DF Modding / Total Creature Replacement

So im kinda wanting to create my own creatures for this world, and would like to know, if anything, do I absolutely need in the world so it functions right. All the times everything else is safe, though I cleared the Entity folder, and the languages folders.

I will also take creature ideas, and stuff, but stuff, but I don't want anything that we would see on Earth. I want to make a different kind of earth.

DF Modding / Way to make species cold Tolerant?

Is their a way to make a species more advantaged into a super cold biome. I looked at the raws of multiple creatures, and found it hard to believe they could survive with the same homotherm as humans in the glacier and tundras. What makes them able to survive there, and what can I do to make my sentient people thrive up in the extremes of the world.

Wisho Warmthlancer, Human from The Lost Nation.

On the 15th of Granite in the year 78, I traveled from the human town of Divinesteemed to the small hamlet of trickgrove. I stayed the night.

Granite 16, 78; Got ambushed by a lone pikeman. I slayed him in a short battle of 30 seconds. His name was Kafâsh Walledcouples. Reached Webbedbushes that night.

Granite 17, 78; Founded the small lakeside camp of Lakehome. I built a small wooden shelter.

Granite 18, 78; Was attacked by a night creature, the dark freak wrestler. Killed the lord Gisep Shimmerguilds. I survived only by running from the beast. That morning went back to find many dead bodies. A few survived but most were dead. I left town to go back to Waterhome. Worked on it some, and then headed back to Webbedbushes.

Granite 19, 78; Not much happened, other then failing to kill a Hippo. Worked a little more on my house.

Granite 20, 78; I got some more food, about to head when something comes to my attention in the distance. I go towards it to investigate.

Wisho was found that morning dead. His head caved in, and that is why you never try fighting a mortally wounded Night Creature, because they can still get a lucky shot in, and kill your ass.

DF General Discussion / My saves are not working

I play on a Ubuntu OS, and well I had to turn off my computer. I rarely keep maps for more then a day, and well, I wanted to keep this one, and well, I went to the saves to do more for my story, and well, it shows no evidence that I had a save anymore. I checked the file, and it was all still there, but the game did not recognize it. I took the file out of the save folder, and then started the game, and then placed it back in. Still doesn't show up. I have two modded creatures in the game, but they don't have error messages to them, and are in their own separate folder. If someone can help, it would greatly be appreciated. I also run the game from my terminal if that is another problem maybe, and I play the newest release.

NOTE: I did play it last night, and today, not just made it today. I do not remember how I got out of the game, but I did save inside the Mead Hall, and  I did see a bug about it on mantisreport or whatever they call it saying the game crashed if you saving inside buildings.

DF Suggestions / Burying things in Adventure Mode

One of the major things that irks me in Adventure mode is the fact that you can't bury dead people you kill, in either to hide the evidence or to give a peasant who died while you were robbing them a respectable burial. You should be able to dig a small hole, and kick the poor fellow into the hole, and then bury them. You should also be able to carve memorials or even just put a stick in place with who ever the guy was, if you even want to remember his name. This could also be a way, in if you have a shortage of coffins, or a bunch of peasants who died, can be buried in the ground directly.

The clear blue sky gave way to brilliant colors lf violet, and a slash of orange gave the sky a whimsical look, one would only believe could be made in a Hollywood studio.  I can't imagine how the sky could be so brilliant.  In the valley where I lived, life was so lonely, but this place did have it ups, with the mountains giving way to a small river, it was the most amazing place.  The best thing too, I owned the entire valley, a place made by God, and maybe God's greatest masterpiece.

As night came, I picked up my favorite book, Project 10, and went into the bedroom, my bed was comfy, it made me almost fall asleep right when I got on it.  I soon started to read.  I was on page 80, and we just learn that a great floodhas just happened because the machine has failed.  After reading about 20 more pages, my yawning was taking over, and I thought that it was time to sleep.  I turned out the light, and started to go to sleep, the night.

I woke at 10 a.m, a overcast of clouds was blocking the Sun.  I liked the rain, and I knew it was going to be a big storm.  I could hear thunder in the distance, and I could hear the sound of rain hit the ground outside my home.  I knew this was going be one hell of a storm.  I soon went in, and fliped on the T.V.  I knew a story on it would be coming soon.

The storm was still over the valley.This was crazy I thought.  It has never rained this long here.  The small river at the bottom of the valley was now a massive river.  I was glad that my house was on a hill a few hundreds yards from the river.  I was glad of that in fact, or right now my house could be in the Snake River by now!  My electricity held.  Thank God for underground powerlines.  The television was now only static, my dish was knocked out.

Day two of this storm.  Why is it still going, no storm has lasted this long, the bottom of the valley eas now a small lake, and was rising fast.  I had to move all my valuable items to the small cellene near the top of the small mountain.  My house was about to be flooded.  I just wish this would end.  This was not normal at all.  I could see from the cellar, that the Snake River valley was flooded.  This was like the great deluge of Noah, this was the end of mankind.

The night, so devilish in it's appearence, so lovely in it's grandeur of evil.  The night gives me the strength, the strength to do my deeds.  These deeds, not like most, have to be done, for my evil must exist, for if we did not, your miserable lives would have no meaning, for what is life without fear of death, and pain.  So here I am, my evil even is of something that my own self can't believe that this is necessary, but I have no choice, my soul has been sold, my mind controlled, my self a vessel for evil.  For my job is to be a child of the night, the prince of darkness, so help me God, for my life is damned. For no one can save me now.
       I looked at the small well, how could I have been so stupid not to bring the bucket up.  Miss Hander would kill me if she found this out.  As I ran to pull up the bucket, I heard in the distance a loud yell.  It was Miss Hander, I could barely understand it but it sounded like she needed my help.  I let the bucket drop down the well, and I ran to the old cottage.  I saw the door was open, I could hear Miss Hander humming a tune.  I ran inside, and saw her making some Dariage.  I went over to her, and said,"You called, milady"  She turned around, her appron soiled with brown greese spots.  "Here take these to Jakeri as fast as you can, and after that, go to the barn, and fix that bustes door" She ordered me as she gave me the dariages.  As I hurried off I could hear her yell "Hurry back before night, it is not safe!"  I knew this already, but why after hearinf that same thing a hundred times, that it now have a meaning.  I soon saw Jakeri's house.  The sun now setting.

Creative Projects / The Chase

        So, as it may seem, death has finally found me, in this small hole, the monster waits outside.  His glowing eyes are haunting my mind.  His heavy breath penetrates my soul, making me feel as thou death is right there.  The beast is waiting for me in a game he knows he will not lose.  As I lay here now, the beast now is ready to eat, his patience now was little.  His hunger was growing, for I could feel his anger, his satisfaction not quenched.  I knew he was ready to finish this
         As I woke up, the sun barely filtered in the room, I wasn't sure what time it was, but as I looked out the small hole, I could see the beast sleeping, the sun high in the sky.  I knew he was awake, but I could get a head start, another day lf endless running, for the goal that may, or may not be clear to anyone but me.  But to me, its a chance to live another day, another moment of life, so precious to us all.  I just need that start.  As I thought this, I brought my self outside, and the next running.  The forest was quiet, but then came the roar.......

Should I continue, or no?

DF Suggestions / A New Nightcreature your adventurer can be come.

This would be a very hard Nightcreature to turn into, but it would be fun since you would be basicly invincible from being killed.  You would be invincible to all but otger nightbeasts, and some demons.  You would also be able to weild wepons, and armour.  You would also be able to go through walls but not solid rock, and to be able to not be killed except only by silver.
The only way you could become one would have to die by being killed by another ghost.  Making this very hard to become at the moment.  Thou with the some talk of haunted houses this might become a easy to do possiblity.  This would give you the advantage of not dieing almost never, and the ablity to fly.  Also if you die as a ghost, you will drop ectoplasm.  No use as I can think for yet, but maybe a good ingredient for the soon to be added alchemy profession.

On a very recent try at adventure mode, I was in a scorching biome, and out of nowhere I just started to melt, without no warning or even a sign I was close to melting.  I am suggesting that a thing on the charaters status page show if the charater is about to over heat or not.

Here is an example of what it could say and look like:
