DF General Discussion / Graphical FPS drops with larger screen sizes

Dear fellow Urists,

Does anyone else experience a drop in FPS if you enlarge the game window beyond, say, 1920x1080?
If I enable the game's FPS counter I see graphics cap out at 60 (50) FPS regardless of init config (I capped game FPS to 60 to avoid excessive update rates though).
If I enalrge the window to 5120x1440 the same save has 60 (~25) FPS. with UI FPS also the game's responsiveness drops and key inputs and mouse presses are lagging.
Fullscreen and windowed mode doesnt make a difference.

Any help on optimizing my config to be able to play on my large screen would be appreciated :)

Is there a quick reference for LUA & DFHack?

I'm not familiar with LUA itself but with a few other languages and I want to create a little script that I can hook up to the repeat command and have it run once a day that reduces a specific field in the current soul of every dwarf in my fort by 5% until it reaches 0 and caps there and I figure LUA would be the best approach to accomplish this.

Ah damn!

I just found a very awesome forgotten beast wandering around my caverns. A giant human composed of flames. It hurls fireballs and breathes fire and apparently water evaporates where it walks and the ground catches fire. I activated all traps and alerted my military in the hopes of seeing a gloreous battle any maybe even catch the thing.....

its NOT HOSTILE!!! it now sits in my meeting area watching my dwarfes as they do their daily business. Occasionally it wanders the fortress (which luckily is made of stone) and thats it! I now have a forgotten beast pet monster! I sure hope it asks for citizenship! still....very disappointing :(

DF Gameplay Questions / Mass Engravings with chosen content

Hi folks,

I wanted to decorate a hall with all the great achievements of my militia commander and decided to give the engraving definition a try. According to the wiki you designate an area for engraving and then hit D to define the image/content unfortunately this definition seems to only affect the designation the cursor hovers over but not all the designated area. Is there something I miss? Or is it possible to copy the selection over? Or do I really have to set this for every tile separately?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Traders dump items and leave

I have a strange effect in my forts. Sometimes,when merchants or invaders  enter the map, they vanish and all the stuff they wear or carry with them is dumped just outside the map only vissible on the stock overview. Whrn food is part of the load sometines a dwarf travels to the edge of the map and fetches a fish out of thin air. The barrels are also assigned to stockpiles which leads to malfunctioning stockpiles. Solution is to use the stock screen to mark all of these to dump and then use dfhack autodump to gain access but this gets annoying with the time...

Anybody else affected by this bug? There is a mantis post but it is marked as resolved which it isn't as I run 0.44.05

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Magma Minecart shotgun

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get my minecart based lava/magma "delivery system" to work but somehow I fail to get magma into the minecart and the minecart out of the magma. I have small section filled with magma by a screwpump which pressurizes the area to 7. As soon as a minecart falls in, one tile changes to 6 and the minecart shows 833 "units" of magma inside, which is a good start but I cant get the minecart out of the 3 tile long section anymore. I tried rollers (I seem to fail at constructing ramp rollers somehow?) impulse ramps facing SW in a N->S leading magma mold, even paving each tile with impulse ramps only leads to the minecart being stuck at the last tile on the ramp before going 1 z level up.

somehow my minecarts get washed back by the magma flow the minecart generates when filling up and then the impulse ramps aren't enough to push it out of the magma. I really hope some of you have an idea what I did wrong :)

As far as I have seen there are many dfhack scripters here so maybe you can help me out a little on my quest to clean up my fortress. After being under constant attacks by goblins, humans and even the undead piles of corpses and mangled feet, hands, heads, neck, teeth are scattered around the map. And since having my dwarves walking out there to collect and dump the stuff is a guarantee for fun I thought 'nah just let it lay there for a year or two and the cloth and rejains will rot away'. Well go figure, they dont.

On my quest to find a solution I found the dfhack plugins for deterioratecorpses and food and copied them to also affect forbidden ammo but for some reason the scripts only affects ammo shot by my dwarves and not invaders ammo and not all corpses, bones and so on disappear. Dwarves of course remain but also certain horses or goblins or human bodies just won't wear.

I would appreciate any help here, maybe I overlooked a script that already solves this or I'm doing something wrong...

Tilesets and Graphics / A more dwarfish font

Hey guys,

Since the normal font just isn't dwarfy enough for my taste I adjusted the font for my DF version to a more edgy style. If you are interested in using it, find the font below. The numbers do not match the rest of the style yet but this is bound to change as well.
