DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Re: How did your fortress die?
« on: December 13, 2012, 11:13:50 am »
I learned the hard way why you should get rid of Titan corpses, i had just finally managed to kill an fire breathing Titan that could fly when an necromancer and his army showed up. Now i wasn't to worried since my fort was built on a two wall basis, that is to say i had an outer wall (where the trade depot and outdoor related workshops were placed) and an inner wall where the entrence to the underground fort were. In other words, i just laughed and retreated with what remained of my army behind the inner walls since the outer wall was in ruins.

So the zombies swarm around the inner walls, uselessly clawing at it while my crossbow men get some target practicing in, while the necromancer goes around raising what few bodies he can for his army.... That's when i remember the Titan. So sure enough, he resurects the Titan who is now both undead and seriously pissed! I can't remember the exact words i said, but i am pretty sure they were along the lines of "Oh ****...."

I have ended up in a situation that.. It is just plain wrong on so many different levels! I have an kobold adventurer that uses an bow as his primary weapon and i am currently doing my first mission that is to kill an night troll (or "Vile Brute" as he is described as) and he just won't die! He should be dead, by all accounts, since almost all his internal organs are either destroyed or badly wounded and he got an entire gang of kobolds who are kicking the shit out of him but he just keeps crawling around on the ground! I mean, i put an cooper bolt straight through his head and he is still alive!  :o

Edit: Scratch that, shortly after my last message he finally died. Cause of death: Blood loss.. Are all Night Trolls that hard to kill? Oo

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Re: Water management

1. Grab 2 bags of berries from a human house
2. Empty one of the bags
3. Fill the empty bag with water (holds 50 water)
4. Don't worry about water or food for a while
Yeah this is what i usually do, i always keep at least two bags filled with water on me at all times after i lost one of my first adventures due to dehydration. Of course, you could always also become an vampire and never have to worry about food or water again. But of course, then you will always have to worry about finding a living creature to feed on which is harder than it sounds.

I am currently trying out adventuring with an Kobold character.

My first one got killed by an carp when he went fishing.

My second one got some really nasty disease due to evil rain and died of dehydration due to throwing up all the time.

My third one got his head punched off by an vampire.

I am currently on my fourth one and so far it is going pretty good, i recruited some fellow kobolds and i am now off to kill an minotaur! Wish me luck! :D

I once tried to tackle a tower head on, you know with a lot of meatshields companions and a lot of guts... It didn't work..

So instead i led the undead on a merry chase through the nearby woods and lit things on fire left and right. It actually worked pretty well and the entire bottom floor of the tower was empty afterwards. The problem was that the necromancers had been pretty busy and filled up the entire tower with undeads so when i went up to the second floor i got swarmed and ended up being chocked to death by my own decapiteded arm.

So yeah, i would suggest you become a night creature before you try to tackle a tower. :)

*unlurk*

My latest adventure is by far the most awesome i have ever had. I generated a world that was about 80-90% evil and created an character named Gaston Skullbreaker, now my plan was for Gaston to become an necromancer and basicly become that worlds anti-christ. What happened was something completely different.

You see, there was no necromancers in that world so i thought "Well, that sucks. Let's do some quests".

Fastforward a little and Gaston (now named "Gaston Skullbreaker the Exalted Scenario of Bars") is now an legendary hero in several towns after slaying an titan, several night creatures, minotaurs etc and has drank vampire blood to forever be able to fight the evils of this world. So yeah, i had a good time with that guy. :)
