General Discussion / Wondering if someone can help me find this site
« on: January 31, 2011, 03:51:43 am »
Essentially, it's two dudes who play video games against each other and put a weird twist / challenge on it (I believe there was one where they played outside in sub-zero temperatures in their underwear and every time someone lost a round they would have cold water tipped on them). At the end of this the person who lost would spin a wheel containing a number of punishments and would suffer whatever the wheel stopped on (there were some REALLY far out things on that wheel).

I can't remember the names of the two guys or any specific games they played. However I remember there being an episode where they were playing a boxing game on the wii while being beaten up by actual boxers and another where they ate a ton of food and when one lost a round the other would stomp on their gut.

I've been trying to find it through my usual channels (google and partner sites of sites that i frequent) and can't find it, so I'm hoping that someone on B12 recognises it.

Hi all,

Got a game crash trying to enter military screen, have uploaded the save to file depository, after loading the save, just push 'm' and the game will crash. No mods or anything like that.

DF Modding / Multiple [DEEP] ores *Potential Spoilers*
« on: August 12, 2008, 01:15:47 am »
Hey all,

I've just been wondering how to spice up my forts a bit and I came upoon the idea of making adamantine non [DEEP]. Works great, only now I can buy adamantine items on embark and I'm stuck being FORCED to take an adamantine war axe instead of steel, which sort of ruins the fun of prospecting for it.

Now, I've set adamantine back to being [DEEP] but I've also made a few other ores/metals which are just as/more valuable than adamantine and I've been wondering:

- Will the game accept more than one [DEEP] metal

- Will each pit only be accompanied by a single type of [DEEP] metal or will they all be present.

- Finally, is it possible to make it so as if I want adamantine to be non [DEEP], I won't be able to order it from liasons or take it on embark?

Thanks in advance.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Entertaining ways to lose people
« on: July 28, 2008, 05:40:03 am »
Hey all, just wondering if any of you had any funny stories of how you've lost dwarves (or any creature you've civved).

I'll start shall I?

Well, I'd just finished the fortification level of my defense tower and was happily looking at the handiwork when I scroll over and notice, to my horror, that there was a HUGE overhang sticking out DIRECTLY in the LoS of the fortifications, knowing this would render the tower moot as a defense tool I quickly designate the part connecting it to the rest of the mountain to be channelled. BAAAAD idea.

The overhang completely collapses, falling THROUGH the ground and DESTROYING my only bridge across the chasm, inconveniently placed directly below the overhang, the two miners both came away unscathed, albeit unconscious, however, my carpenter, mason, metalsmith and stonecrafter were ALL in the immediate vicinty i.e ON the bridge, consequently they all had a fun trip to the centre of the earth, this combined with the fact my farmer had fallen in only about a week ago meant that I was left with two unconscious miners on the surface. I quickly

Later on, in the new and improved fort, I was building some levers for my extrmely comprehensive and over the top defense system and, being unaware what would happen, build a few floors out into the chasm. All good so far, then I build a one square bridge on the end of it. Alright still. Finally I built ANOTHER constructed floor on the other side of the bridge. Uh oh, wrong plan. The floor fell off straight away producing a large and quite odd wave of dust (how can there be dust from a floor falling off a bridge into a chasm?). The mason (one of my original six since the farmer took a plunge) was knocked backwards into the OPPOSITE wall and fell in. Not realising what happened since I wasn't looking at the time, I redesignated the same floor to be built AGAIN, this time by a peasant, again, as you may guess, the floor fell of, repeating last times results. Unfortunately, this dust wave happened to catch two other dwarves (not important ones mind) and knocked one into the chasm and the other into a wall. In addition, the same wave somehow managed to reach over the bridge ABOVE it 2 z levels and knocked a brewer off, killing him and a few cats I had caged there.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / The strangest mood
« on: June 09, 2008, 09:43:00 pm »
Rather than a long explanation, I'll post the game log:

Logem LulƒrŠzum, Child withdraws from society...
Logem LulƒrŠzum has claimed a Craftsdwarf's Workshop.
Logem LulƒrŠzum has begun a mysterious construction!
Logem LulƒrŠzum, Child has created –zabod, a Rhyolite scepter!
Logem LulƒrŠzum, Child is more experienced.

Now I have an ultra mighty, legendary stonecrafter.... child.

Have many other people had a child get a mood?

Curses / LCS - Strategies
« on: January 22, 2008, 06:54:00 am »
Hey all, I was just wondering if some of you could share your strategies when playing LCS, I seem to be quite a noob at it (which makes the game very fun), but I have found myself often restarting several times in rapid succession because a druggie just happened to be carrying a chain or I get mobbed by a group of security guards.

I generally only use one of my two strategies:

My first involves me going out ASAP and getting as many recruits as I can, normally forming them into squads whcih are all stationed at different safehouses, so as to not lose my whole group just cause one of my guys dows something illegal. Unfortunately, I have had... let me count... oh, one time when this has actually gotten past the first year, mainly because every time I go out to recruit people, some random conservative attacks me and kills me, I will demonstrate one of the more... odd ways that happened:

Start of battle
Secretary jabs at you and hits the left arm
You seem strangely calm
Secretary jabs at you and hits the left leg
Escape from battle

Afterwards, I went and checked to find that my left arm and leg were..... bruised... and I was.... NearDETH. Eh? How does that work.

I digress.

My second strategy is to simply hack for cash from the start, I generally create a character that has high computer and acceptable law and persuasion. I normally spend several years amassing a fortune and boosting my characters skills. The best on I did had my character at 10 Law, 10 Persuasion and 9 Computer before I stopped. His conversation skill was 36 on issues, 34 on dating, and 30 on bluff. With my vast, vast fields of money I normally fully deck out one or two safe houses with all the fortifications and leave the other for a printing press. Unfortunatly, I still die quite often, and on the best one described earlier, a string of inconveniences led my entire force to be broken up after the cops raided me, in the end what people remained held a last stand in my main fortress (I had well over 300 days of rations there, as well as full fortifications) but somehow, I was picked off by a sniper a few days in.

Anyway, in addition to strategy help, I also have a few questions.

1)Is there someway to be protected from snipers? I mean in reality it doesn;t make sense that if you knew snipers were there you would be in any spot to be shot.

2a)Converting people to sleepers, I know there have been a lot of strategies on this, but none seem to work for me, even when they are down to 1 wisdom and 4 heart, they don't seem to want to come to my side, and eventually I just abandon them.

2b)What are the mainly useful sleeper types? I know that lawyers and judges are a good help. And Tv and Radio people are useful too. But what about CEOs and programmers etc. Are they very helpful as sleepers? What about junkies and the like?

Whew, that was long... Especially for a first post.
Thanks for any help given.
