DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Coincidences.

Have you ever seen any?

For example, I titled my fort leader/bookkeeper/ect. Overlord as a joke.

Then I find out he's a worshipper of Zulban, the dwarven god of thralldom.

Sorry for any annoyance this might cause, but I have multiple questions and seemingly no answer for them.

1: How do you start your character off as a wizards apprentice or a soldier or anywhere but in the wilderness? And if you can't how do you find a town without traveling forever?

2: How do you talk to people?

Those are my worst problems.

If someone answers and is willing to check back later I will ask more questions.

If there is a guide (other than the manual or ingame help) feel free to point me there.
