DF Gameplay Questions / Undead child animals
« on: May 22, 2018, 09:35:46 pm »
Looking for certain answers here guys.

If a child animal (eg. puppy) is resurrected, does it stay in it's child form, or becomes an undead adult?

If it's the former, can an undead creatures reach adult maturity from child stage while undead?

Also, do undead creatures continue to grow in size while undead?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Finding lost artifacts
« on: March 03, 2018, 12:48:42 pm »
I've been to several sites where an artifact is said to be lost - mostly hillocks and mountain halls - but after scouring the area I simply can't find it.

Where exactly do lost artifacts spawn in a site? Do I have to ransack every cabinet, every forge, search every last tile, even the roads and pastures?

v0.44
All Races Playable
Succession World

Spoiler: World Map (click to show/hide)

How to play
Pick a race: goblin, elf, human or dwarf. You get one week to do anything in this world. There are no in-game time limits. Build forts, send out adventurers, raid other player's sites. Anything you want, you can do - as long as you use your own civ/civ members to do it. When the week is up, retire your forts/adventurers, pass on save to next player.

This game uses All Races Playable by Lovechild.

But seriously, is this the same bug? Anyone else having the same issue? I don't normally pay attention to horse numbers, but this does seem like a rather excessive case of ponies.

DF General Discussion / 40.24 ---> 42.06, Save compatibility
« on: February 24, 2016, 02:35:43 am »
The new version has been out for a while now. Based on the wiki banner, saves from 40.24 should be compatible with 42.03 42.06.

For those who have done this, how has the game been so far?
Any major/minor bugs that have occurred?
Noticeable differences after the upgrade?

DF Modding / Special Text Characters
« on: December 19, 2015, 10:47:34 pm »
What are the special text character tricks that I should know in modding strings?

For example, Rise of the Mushroom Kingdom's shyguy language does some really weird things with the language files. I was wondering whether these tricks also extend to the data/speech files as well as general strings within the game like names/prefstring/interactions/reactions.

DF Gameplay Questions / Metal-stringed instruments
« on: December 04, 2015, 08:23:04 am »
I don't know whether it's just me, but currently it seems impossible to create instruments that have been randomly generated to have metal strings. The instrument part does not show up on the crafting screen at all. Considering DF doesn't really have metal threads yet, should instruments even be rolling metal strings in the first place?

Basically, is this a bug?

Silliness and Levity Add Dwarven Enjoyment

Latest version: DF 42.02

For those who have no idea what am I talking about.

SLADE was/is a community mod focusing on the zany, the silly and the absolutely completely ridiculous.
Our aim? To quote the previous OP, it is to make a ramshackle mountain of oddness and wacky. At least while not breaking the game in the process.

All contributions are welcome as long as they fit into the theme of silliness/weirdness this mod has. Always try to see the funny side of things! Even if your modding skills are not up to scratch, why not just drop your ideas off at the thread? Sooner or later, there's bound to be someone out there who'll be able to turn your ideas into reality.

I will compile all the new additions at the end of every month, make some small balance tweaks if needs be (dont worry, I'll ask your permission), and they will then be added to the main mod.

Trundle free across the open plains as a wagon. Build your fortress with masterwork cheese furniture. Dig deep to find ima' firin mah veins. Engineer pan-galactic gargle blasters. Pull a sword out of your dress.

...and other generally weird stuff.

DF Modding / CURIOUSBEAST tags
« on: September 28, 2015, 09:00:02 am »
Why does slapping the CURIOUSBEAST tags (GUZZLER, ITEM and/or EATER) on a creature result in said creature never spawning in Fortress Mode? I'm genuinely baffled, but it does.

I gave every creatures in the raws CURIOUSBEAST tags, hoping it might result in Kleptomaniac Fortress, but all I ended up with was zero wildlife. Legends mode say animal populations are still alright, walking around in adventurer mode confirms this. They only just don't enter the fortress - even CURIOUSBEASTs who previously worked fine don't spawn, such as keas and black bears.

Dug around, but the only thing that appeared relevant was a thread from 2008. Theories, anyone? :(

DF General Discussion / Dwarven Archeology (we want your saves!)
« on: July 13, 2015, 03:11:32 am »
So this idea was floated around on the DF subreddit some time back, but it never really caught on.  Which is a shame because I really liked the idea of exploring abandoned fortresses, so I'm trying it again here to see whether it gets more interest on the forums.

What is Dwarven Archeology?

Dwarven Archeology is the exploring of player fortresses in adventure mode. Playthroughs are usually 'blind', without referring to DF or Legends Mode.  These fortress saves can be contributed by any player who wishes to have their fortress explored by others :).

What can I do?
  • Donate us your saves.  We need fortresses to explore, the older and more complex the better.  Of course, we still gladly accept bloodsoaked holes-in-the-ground if you have 'em.
  • Explore fortresses.  Just pick a save, and get exploring!  Archaeologists are encouraged to document their discoveries in any format they choose.  You could do a narrative, comic, journal... well anything you can think of.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Why don't dragons fly?
« on: July 10, 2015, 12:07:30 pm »
I mean is there a particular coding reason Toady doesn't give them flight?

Lets face it, dragons are pretty underwhelming right now - dragonfire is easily blocked by any shields, and they very rarely reach their max size during worldgen.  Dies after a couple of whacks by military, or a cage trap, or a weapon trap, or a stone trap. Granted, most of the semi-megabeasts suffer from being underpowered meat sacks, but this is a DRAGON.  They're supposed to be majestic, winged, fearsome creatures, not undersized lizards plastered to the ground.

Giving it flight, my god, would make it absolutely terrifying.  Dwarves will have to resort to using ranged attacks, considering how hard it is to hit fliers with melee dwarves (fucking keas).  Imagine an entire squadron of marksdwarves firing dakka through the sky as the dragon lights the scenery on fire.  And then Bard comes along with an artifact arrow

Think about it.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Help, drowning in GCS...

*cough* I think I need help.

Yeah... suggestions on what to do with these little guys? :( I went slightly overboard with the breeding program, and they just KEEP BIRTHING.  Now I'm getting at least 5 new baby GCS'es per season.  Last season I got 10. Darn triplets.

GCS Count: 42
