Roll To Dodge / Odyssey - Team Based Space Exploration RTD [6/6]
« on: February 26, 2019, 04:49:51 pm »

Hello. Welcome to my newest full-effort RTD, Odyssey. The six of you may have been brought here by different circumstance, but you all have the same goal: explore the universe and get rich selling coordinates of lush worlds to various colonial empires and megacorporations... or die horribly trying to do so. Be wary. Although there are many hazards in this universe, perhaps most insidious of all is your own crew. After all, when fortune is on the line, who can say how they'd really behave?

Mechanics-wise, everything'll mostly be standard RTD. Having a knack for whatever it is you're attempting makes it less likely for you to horrendously fail.

Super simple stuff. Just wanted to do something ultra-minimalist rather than nothing at all. As the title says I don't plan on character limits because longevity nor organization are a concern here.

Life Advice / Crippling fear of death
« on: July 02, 2018, 08:19:30 pm »
So within the past year, I've become overly concerned with my own mortality. I've never been spiritual(it just isn't my thing. I can't force myself to believe)but I've never really had much of a problem with death until lately. It's not like the 'usual' fear of death, either, it's crippling and comes at highly inopportune times. It doesn't matter what I am doing; if I'm enjoying a movie, walking around the block, trying to sleep, playing one of my favorite games or writing, I'll suddenly be overcome with the reminder that some day I'll never be able to do any of this again. In fact, it's gotten so bad that I nearly cancelled a maxillofacial surgery(and a very important one at that) out of fear of dying while under anesthesia.

I've heard the usual stuff and it doesn't help. Atheists/agnostics tell me "Don't worry, you won't know you're dead", and that makes me panic even more. Religious folk try to evangelize me, or remind me that there IS somewhere for me to go after I die, but I can't force myself to believe. I don't normally post on this section of the forum(I'm more of a lurker here than anything)but I'm getting pretty desperate. Hell, even the concept of becoming comfortable with my mortality is a little unsettling.

Any advice/comments/questions?

Alright, so to start I'm going to skip past the greetings and pleasantries. Those of you who know me know me, those of you who don't soon will.

Here's the basic concept:

You are a member of a rather motley team of assassins, thieves and generally unsavory people. You work for a mega-corporation that gets most of it's income through off-the-record business, usually shady shit like kidnapping and contract killing. The game will be played in missions, so the primary objective will change every now and then. Some of your characters will be more suited to certain situations than others. If you're worried about technology/magic lining up in this setting, don't be. Things won't make much sense sometimes, but this is more so about fun and telling a decent story than rules for me.

Health is everyone's favorite- chunky salsa. For the uninitiated, that means wounds don't really work on a 'number' system. Injuries are more narrative and specific than just "lose 3 health" and as such, expect to wind up crippled long before you end up succumbing to your wounds. Other then that, everything is standard RTD.

Now onto characters. I quite like the system I used for my now-defunct "Labyrinth", and so I've decided to use it again.

Roll To Dodge / Roll To Heresy: A Minimalist RTD About Cults [DEFUNCT]
« on: March 31, 2017, 10:33:22 pm »
The Age of Apostasy is upon us. The world has forgotten its gods and masters. Humans are a weak creature without Covenants, doomed to insignificance and meaningless lives of restraint and illusory order. You have been chosen to preach this message- to spread it far and wide, so that the meek creatures that call themselves Human are reminded of their place in the Cosmos. The Old Gods will have their spoils once more.

Roll To Dodge / Abandoned Project.
« on: January 22, 2017, 07:45:59 pm »
You're not sure where you are. What you are sure of, is that it is dark. And cold. Very, very cold.
After feeling around a bit and finding nothing but the ground below you, a loud clicking noise is heard from above that reverberates as though you are in an enormous chamber full of nothing.
Moments later, you find everything is well lit. You seem to be in some sort of urbanized city, except two things are very off. Firstly, although you can not identify the source of illumination, there is very clearly no star or clouds in what appears to be a blue sky above you. Second, there's nobody else here. No cars, no animals, nothing.
It is chillingly quiet for what appears to be meant as a settlement.

Welcome... to the Labyrinth.

There will also be a Discord server for general discussion on the game and inquiries about mechanics.

Also, this is going to be a (relatively) fast-paced sort of thing, as far as RTDs go. 32 hours to post an action before we skip your turn and possibly stasis/waitlist swap you.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Mallos' Microscope Steam Group!
« on: January 18, 2015, 01:50:09 pm »
So I heard you like RPGs here at Forum Games & Roleplaying.
Maybe you'll try this one out with me,it's called 'Microscope'.

What is Microscope?

Microscope is a RPG that is unique for a few reasons, namely one of them being there is no GM.
Instead, all players cooperate to create the backdrop of the story,or the 'big picture' as the rulebook calls it. But from then on,they are against eachother, having to add events and focuses, but perhaps the most interesting part is the pallette. This is where you can add or ban things from being used in telling the story, like allowing steampunk tech in a Star Trek like universe or banning dwarves(!) from being used in a story about the collapse of a fantasy kingdom.

The playing schedule is still up in the air. I have school on weeknights so we'll probably do it some time on the weekend. If you're in,let me know.
Just in case anyone is wondering,my timezone is Central Standard Time, which may become important if some of you A)live 'across the pond' B)So we can negotiate on a time to play on the weekends.

But yeah, that's pretty much it. Any questions just post them here.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Anyone up for PBEM Blood Bowl?
« on: December 25, 2014, 06:54:07 pm »
We'll be using the MBBL2 rules along with a couple of extra teams and house rules I could find on the depths of the internet.
Whether or not it has to be a league,I don't know. If I get enough volunteers we could do a small league, but I might need a co-organizer. Any volunteers?

If you know what Blood Bowl is and are at least semi-experienced with it's rules, please PM me or post and I'll make you a league co-organizer,but that doesn't mean you can't be a player too(if you want). I'm certainly going to have a team or two in this league.

Any questions or comments, then please post.

You awake in darkness,or at least what you think is darkness. Either way,you can't see.
Suddenly,a single torch lights. And then another, shortly thereafter followed by two more, then three more and so on.
You see that you are in a spacious room. It appears empty at first. Then,in front of you materializes a desk with a large colorless grimoire.
You were wearing shackles, but now they're gone. You are also wearing some kind of colorless robe.
I keep saying they're colorless, but they won't be for long.
(By the way,you are each in a room like this.)

What color are your robes and grimoires?

Further space on this post reserved for people's spellbook pages and spells, and the like.

General Discussion / Alternate History General Thread
« on: September 21, 2014, 07:18:22 pm »
I'm not sure whether this is here, was here,or isn't here already, but I'm making it anyway.
So recently history has interested me a lot more than it usually has,I've been exploring ways of simulating alternate history as well, such as certain games.
Examples include Europa Universalis,Crusader Kings, and the rest of the Paradox Development Studios games,or at least the ones that have options for non-historical gameplay.

So come as you are and discuss alternate history in general, debating scenarios and possible events as you wish. Just remember that the Bay12 forum rules still apply and, like always, have fun debating and sharing your alternate history timelines/stories.

If you want to write an alternate history timeline, you should be familiar with the implications of the subject and if not willing to do research into the subject and others.
So,without further ado,let's start!  ;)

Oh,and any questions just ask.

Roll To Dodge / Nexus Deathmatch
« on: August 17, 2014, 07:24:39 pm »
I know this isn't the most original of ideas but I figured I could run two RTDs at once as my other one isn't anything too major as of right now,so I'm running a minimalist deathmatch.

This uses the chunky salsa system,as I adore it and my hat is off to whoever made it.
Basically what that means is you can die of bleeding out and targeted damage is a thing.
State your target and how you wish to wound them, and I will roll.
First come first serve turns,so if only two people post actions and I feel like updating then that's just how it goes, maaaan.

Also, you start in the arena with nothing but your orange jumpsuits(Because you were caught by Space/Time Police and thrown into an arena to fight to the death for ETERNITY!)
Yeah that's pretty much my story, but you'll find equipment and traps and all sorts of stuff in the different arenas across space and time.

Since this is minimalist, your character sheet is literally two things.
Name and gender.

At 3 people we will start the carnage.

Roll To Dodge / Roll To Traitor
« on: August 16, 2014, 09:13:42 pm »
So basically this is a Space Station 13 RTD.

I don't like beating around the bush,so here we go;

edit:shit i accidentally posted,hold on

The first thing you do is pick a job. Depending on it's availability,I may let you have it,have you roll to see if you can have it etc etc.

Spoiler: Jobs/Occupations (click to show/hide)

Every round I will message someone letting them know they are the traitor. The could be a syndicate,a changeling,a wizard, part of a Nuclear Agent Team or they could be one of many Spies. Maybe even a Vampire. Sometimes there will be more than one traitor.

NOTE:EVEN IF YOU KNOW THEY ARE A TRAITOR THROUGH THEIR ACTIONS,UNLESS YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE IT IN CHARACTER,YOU DO NOT KNOW. You may, however be suspicious of people and have every right to do so. This does not apply if it is obvious, like if they are a changeling in horror form or a wizard or nuclear agent in their armor.

Since a proper game of SS13 requires more than about 4-5 people(my best guess at how many will sign up for this) I will be all the jobs that are not taken.

Standard RTD rules apply. 1 is crit fail,2 is fail,3 is reroll,4 is partial success,5 is success and 6 is overshot.

As of writing this I haven't slept in a day,so gimme a break please.

Pretty much just pull your character selections from roguelikes, and if you've never played one then pull some stats from a wiki and slap em on a makeshift character sheet.

Yeah. So,once we have four people I'll start.

15
This is canon,so don't expect a GREEEAAAAT game.

So until my Pathfinder game starts, have a d20 based arena fighting game with my favorite elements of all, bloody combat and permadeath.

Your character sheet must consist of equipment,no godly stuff (McBadass,I'm looking at you :P) and you may have three things that are special abilities or things you specialize in.

Spoiler: Example Characters (click to show/hide)

Upon character submission you are immediately dropped into the arena and expected to fight.
You shall do everything The Enforcer says or suffer the consequences.

Those are the rules, and don't forget to scream BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD at the top of your lungs while dismembering your foes.
