General Discussion / My town sucks
« on: April 23, 2009, 12:46:08 am »
My town sucks, in fact, I'd say that of all the forums, I live in the worst one.  The cops are corrupt and racist, there is only one bar in the whole goddamned town, and the rednecks are rife with power and smell.  The food is horrible, we don't have a single restaurant that is not either a fast food place or an extremely sub par example of a national chain.  It's way to fucking hot, and technology seems to cost twice as much as it does everywhere else.  And we have a ghetto called southside that takes up half the damn town where the drug dealers who haven't paid off the sheriff's office are either constantly being arrested on little to no evidence or are being shot by their rivals, and local newspaper doesn't even bother reporting on it.  The only place to buy anything is a massive wal-mart, and we all know how evil those are.

"But Anfold,: you say in a nasally voice, with the awe of my manhood coloring your intonation, "surely that's just like every other small town in America."  But you see, it's not really a small town, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dublin,_Georgia that's 17,000 residents, not counting East Dublin, Which apparently split ff in a foul attempt to spread ignorance and chewing tobacco via mitosis. the vast majority of the populace is not even represented as the rednecks control every aspect of the local government.

No, Dublin is not a small town, and yes, the redneck games are held here.  You might know of them from a certain MTV reality show that had everyone in the nation laughing at our backwards asses.  Instead of actually being a small town, the people in charge just want to believe that its a small town.

The town is infested with vermin as well. No not small animals, but wandering preachers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KE9mwRwvKeA who attack passerby with verbal assaults, and once a shoe thrown at my head because I was walking by ignoring them.

So you think your town is worse than mine?  You think you live in a horrible black hole of corruption and failure that sucks away the souls of those who live there? I say bring forth your stories of horrible home towns and let the forums decide who truly lives in the biggest shittpile in the 1st world.

DF Suggestions / Basic troubleshooting sticky
« on: September 10, 2008, 11:23:51 pm »
A lot of the bug reports made are of commonly known bugs or well known technical issues. Maybe a sticky thread of common misconceptions, display problems, well known bugs and solutions/workarounds to help cut down on some of the repeat traffic. I know that not everyone will read a sticky, but having a convenient place to keep the knowledge and might help new users and experienced users alike to keep track of things.

...sorry if this has been suggested/shot down before. I didn't see it on the first few pages.

DF Bug Reports / [40a] Strange designations
« on: August 21, 2008, 01:14:48 pm »
In the late summer for some unknown reason, and entire block of an area suddenly became designated with and upwards triangle, for seemingly no reason at all.  I'm not even sure what designation it is, and only found out about it after a section of cavern (more like sky) collapsed and killed one of my dwarves.  I have both the immediately afterwards save and the seasonal save from the start of summer, and see if I can get it to reproduce, though I doubt it will.

Is this purely a problem on my end (which seems likely, maybe some sort of memory corruption?), or should I upload the save for Toady to take a look at?

DF Bug Reports / [39a] Dead Megabeast Leads an army
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:22:06 am »
Checking out the legends screen found this interesting tidbit

In 126, Ereg Cleansearch the Plegm of Stances was struck down by Almef Sealroses in Cloisterpage.

In 168, The band of Pastimes attacked Slalraymus at Lacymurk. Ted Menlucid led the attack, and the defenders were led by Ereg Cleansearch the Plegm of Stances

Zombie Hydra maybe?

DF Gameplay Questions / Shops in Adventure mode
« on: December 17, 2007, 11:44:00 pm »
I decide to play the adventure mode for a while just to test it out on a different install of the latest version (.33f).  I make a human bowman, start out with an iron bow and 35 iron arrows.  Lots of fun shooting off the iron men's arms and legs, but now I can't find a single shop that sells ammunition of any kind, and I checked every town in the local civ, lots of bows, no arrows.  Do shops actually sell ammo, or did I just have a bit of bad luck with the seed generator?

DF Gameplay Questions / Titan Attack
« on: December 15, 2007, 11:02:00 pm »
I started playing this game about a week ago, and my fortress is in the beginning of its third year. Out of nowhere a massive blue T appears and kills all the elven traders who were "preparing to embark". (I got the message that they had left after the Titan killed the last one and sent him flying off the screen.) My military consists of one marks-dwarf and two sword-dwarfs who use iron weapons and iron chain, and about 13 war dogs.  I called all my dwarves back inside, is there any point in sending all my forces against him? I have a population of 58, and enough obsidian shortswords and various iron weapons to equip my entire populace to send against him. Will he leave if I wait him out, or will I have to kill him in a mass suicide rush? or should I just give up on "Wheelsdeath"?

DF Bug Reports / Fixed, bad dl maybe?
« on: January 01, 2008, 01:16:00 am »
Started a new fortress under G, and my miners refuse to dig under a stairway.  I tried placing stairways outside, in a 4x4 room, in a wall, etc. etc.  and they refuse to dig.  Annoying, as some stone would be useful.
