Dear Urist McJewelcrafter,
While I am happy you are doing some masterwork gem encrusting, please stop doing it to the mechanisms and buckets. There is a statue stockpile right next to you.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: Your most SCREWED Survivors...

Right foot gone, lower left leg gone, left hand gone, all fingers on right hand broken, right arm cut and bleeding, trailing guts, punctured lung, cut arteries in the chest and neck, fractured skull.

That guy somehow survived, ended up dying of thirst in the hospital about a year later.

Although my favorite, though not too extensive injury, was a guard captain who lost an arm to a cave ogre, and after the fight took it to the refuse pile then continued his training exercise. The guy went on to kill 2 forgotten beasts and a hydra, I guess nobody told him it was his arm he found.

a volcano bordering a necromancer tower. Zombies to the north of me, goblin sieges from the south. Breaching the caverns made it worse, so many forgotten beasts.

I had a nice terrace on the side of a mountain with a statue garden all the nobles congregated at. Somehow a were-gecko got up there and killed 17 of them before being chased off. Now I have a combination of a tantrum spiral and were-gecko outbreak.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Aquifer troubles
« on: August 23, 2012, 06:59:08 pm »
So I genned a new world that seems to be almost entirely covered in aquifers. The only place I found that didn't have an aquifer was haunted, so not wanting to deal with that, I just embarked on a nice looking spot and planned to use the plug method to breach it.

This is where I hit a snag. Every time I try to drop a plug into the aquifer, the section I cave in magically transforms into the aquifer levels soil type, and becomes an aquifer as well. So far I have tried a dozen times, on different embarks, and each time the same thing happens. Anyone have any tips on how to breach the aquifer that doesn't rely on cave ins?

Clearing out the caverns, the place is infested with blind cave ogres. Only interesting thing that happened was my militia captain getting his left arm bitten off mid fight. Finished killing two ogres, took his arm up to the refuse pile, then went to the hospital to get his broken foot looked at. I was about to remove him from the military when I saw him watching a demonstration in the barracks. I guess he really likes his job.
