DF Suggestions / crafts production quality vs. quantity

Long I've been annoyed by the spam of masterworks by my legendary dwarves - imo they're far too common, so much that they become unremarkable. Dunno if anything has been done about that (I still play 0.47.05), but last night I had an epiphany. What if there was an option in each job to focus on quantity over quality, or vice versa? Focusing on quantity would reduce job timer but produce basic quality items, while the other option would go slower (perhaps even way slower?) and produce higher quality stuff. Lore-wise, if I just want to mass-produce something, it kinda makes no sense that dwarves spend so much time and effort on those items.

Also, is it something that personality/values affect? Does a dwarf who "views craftsdwarfship with disgust and would desecrate a so-called masterwork or two if they could get away with it" create a masterwork?

Is there a DFHack script or something that could do for work orders what DFHack's `job item-material/item-type` does for jobs?

I tried some basic trickery with df.global.world.manager_orders, like to use only rock nuts for paste. Setting mat_type and mat_index for the order has no effect (at least in 47.05), so I guess it'd need an items vector... but dunno if that'd work, I'll have to give it a try.

It's bit funny that a site might link to your fortress even if it's closer to the mountainhome than you. And that's an entirely one-sided process that you can't influence?

Doesn't seem that beneficial either. The burden of having to deal with a baron outweighs the theoretically positive thing that you can request specific workers from a holding, which I don't expect to ever use with this fort.

DF Gameplay Questions / Hauling job generation

I have this problem that every time I butcher/slaughter multiple animals at once, some of the return items just rot. Even if I designate them for dumping, the jobs aren't necessarily generated. And as the hauling jobs aren't there, burrows don't help. Same happens in kitchens if I have fast cooks, and rotting roasts are pretty annoying.

Is there any way around this? Is this a common problem, or am I missing something obvious? How are hauling jobs generated anyway? Is it related to the number of haulers?

How do you handle gelding?

I've sort of naturally distributed the fields of work between different farmer's workshops, but it seems like the gelding orders are distributed between all workshops, even regardless of their work load. It's fairly sub-optimal to have a gelder take over your plant processing workshop that's a hundred squares further away than your animal workshop. :|

Is there a trick to it, or do you just not specialize the workshops?
