This sounds awesome.

Yeah, I'd be down for this whatever the rules happened to be. You would need to account for the fact that your fellow adventurer companions would die stupidly and often, though.

Hylas, I think you just turned it to eleven.

Well dfhack has an adv bodyswap feature that allow the player to switch between companions.

Really?  Does it work?

Another idea: use Fortress Mode somehow to create "lairs" for adv characters.  Is that feasible?  My biggest questions are: if you establish a fort, abandon, start an adventurer, find and enter the fort, retire, jump back to fort mode and reclaim... will your adventurer be there?  What will happen?  Will he be friendly?  How will your dwarves react?  How will they react to his undead army?

Probably a good suggestion to use a pocket world (and jack it chock full of civs/sites/beasties?).

As for getting each other killed, I think we will be okay if that happens once or twice (we're okay with about anything if it's humorous), but if it's a real problem then maybe some save scumming makes sense in this context.  We just don't want things to devolve into a redo-fest.

We also thought of the idea of one player being evil and everyone else collaborating to find him and take him down.  Looking in Legends to find where he is would probably not be allowed, but beyond that, we're not entirely sure how (or if) this would work at all.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Asynchronous multiplayer
« on: February 28, 2012, 12:08:55 pm »
I've searched and checked the wiki and found nothing about this, any reason it wouldn't work?

Some friends and I want to try a game where we take turns, each playing our own character, co-op with the others' retired (or "resting awhile") characters.

What I mean is, when it's your turn, you start a new Adv game, resume as your own retired character rather than create a new one, recruit the other players' characters as companions (assuming you can find them in-world), and off you go.  When your turn's up (unsure yet how that's decided), you retire out, zip the save and pass it off.  Meanwhile we'd keep each other posted with stories/screens, like a regular fort mode succession game.

Anyone know any reason why this wouldn't work, or would be impractical/unplayable?  Thanks!

"Lazy Newb Pack Plus" or something?

I'm liking the idea of having a Lazy Newb Pack and a Smartie Newb Pack.  (I'm a lazy newb, meself.)
