DF Gameplay Questions / Adventure Mode Updates?
« on: February 25, 2020, 04:01:38 pm »
What changes have been made to adventure mode since late 2018? Any new mods? Starting with a party doesn't aggro civilized villagers now? Do campsites still corrupt monster ID#? Which tileset should I use for campsites in masterwork?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / TG Fortress [Recruiting Players]
« on: November 21, 2017, 06:25:24 pm »
Prologue:
You awaken, in a Tolkien-esque world.

Description:
This is a mature strategic-survival RPG for transformation fans. Players can control multiple characters at once, with each character generating one action point per week. The first 15 players to create a character will receive additional action points, and are responsible for driving the world's backstory, economy, and political landscape. Death is permanent.

TG Fortress is a play-by-post on Discord, with characters generating one action point per week. Stats and crafting are derived from Dwarf Fortress, with skills based on Gladiator Tournament and Adventure Mode. Combat takes place inside of the Dwarf Fortress Object Testing Arena, and potions can be used to heal fatal wounds, at the risk of being transformed.

TG Fortress is the foundation for a larger game, in which players controlling NPC tribes can participate in uncensored content. The 'win' condition for Bay12 players is to destroy all of the NPC tribes on the mainland, and to assassinate (or transform) every one of the demon lords and necromancers. The world is in peril!

World Map

TG Fortress Civilian Actions: (It costs one action point perform a week's worth of work. Civilians are less likely to die but more likely to be kidnapped.)
Doctor (+potions; rescues fatally wounded companions, administers potions to companions and prisoners with severed limbs. Can perform an irreversible 'medical operation' on one prisoner per week; metal sword/axe/spear required.)
Prospecter (small chance to find metal vein where your character is exploring; recommended 1500 intuition to avoid dangerous NPC encounters. Low chance to raise climbing skill. At the cost of 1 stone tool, prospecters can also search below-ground!)
Trader (can barter items or action points with another player who is trading. Free for tribe members and tribes connected by trade routes; 1 action point to travel to visit a foreign tribe.)
Mason (+1 to 4 tools from 1 to 4 stone (dwarves and goblins get their stone for free)! Or: +shield from 1 stone (requires tool). Or: +weapon of choice from 1 stone (requires tool).)
Miner (+1 to 4 stone; default dwarf action; dwarves have a low chance to find gems; consumes 1 stone tool.)
Woodcutter (+2 to 12 logs; non-elves consume 1 stone tool)
Singer (functions the same as carpentry but without logs; requires musicality and creativity; default elf action, increases musicality.)
Fletcher (+25 ammo from 1 log, or 1 stone, or 1 log + 1 metal; necessary for bows & crossbows.)
Carpenter (create a wooden shield/weapon/cage/armor of your choice; crossbows are only made by dwarves; bows are only made by elves. Chance to increase creativity.)
Smelter (+bar from ore and logs)
Weaponsmith (+shield or +weapon of choice from bar)
Armorsmith (+armor of choice from bar)
Lovemaking (free action, can be taken once per day. Success dependent on linguistic ability, social awareness, musicality, target's libido and sexual history with target. Chance to cause pregnancy and raise empathy of both participants.)
Train Libido (free action, can be taken once per day. Only requires one hand.)
Use Potion (free action. Restores one damaged limb. Side effects may include feminization, hair length, breast size, butt size. Talk to the potion brewer to memorize the recipe.)
Train Swimming (for those moments you dodge into a river; logs and water required. Dependent on intuition, waistline, breast/butt size, endurance, and kinesthetic sense)
Train Flying (this is a very, very, verrrry bad idea. Useful for escaping captivity. Success dependent on intuition and wings.)
Dancer (default slave action; raises stats but lowers willpower; makes you the primary target of kidnappers. Refunds one action point.)
Prayer (default prisoner action; chance to reverse transformations, resist taming, and lower libido. Based on focus, willpower, and memory. Refunds one action point.[/spoiler]

TG Fortress Roles: (default free action, no action points spent)
Mayor (civilian population 7 required; gain 2 action points per week. Requires social awareness.)
Militia Captain (each week, teach 1/7 of your skillpoints in a skill of choice to all other militia members!)

DF Suggestions / Adventure Mode Suggestions
« on: May 28, 2017, 01:59:57 pm »
Bugs/Suggestions
1) When you attack with a weapon in a hand that is holding an object for climbing, you should release your hold. (I shouldn't be able to punch twice, block, shield strike, and swing an axe simultaneously WHILE holding onto a vertical wall.)
2) Pressing Q lets me wield stuff in both hands while climbing. (Also picking stuff up while your backpack is full is broken. I can carry two dozen weapons and still have 0.99 movespeed AND climb/swim normally.)
3) When an elf adventurer gives logs to an elf (especially if members of the same society) then the elf have a different message than "A bauble only fit for your kind!" (Tried to give a wooden cup of wine to the elf queen.)
4) C̶h̶e̶r̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶p̶i̶n̶e̶a̶p̶p̶l̶e̶s̶ ̶g̶r̶o̶w̶ ̶i̶n̶ ̶t̶r̶e̶e̶s̶ ̶n̶o̶t̶ ̶b̶u̶s̶h̶e̶s̶.̶  (Wait. WHAT!?! I thought. But - all this time, I thought pineapple trees were a thing!! And there are cherry bushes too. >.<)
5) If I have max 2 companions but have them work on building and then leave, I can recruit two more... What? (I made a camp, had them start working, left, recruited two more companions, and then returned. Now I have four companions following me and am getting like x100 monster spawn rates with bat men and ant women and blind cave ogres appearing above ground. With low social skills and no fame.)
6) Crippling lag at sites in adventure mode may be caused by something spawning on a tree underground..? I did have two companions plus two companions abandoned at my camp when my maximum was definitely two. And it seems this yeti kept cloning itself. I had been tracking its night travel instead of heading towards it and then demon rats appeared and two yetis appeared and the game lag got four times better but then it crashed. (See 'Double Yeti crash' save file.) You'll note there is also a goat in the tree to the south, a goat in a tree to the southwest, and all of the animals are tired, and there is a grimeling fighting Lesno Ebkaulco and winning (ssw). There are about 13 demon rats. The goats, coyotes, giant kea and peregrine falcon are ALL over-exterted. There's a militia captain in a tree. A completely healthy yeti gives in to pain after one hack to the leg. There are five yetis on the west side of the site, interspered with tired goats and coyotes. A yeti was fighting a giant kea. There's a muscular blind cave ogre with Ilral Wingchamber's blood. (Ok. The monsters are definitely respawning. I killed a reacher twice and then its name changed the second time.)

(The monster remembers its own name but my kill log gives it a different name each time I kill it. Getting bat man and ant women and even an axe-wielding cave-dwelling barn owl woman to refer to themselves as TRANS_NAME.)
7) I want a pet kitten.
8) And cat women.
9) Eating a kitchen-prepared meal (biscuits/stew/roast) in freezing temperatures gives you the message: "The <food item> was too cold to enjoy." unless you heat it on a campfire,  Or, "You gnaw away at the frozen <food type>." and it doesn't give unfettered from eating decent meal. And frozen food takes double ticks (time) to consume.
10) A flirtation & marriage system in adventure mode. If you have a married adventurer then even an option to start an adventure as their heir. If both you and your spouse are both members of your fort or created by you, then the female should have the feature to make a baby. Maybe you get a stockpile of food and water and if you are in a bed you can make a baby from the sleep menu and it takes several days and you auto-eat and auto-drink or it will tell you "Not enough food" or "Not enough water".
11) Looking at a statue/figurine/weaving makes you unfettered from admiring art.
12) Having someone who is a member of your society or group agree with you completely in an argument will make you more unfettered from not being with friends (like one complete agreement from an adventurer/society member per degree of fetteredness).
13) Talking to family members lowers your fetteredness from not talking to family.
14) Let us get fame from killing beasts and megabeasts. I've killed a giant, a cyclops, and an ogre. My companions saw me do it. And no fame anywhere. I even turned in the quest and defeated an invading army and told the defenders. Rumors/stories/witnesses/compliments, but no fame. (This was the one where my number of companions was glitched too high.) Also, killing goblins or packs of armed goblins should give some fame. So like, if I slay a beast which was a quest for that place, and I spread the rumor of me slaying it there, I should retroactively gain the quest and gain fame for killing it? Same with killing the overlord of an invading army/camp.

You drink a draft of ale too many, and pass out...
When you awake? Blood.
A troll lies decapitated at the entrance to your home.
Further inward, the corpses of your friends, underneath rows of bolt-spattered goblins.
The blood soaks through your socks, and you steal a new pair from your fallen comrades. They won't be needing them.
You are about to loot a hefty battleaxe from a dead goblin when you hear a wheelbarrow clattering up the stairs.
Praising God, you step forth to reveal yourself to your surviving brethren but stop short, as the sound of cave spider shoes echoes up from the stairwell.
You hear a goblin cursing. The nobles had banned cave spider thread. Nobody in the fort wears cave spider shoes. Unless..?
Taking precaution, you hide inside a workshop and listen.
The wheelbarrow passes you by. You sneak a glance at a heap of lifeless Dwarf bodies.
You are filled with rage! You grab an axe, and charge the goblin from behind!
But after slaying your foe, you stare at the bloody corpses of your comrades. Stacked in a pile.
There is nothing you can do.
You must live to fight another day.
You painstakingly survive in secret. Pilfering supplies from the newly-conquered goblin fortress until you find six surviving refugees to join you.
This was the last Mountainhome.
There are no other nations to go to.
The humans have long ago succumbed to evil.
The elves - if they exist - are hidden by the deepest, most savage forests known to Dwarfdom.
And your home... The last bastion of civilization against the rampaging goblin hordes?
Gone.
The final nation.
This continent has no future for you.
You must gather supplies, and trek across the polar ice sheets. Make your way off your continent, and pray to God that your party of seven can find a new land. A new home. Free of goblin tyranny!
Or die trying.

This is a world succession game with four rules:
1) Everyone embarks their own fort. You can only control a fort/adventurer that you created. (You can however, attack other players' forts in adventure mode, recruit veteran adventurers, or "borrow" as many items as you see fit!)
2) You have three days to manifest your will. Bringer of Destruction? Peaceful Ruler? Or Vengeful Adventurer? The fate of the world rests in your hands.
3) No mods; we are playing on version 0.43.05!
4) Post a screenshot and list your accomplishments! Retire your fort and upload your save file so that the next person can play. You are allowed to unretire anything with the owner's permission.

Note: I have 146 hours of gameplay on this region. You are welcome to join me! Let me know if you would like a Youtube video made of your fort. Here are some screenshots!

DF Suggestions / Adding Citizens to Burrow

It takes too long with 180+ dorfs. Can we have a way to toggle burrows as active/inactive like with animal pens?

DF Gameplay Questions / Newbie Questions
« on: February 08, 2015, 05:53:36 am »
Why are dumped corpses ignored for so long? When I have burial-ready coffins why is hauling mussel shells to refuse stockpiles more important than burying corpses? Why don't brooks give my waterwheels power? Why doesn't wind give my windmill power? Do I need a gear assembly underneath instead of a millstone? Why does building near trees cause the game to crash when branches or twigs overlap with constructing floor tiles? Why are there no goblins even though I'm one overworld map tile from a goblin fortress with maximum world aggression settings? Why is there no ore despite prioritizing mining at 1-3 priority for years through gneiss, marble, slate, and granite (descending order) and I have over 3000 prepared meals and 2000 ammunition :(

Why haven't my farming plots after a year despite having a high traffic area leading there and three farmers? Why do tree cutting and mining designations turn light-blue and not get done (when a caravan came). Why won't dwarves with one labor preference and a burrow on top of where they need to work do their job? Why do I have to dump axes before woodcutters will use them? Why can't I pacify moody dwarves? Had a married mason go mad and become a craftsdwarf even though he hates crafting and wasn't annoyed by anything other than a lack of tables when there are medium dining halls with chairs near every sleeping quarter. He was sad being apart from a loved one so I had his wife station beside him for a month and he dies of dehydration. Locking him a room with beer doesn't help. Had another dwarf commit suicide when he was trying to make an artifact but I ran out of wood even though I had a dozen dwarves available for woodcutting and high priority tree chopping designations. How do I prevent dwarves from trapping rodents that escape their cages while getting them to trap animals for food or keep enough traps in stock for mussel-fishing? What do I do with captured flies and tamed caged rodents? How do I sell animals? How do I butcher tamed animals? Is there a way to get notifications when animals or NPCs enter the map or keep a side-tab open which lists the newest "Others" creatures that enter the map? (i.e. placing the "Others" creatures list below my minimap and sort by order of newest.) Is there a way to heal possessed or diseased dwarves? Why do blood and slime spread so ridiculously when washed? Does dumping water on animals and dwarves prevent disease and ticks? Is there a way to sort alphabetically when assigning dwarves to squads and furniture to dwarves or searching through room owners? Why can't I click a dwarf to select him/her or simply drag his name/icon with the mouse onto a room/squad/room? Why do I have to manually de-assign all labors to dwarves whenever I run out of a material and then assign a warren at the collection-point so that they will go and get that? Why isn't the priority of obtaining those resources automatically increased when other dwarves need them (to the point of suicide over lack of logs)? Can we have an artifacts tab at the trade depot? Perhaps replace the Cheese <Plant> tab in stockpiles. Can I make new civilizations by retiring my fortress? To for example increase the number of migrants that arrive when I attempt to colonize adjacent evil biomes. There are certain aspects of the game which I enjoy more than others yet it would be nice to be able to focus on those without constant resource shortages and migrants. In which ways can I interact with a retired fort without reclaiming it, and what variables (e.g. population, military strength, opulence) affect these future post-retirement interactions..? It would be nice if cancelled manager orders would automatically temporarily increase the priority of the resource collection relevant. Perhaps dependant on manager skills. Will v40.24 save files be compatible with new releases? What are a few things I can do to avoid randomly killing-off all of my dwarves? This is my first time playing outside an evil/desert biome and my first time surviving longer than 2 years. Population 100; created wealth 545740. How do I type the correct symbol?

And where are the zombie carp?
