As part of a fortress defence project based on the magma landmines thread, I've been trying to link some pressure plates to a door about 4 z-levels below. However, the dwarves keep reporting "Could not find path" errors - the assigned mechanic will grab a mechanism, walk a few tiles away, then suspend the task reporting they "Could not find [a] path" even when the stairs down to the door are a couple tiles away. I've already checked the path leading to the door and there's no visible blockages along the way on any z-level; building a set of stairs directly down from the pressure plates to the door needing to be linked up (having already channelled out this shifty) also yields a "Could not find path" error, so I'm not quite sure what's behind the problem.

Anyone able to help?

I've managed to get my hands on a bag of husking soot, but seem to be having some issues with actually causing my adventurer to become one. I've tried emptying the bag onto the floor before having the adventurer walk across the tile repeatedly (with socks and shoes off), lacing water with the soot before attempting to drink it (resulted in a 'No. That's disgusting.' message; putting it in a goblet and giving it to a companion without a backpack/pouch resulted in them not drinking it), dropping food into a soot-covered tile before eating it - none of which has worked.

Anyone got any idea how to make them go husk?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Goblin bone crafts?
« on: August 03, 2021, 12:54:51 pm »
Having previously thrown a number of Goblin captives off the top of my fortress, I noted there appear to be several stacks of [Goblin's name] bones in one of my refuse piles. However, when I specify goblin bone crafts to be made at the Craftsdwarf's workshop, it comes up with an error reading '[Dwarf] cancels Make goblin bone crafts: Needs unrotten body parts' despite the bones being unforbidden and accessible.

Is there any way around this, or should I just toss the lot of them in the magma moat?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Question: How to build a Magma Sprinkler?
« on: March 30, 2021, 01:22:26 pm »
Having embarked upon a sand-rich volcano surrounded by angry tree-huggers, can anyone explain to a relative newbie to magma projects how to do this without accidentally screwing everything up?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Sudden Pop Growth at Conquered Site?
« on: January 12, 2021, 12:32:15 pm »
An odd thing I noticed: when I conquered a Dark Pit in fortress mode, I sent across a group of five Dwarves to there. Checking it on the world map after the 'X has claimed the position of Administrator' thing, there's now eleven times that many Dwarves and two dozen animals there. Since I'm on an isolated island and there's nothing but Goblins and a single Goblin-conquered fortress, where did they all come from? And is this normal?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Hardened Individual?
« on: January 09, 2021, 07:35:40 pm »
Having recently dealt with my latest harvest of Goblinite through mass Marksdwarf fire and subsequent mop-up by Axedwarves, I found many of the military dwarves now have 'He/She is a hardened individual' in their profile. Does this actually do anything, stress-wise? And do only soldiers gain this, or can any dwarf do so if they witness enough deaths?

After recruiting a Human Pikeman, he got himself killed (suffocation) against a Night Troll. I've rezzed him as an Intelligent Undead, and he's showing as a companion, but I can't find any way to equip him with the gear he dropped on death. Any attempt to talk with him and make him barter/trade equipment just loops back around so that my character's the only one talking.

Any idea to how to make him equip his old gear? Or am I doomed to have him get pasted when he goes into a fight against armed enemies?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Equipping Undead companions?

Is there a way to equip items to Undead (i.e.: 'Raise Corpse'-created) companions?

If I was to have a Necromancer Adventurer animate (not resurrect) a Megabeast, would the Megabeast still be hostile to me?
