DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Artifact Transport Troubles

Just to preface: this is my first time playing DF in a while, so I may be overlooking some really easy solution.

One of my dwarves created an adamantine amulet artifact, and I thought it would be fun to make a really elaborate treasure room. Obviously this requires moving the artifact from the workshop it was built in- which is where I run into trouble. The dwarves just aren't touching it, and the item isn't forbidden.

I'm not allowed to dump the artifact.
I've tried making all kinds of stockpiles, mostly finished goods specific to "amulets," "adamantine," and quality levels. Even making a general finished goods stockpile doesn't result in anything.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Escaping The Necromancers' Tower?

So I generate a new world, hoping for a Necro Tower to assault and to become a necromancer for the first time. I get my wish and waltz in to the tower, smashing my way to the top and defeating all the necromancers and zombie hordes without a scratch (my companions, however, were not so lucky). After learning the secrets of life and death and raising a few zombies, I find that I cannot descend any floors. The staircase to my right leads up, and I can traverse up and down that one with no problem, but I just can't go down the staircase that leads out of the tower. The only odd thing that I've noticed is that it appears to have not only a floor hatch but also a hatch cover.

Any help?

Decided to start on the canal today, found a relatively small isthmus (16 or so region tiles). Not long into the mining process, lost two dwarves to a cave-in. A third just went insane from misery.

This is Dwarf Fortress though, so this is to be expected. I guess that means things are running smoothly.

Hello Bay12 forum community! This is my first post and I was hoping to get input on some giant projects I was hoping to do. All of the projects would hopefully affect the world in a kinda-big way.

Trans-Continental Canal- Imagine the Panama Canal, but 100 times bigger.
Trans-Continental Railroad- Minecart track stretching across the world.
Hoover Dam- Find the biggest river in the world, and dam it near the source.

Any other ideas and advice would be appreciated. I hope to start soon and post my progress.
