Ok, tomahawks don't sever hydra heads, now I should be good to kill them with 8 throwing skill + Heroism if I need it. Now hopefully the part about his ammo and equipment gifts being on separate timers is true. If I run into the Swamp I'll put a little more into throwing, since I don't want to be using Heroism every fight there.

I remember hearing that, at least.
Am not totally sure.
It's from the wiki, which may not be as sure as diving in the source, but here it is :
Quote
It begins the turn you receive a gift, and decreases every time you gain piety (this piety is only applied toward ending the gift timeout)
I read that as "piety goes in your gift timer instead of real piety stack", which means you "lose" piety each time you get a gift (because you'll miss some piety to feed the timer).

On the other hand, even with low skill, tomahawk and Javelins are good, especially when branded :)
Well I was actually hoping he would gift me a flaming axe of some sort for the hydras I keep running into, but the Javelins he's given me may be useful for that, though I do think I will have to invest a little more than I'd like into Throwing. Do tomahawks sever hydra heads?

Str increases damage, slightly increases accuracy, and slightly reduces the penalties to casting, stealth, and EV for armor.

Dex increases accuracy and EV, while slightly increasing stealth, damage, and the chance you'll deal aux. attacks (like headbutting with horns etc.).

Dex is always better for a lighter armored melee char, while I think Str slightly edges out Dex if you're wearing Plate or heavier. Int is better than both if you're ever going to cast. If you're looking at it purely in terms of what to spend your 3rd level stat upgrades on, it's almost irrelevant. The difference between ~6 Dex and ~6 Str (how much you'll get if you live until XL18) is not noticeable. If you start stacking stats with gear, you might notice.
Well, Str it is then, because I plan on wearing heavy armor for the extended endgame. Also I regret choosing gladiator instead of fighter, because Okawaru seems to love giving me javelins and tomahawks I don't want to use.

Not sure if this has been addressed before, but what exactly does Strength and Dexterity do? Because I'm always confused about what exactly to get on non-caster/assassin characters. Asking because I have a MiGl with a vamp executioner axe.

Aw man, am I the only one who messed up not once, but twice in the last two days? Good. Congratulations, everyone! I had never played in a tournament before,  this was surprisingly fun, even with the horrible latency I get on the webtiles servers. Feels fun knowing your win is contributing to a team :) Also made me try a lot of things I probably wouldn't, seeing what was most popular and what other people were playing.

When's the next tourney, anyway? I kind of want to do this again  :D
I THINK it's some time next year. I can't do this again anytime soon, because the only game I played this month was dungeon crawl. Right now my sanity is about to plunge into a state long past repair. Not really. But seriously though, I need a break. I do look forward to next year though.

Woot, got one last win off with an ogre hunter.   :D That Zot 5 was really stupid. After I picked up the orb, so many nasty things spawned. Two orbs of fire, an ancient lich, a bunch of draconians, and a few hellhounds to keep me preoccupied. I got down to 20ish health just on that floor and had to quaff all my healing potions. Probably could've done more than 3 runes, but whatever. Cheers for the end of the tourney.

Yeah great job Gravenous and TheSomberlain. Jeanjacques just watched your KoBe die in Snake on FooTV, sad death.

Well, the footie is about to start, time I got my feeble Tengu ass to the bottom of Shoals
Well, that was embarrassing. Given how I died I mean. I read that tele scroll and didn't realize constriction was screwing it over. YASD and all that. I can imagine jeanjacques shaking his head at that.

Also... who's The Somberlain in this thread?
I'm the Somberlain. Anyway, the tournament is winding down, so I'm gonna try to win another game, but if it comes down to where I have to start a new character and win within something like 12-13 hours, I'll be done with the tournament.

Well, I won my first game in the tournament. Shamefully, it was in my opinion the easiest combo in the game. It was the almighty MiFi, but I got 5 runes and worshipped Jiyva for lols, so it was all good.

Err, this may be a completely noob question, but how do you get your followers to pick up items as an orc priest. I heard it's ctrl-t, but on the web browser it just opens up another tab. How do I get it to work without opening another tab?

VICTORY AT LAST! :D Stylishly wielding a banana before exiting the dungeon, my VpEn has won a three rune victory. Thanks for Sandman for dropping in during the final orb run! I got down to 8 HP to a point thanks to a random brimstone fiend who thinks it's hilarious to throw hellfire at frantically escaping vampires. :P That was really darn close.

Some random notes for this playthrough:
- Simulacrum spam with Kiku is actually surprisingly powerful. I did this in Vaults:5 and Zot:5, and since the corpses you get there (stone giants, dragons etc) usually yield 4~8 chunks it's easy to quickly raise a group of around 20 very hard hitting units. And since they're undead they still fight normally outside of LOS. It's capable of taking down Orbs of Fire without too much trouble, but you do need to recharge after each fight to replenish the casualties.

- Speaking of Vaults, Vaults in 0.12 is a bloody deathtrap. Seriously what the hell. :P Those new enemies who mark you and recall enemies are absolutely evil. Vaults is now a lot tougher for invi-stabbers. I might have to do it much later than I used to before in 0.11.

- I actually killed Nikola by catching him in a throwing net and then stabbing him. That was pretty funny.

---

So yeah, probably gonna take a short break. Haven't decided on my next character, probably a transmuter or something.
Congrats on the victory. First win for the Bay12 Procrastinators.  :D

If it's lagging don't press any key that is a command.  Just hit something like esc until you get the unrecognized command message.
I unfortunately forgot that while I thought my *FLY* status was still fresh. It wasn't. Derped there, and cost me a potential 15-runer.

Well, I died because I drowned in Cocytus, the game lagged while I was flying and I pressed too many keys on accident. Damn. And I was hoping for a 15 runer on him too.

I got the iron rune, I need to clear out the other 3 hell branches, Pandemonium and the tomb now. Good cold resistance items have been pretty sparse, which kinda sucks. I also unfortunately got the digest meat ineffectively mutation, and I think I also got my +1 Dex mutation removed too. Either going to Tartarus or Gehenna next.

Going with triple sword then, for the extended endgame. Had a weird dream last night that I beat the game with this character, but only got the pandemonium runes because I FORGOT to do the abyss, hell and the slime pits.
