My legendary spear militia outfitted in mostly training gear ran into a goblin spear-man ambush. Now my legendary spear militia is outfitted in metal gear.

Best part was when the ambush saw 2 teammates get slaughtered, turned and ran across the entrance bridge. Lever pulled followed by broken bones and an easy mop up of the survivors. Unfortunately I think one goblin made it across the bridge before it disappeared.

No-one else has this skill, all my dwarves are part of the starting dwarves and all started with 0 skills.

The reports for him was only 2 pages long but a throw may have been deleted due to the other 10-15 dwarves mostly using training spears and spamming 30-70 pages of ineffective attacks against unconscious goblins.

Okay so my dwarf just created an artifact earring. When I checked the artifacts I noticed that the previously made amulet actually had an image of the, at the time not created, artifact earring on it. What the heck? Have my dwarves invented time travel or something?

I love how if you go into the child's thoughts and preferences it has something about being happy from being freed.

Just lured a small goblin crossbowman ambush across my bridge using a mechanic.

Don't you just love when a lever throw is timed perfectly to make the ground disappear from beneath the feet of enemies, shortly followed by lots of broken bones and easy targets. Of course the mechanic isn't doing so well with the bolts sticking out of him.

The Spearmaster bites the Kobold Thief in the head, tearing the muscle, shattering the skull and bruising the brain!

Guess he was in a hurry to get that Kea he was chasing.

I never had prisoner eat, even when they were sitting on top of the food. This is why I tend to release them early, if I even set a jail up.

Anyone care to explain why its passing through rather than glancing away?

I did find it quite entertaining when one hit its head and stunned it. I then proceeded to shop its head off.

Quick run away before the shopping starts and we lose our heads!

When ever I am working with anything below the top level I use Diagonals. While it will slow the movement of the water or magma, it will ensure that it cannot rise.

Mudstone is not usable as farmland. You need Muddy stone, to do this you need to cover stone in water.

Is there a way though of tell when an animal is fully grown besides noting when each batch was born and caging them accordingly?

This is one of the reason I tend to stick clear of an animal industry, well that and the fact that migrants normally bring big annoyingly hard to feed animals that will feed everyone for a few seasons.

OP: Absolutely. At my very first fortress, I embarked next to a were-deer's lair, who was a kobold in "civil life". He immediately transformed, so the first thing I saw was the warning message right after the "strike the earth!" screen. Unpuased the game... he rushed against my starting seven, killed somebody, then escaped back to his stinkhole after transforming back. I've had no idea what was happening so it was really confusing for the first DF play experience. :D

It lowers the room value. Having a communal dinning room has the added benefit of absurdly high room value which equals high mood bonus from eating there.
