DF Modding / Dwarf companion 2, you should really use runesmith !

Not much for now, only let you watch some creature stats. I'd like people to test it so that I get a clue on how you should distribute windows binaries :

Run the file called "companion2". If it whines about a bad program configuration, run the microsoft program in the REDIST directory. It contains the C runtime that couldn't be found.

If you want to test it under linux,

git checkout dc

Then follow dfhack build instructions, it should produce the file in the "output" directory.

Update: there seems to be someone working on a tool that's a lot like DC, also based on dfhack. I'll keep on contributing to dfhack when I have time as this is the part I enjoy. Check this http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=59056.0

DF Bug Reports / How to post into the forum

The problem is bay12games.com redirects to 198.170.107.215, and this website has all his links to bay12games.com while the DNS is not yet up to date.

You could solve this by adding to c:\windows\ (or wherever windows lives) \system32\drivers\etc\hosts

the line:

198.170.107.215 www.bay12games.com

(/etc/hosts for unix users)

Would it be possible to add an INIT option for the combat text display in fortress mode? I never suggested it before because I figured it would be of no added value, but several persons are asking for me to support it with dwarf companion in all versions of DF, and it proves to be a bit painful :)

PS: some details on the data structure of wounds would help tremendously too

Here is a screeshot to a prototype "dwarf companion" i'm working on :
screenshot.

What would be useful to print on the "main" page, displayed on the screenshot? (If somebody knows how to retrieve each dwarves current tasks ...) And how would you display it? For example, right now the "wounds" column shows the biggest wound of each character, but a dwarf with all limbs hurt will look the same as a dwarf with a single limb, or organ, hurt.

When looking at the mood inner workings, i found out that a material is here described as four 16bits integers which could be:

item type:item subtype:item material:material id

For example, with -1 meaning "any" afaik:
3:-1:-1:-1 -> gem:any:any:any
0:-1:2:-1 -> bar:any:metal:any
55:-1:-1-1 -> leather:any:any:any

and so on. Is anybody familiar with this way of describing materials? If so, how would it be possible to decode this data and perhaps altering it so that an artifact would be made with choosen items?

In the dev log you can see

DF Suggestions / Hooks in the executable

There are many features (ok, mainly cheats) that people (including me) are trying to add by writing third party utilities. It would be A LOT easier if hooks were provided by the main dwarfort.exe program : would not require reversing, would not require updating all offsets for every versions. Besides, it would not require access to the source code of the program.

Is it against all DF ethics? Is it just a time problem? Or nobody asked?

Ps: what I would love to have is combat statistics from dwarves - damage dealt, members severed, head cuts, kills!
