I noticed someone made a wiki page for this, thanks for that.

I did transfer the videos to youtube before they expired.  Here they are:

I'm off to call my mom about my wiki page. :)

Wow, more involved than I expected.  Thanks for the replies.

How do I change the Labors Full grid to arrange the labors the way the game does?

What do you mean by that?  Arrange them by how the game does?
The labors tab has weirdly rearranged the labors.  So, for instance, woodcrafting is with wood cutting.

Whereas, the roles tab has the old layout that matches the in-game skill groups.

I want to change the labors view to be like the roles view and the in-game skill groups.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Most efficient way to produce bronze? v.4
« on: August 30, 2014, 01:23:27 pm »
A bar of tin and a bar of copper produce 2 bars of bronze.

Smelting cassiterite ore and one of the copper ores produces 8 bars of bronze.

Basically smelting the ore saves time and fuel.  But you'll lose the silver from tetrahedrite if that is your copper ore.

Eggs laid in the first month or so of an embark tend to not hatch.  You can gather the first batch of eggs and the second batch should hatch.

Or what I do is bring turkeys, let them lay eggs, gather the eggs and slaughter the turkeys, then let the peacocks (well, peahens technically) have access to the nest boxes.  Because peacocks rule!

For mati, here's a single layer aquifer using the same technique.

EDIT: replace twitch video with youtube.

Kav was asking me about how I get through aquifers fast and without build cancellations.  So I finally decided to make a video of my method.

http://youtu.be/_ewHfJw9HCw

Sorry about all the breathing noises.  I really should have had push-to-talk on.

To summarize, I use a two wide pump stack.  Pumping out of the hole into another hole in the aquifer.  Dig up/down stairs below up/down stairs to drain the aquifers down.  And then use a floor hatch to get through the last layer of aquifer and dig a drain underneath.

In the video, I dig through 7 layers of aquifer in about 10 weeks with the starting 7 dwarfs.

EDIT: Replace the twitch video with the youtube video
And here's the one for the single layer
http://youtu.be/vOR8fG4fhX8

And thanks again to the people who did the wiki page and the breakdowns of the method.  Saved me a ton of work.

I still raise hundreds of birds to make bone/leather armor for everyone even though I know it impacts fps and I could just order leather from the merchants.

I must pierce an aquifer every game.  If I somehow accidentally hit stone without getting wet, I go back up and move over to try again.

Oh, and the only trade good I make is jewel encrusted mechanisms.

Oh mog juice, you sassy bitch. I never did make any. It's still on my things to do before I die list. Along with war jabbered army.

I did learn a lot about animal trapping.  The piece missing is a way to automatically empty animal traps. Writing a script for that is also on my to do list.

Clothing needs to be recyclable, like melting, but for clothes.

But otherwise, woo!

I finally gave Fortress mode a go with the new update (0.40.03 now), and I already had an issue (a small one) 5 minutes in: my animal trainer managed to train a few war and hunting dogs but there's still one normal stray dog that wasn't able to be trained for some reason as I get spammed with "Ranger cancels animal training: no creature.".

I'm curious to know if that issue is common with you guys, have any of you experienced it?
Every damn fort.
