DF Modding / How to increase FOV on a specific item in DFhack
« on: November 14, 2020, 10:50:23 am »
I'm trying to integrate the musket-mod into the long night mod. I currently got the all scattergun to shoot multiple pellets and now I'm working on the rifle. My plan with the rail-rifle was to make it automatic and have each rifle have various accuracy. Like a standard-rail rifle is less accurate than a pistol grip rail-rifle. But something came across my mind. Is there a way to increase FOV on a rail-rifle and a sniper?  The answer yes.

But the issue is that don't know how. So I ask you guys how can I increase FOV on an item?

A bearded tavern keeper is standing behind a bar. He is wiping a mug in his hand with a piece of cloth, his eyes are close as he does his monotonous work at  hand. Across from the tavern keeper is a passed out patron his table is littered with empty mugs some even rolled off the table and into the floor producing a clanging sound when it hit the wooden floorboard. Surprisingly  this didn't bother the tavern keeper or the patron's sleep. At the back of the tavern is a bulletin board that has fliers pinned to it.  these fliers range from quest to local news. However one flier stuck out from the rest. At the bottom of the paper, is a red logo of a monster head being impaled by a sword. The title in bold fonts reads, "Join the monster hunter guild" and what follow after...

======================================================================================================================================

This is basically an adventure succession game where we hunt down  monsters and beast to gain rep in a monster hunter guild. I will notify to everyone that I wanted to increase the difficulty, so I threw in Spellcraft,  Aeromore expansion, and diforge. I mainly just took their weapons, ores, spells, and monsters, and left out the civs from these mods. I increased the amount of megabeast, semi-beast, and titans to 500. So there wont be any shortage of monsters to kill for sometime. I will also have a post that will be dedicated to keeping records of every player's kill count, I'm currently thinking of a ranking system, where with enough kills you'll be given a title that reflects your skills . You'll also get a statue made after you and it will be place in the hall of beast.

this will work like your usual succession game,  you have a week to hunt down at least one beast,  when you have killed your first, you are to bring it to our guild house, it can be the corpse of the monster, or a part of the monster. When you register your first  and give us and update, I will update the record and place it under your adventurer's name it's best to register your first monster before you decide to hunt down another one, because if you die before registering your first kill your adventurer will not be a member of the monster hunter guild, so keep that in mind. I would prefer for every player to write a story of their adventurers hunting down the beast, but it's not needed. You can simply just screenshot what you have killed and give us a short update of your hunt. and of course, you can only play as a hero or a peasant, no demigod.  oh! and you can make  forts if you want,  humans are playable here by the way.

also! don't cheat! remember losing is fun. So please don't save scum, if you die, you die, you can just ask another turn and make another player.

I am a bit excited about this, and I am curious to see how this ASG develops into. With all that said.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN

MONSTER HUNTER GUILD RANKS

1. C rank - 1 kill - enlisted hunter
2. B rank - 5 kill - experience hunter
3. A rank - 10 kills - veteran hunter
4. S rank - 15 kills - head hunter
5. SS rank - 30 kills - supreme hunter
6. SSS rank 50 kills - Avatar of Kima

(When you hit S rank, you'll get a statue made in your honor and it will be place in the hall beast, at SSS rank a shrine will be built outside the guild house, I am thinking of placing them at the side of the road, so  when travellers pass by can take a look of the great heroes of the monster hunter guild )

AfterPost: You are allow to have a party of 5 peasants or a party of 2 heroes. Recruiting NPC is allow also, but only up to two. If you decide to take the party route, then you must name your party, so when your party submit their spoil, I can just write on the guild record as under one name.

Afterpost 2:  So I made some changes. You don't necessarily need to bring your spoil to the guild house to become a member. Rumors will simply spread of your slaying and it will eventually reached the guild where you'll become a member. IF you want, you could drop a spoil or two to the guild, but it's no longer required.

PLAYER'S TURN

1. Luckyowl
2. Quantum Drop
3. Eric Blank
4.Travis Bickle
5.delphonso-play in progress...
6.Luckyowl
7.Yarlig

This is my first story, I don't really have any real goal as of now just want to tell the story of a bunch of prospectors who are to trying to gain riches. Of course DF is DF so most likely it will head to a different direction. If anyone want to be humaned, by all mean tell me.
This will be told from the perspective of Lucky the expedition leader. She might've gotten the name from her  childhood or something.

================================================================================================================================================================================================================

a party of seven human trek through the wasteland  seeking fortune in the vast desert of  the heavy desert. These prospectors, got wind of the rich ores that lay beneath their new home, and are looking to profit off them.

The journal of Lucky, Expedition Leader first of Granite,271

Well we finally arrived at the place, just your typical wasteland scenery, crumbling ruins here and there, pipes jutting out from the sandy landscape and such. It's all we know so it's nothing out of the ordinary for us, we did heard stories from the elders when earth was lush green planet, but That's not important to us, what is important are the rich ores beneath us. We are still not sure what type of ores, but we're hoping for some nanotechne. Since those things sell like hot cake in the wasteland, and if we can get  our hands on  some we will be rich!  We also decided to call our new home dust town. Since we felt like it fit the area quite nice.

As of writing this, two of our guys are digging down to create us a temporary home, which we will then turn into a  stone block factory to pump out blocks for construction up in the surface.
Hopefully those drill operators can  carve out a temporary home quickly though. Since the wasteland is home to weird  fauna who can easily kill us.  I will be ending the log here, and once everything settled down I will note our progress.

The journal of Lucky Twentieth of Limestone,271

We have finally got enough blocks to start  building up in the surface, also 6 migrants showed up in the nick of time to help us haul these blocks. Thanks to them we were able to get these blocks ready for construction earlier than usual. We had a bit of celebration to commemorate our hard work. Then a Pishacha class barged in with it's arm wailing wildly and ready to kill.

Luckily one of the new migrants had a bioframe with him so it was dispose rather quickly

                                                              killed
                                                                 l
                                                                V

Our outpost liaison also came exactly when we were about  to build up in the surface , sadly we wont be trading with the merchants this year. We really need to get situated if we are to survive.

Journal of Lucky, fifth of Obsidian,271

Things seemed to settle down quite nicely. Of course the fauna did  harass us a bit but our bioframes took care of them. We were still able to get our small town hall built, that will also act as a temporary temple, since everyone here is a bit unnerve being unable to worship our founders(OOC: gods).
We also had more migrants while we were constructing our small little fort. Which was nice. We sadly ran out of blocks to build our dormitory room. For now we are going to start hauling in some scrap metal  to start crafting beds and also some cups since I've been getting complaints from the new arrivals about the lack of cups to drink from.

Also wanted to dot this down since I think it's fairly important, but our Outpost liaison told us that a neighboring human civilization laid siege to one  of our holding

Apparently it happened right when religious priests and an enforcer were being inaugurated. Talk about luck?
Our Supreme Leader Fengo, is currently trying to work a peace treaty with our wavering  alliance Ink Bridled. He's a bit peeved by the whole attack, but he find peace preferable to war. Since he is more concern on preserving a good trading relationship. I hope we don't go to war, we got trouble as it is.

They aren't much, but they have been a pest to our merchant caravans. Always ambushing them and mainly destroying the caravan and fleeing into the desert. Sometimes they will wipe out everyone from the caravan to fuel their blood lust. I really hope they don't come here, we're not much of a militia.

I will take a rest for a bit and after that, I will be out hauling scrap metals. Not sure when I will write in my journal , maybe when we start building houses or maybe when I get any downtime to talk about the other members.

============================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================

I took a screenshot of my current town using Armok Vision it ain't much  for now, but felt like posting it.

I was thinking of doing slanted roof, but decided not to because their isn't any real need to build slanted roof, and it will take too long to build, also the environment is pretty hot and dried so their is no real need for slanted roof(Even though they do look nice in Armok Vision.)

DF Suggestions / Explore regions in Dwarf Fortress.
« on: August 13, 2020, 10:17:27 pm »

it would work by going into the world map and hover over the region you want to explore than you select  create mission and a new option to explore region will show. You select it and tell the party how many days they are to explore that region. You then are given more specific goal for the party, like cut down wood, hunt animals, gather fruits, or scout the area. Scout the area includes revealing lairs, bandit camps, shrines, and vaults. gathering fruits, hunt animals, and cut down wood, will operate the same within your sight. However you might require a tame animal that can carry stuff like wooden logs, or butcher animal parts.

Exploring a region should have a random encounter system, where your dwarves will have a chance to get ambushed by any night creature, werebeast, titans, or bandits. A way to lessen these encounter would be to have dwarves with good sneaking skills.

DF Community Games & Stories / An interactive adventure mode story
« on: January 29, 2020, 10:49:31 pm »
"Land ho!" The booming voice of a man in the Main deck pierce through your ear. You rub your eyes and yawn. You grabbed your equipment and made your way to the main deck your eyes adjust to the bursting light of the sun, and there it is...

WELCOME TO SMAKSMO XESTSU, LAND OF ENTRANCING

Alright this is just a test, not sure if this will work great, but I am passionate to try and make a story through the new party mode, and you guys will be the characters!

So this is how it will work, the first 4  to post their character creation will be the one playing. If you are going to be an animal man, make sure to have fail save races just incase the you wanted to play is not in this world. I will guide you through your journey, send image of where the party is at, and describe said image. Your character will be demigod and you can only have one pet.

DF Suggestions / Having gods influence the world.
« on: January 19, 2020, 04:07:27 pm »
In Hindu there is a concept where deities will manifest themselves on earth influencing the world. Be it good or bad or neutral at times. This concept is call "avatars" and I have been wondering if Tarn could somehow implement it into the world gen, having gods influence the world through avatars.

So this is how I think it would work. At some point in the generation an avatar is manifested into the world.  Generating an NPC with no parental links. The  avatars will  gain skills align with their spheres they will live a normal life until they reach year 12 of their life, at that point they will go out and influence the world bringing peace or chaos, sometimes two avatars of opposite spheres might clash with each other, like an avatar of war and chaos might clash with an avatar of Justice and fairness creating an everlasting war that will end if one dies creating a history of endless war if the avatar of war wins, or bringing peace if the avatar of justice wins, but some can be begin like an avatar of poetry will create legendary poems through out their lives. These avatars will be revered in their temples. Due to their impeccable skills ,the people will believe that these avatars are a manifestation of a deity and scholars and poets might be influence to write about their lives.

I know there is many sphere that are really misc. at times, like I am not sure what an avatar of day would do, but maybe the minor spheres may just become high priest of their own temples and gather more believers. My suggestion may have holes when it comes to more obscure spheres. I only thought of major spheres, like war, death, Justice, peace, and chaos. If  does this it would get gods to influence the world to their sphere creating a very colorful history once our characters jumps into the world learning about the legendary Military tactician who is on a campaign to conquer the world, or hear stories of an avatar of courage going deep into a fallen fortress  to slay a forgotten beast.

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / What are some good Role-playing ideas.
« on: December 22, 2019, 06:03:54 pm »
I really want to know any good RP ideas. Currently roleplaying as a human vampire who woke up naked in a world where all civilization had fallen a 1000 and all that is left are the ruins of massive towns. Her quest is to find out who she was, all in while  finding the 12 dragons that had brought the world to an end and killing them.

10
In the game you can't really go into a town and talk to the locals about the town's history. I always I wanted to know more about the town like 'In 764 the former lady of this town died, her eldest son succeeded after her death.' or '545 an Army of said Civilization laid siege to our town. We held our ground.' I am kind of surprise there is no way to get these type of information from in-game conversation. I don't really think it's hard to implement since sites have history it's just that we don't have a way to get those information without using 'surrounding areas' which talks about nearby regions and sometimes other civilization's battles but never a more specific information about a site's history.

I want to share my method to creating your own unique character sprites for adventure mode. This a guide for those like me who wants to see their visioned character alive in the world.

1.Use your favorite graphics. I recommend Gemset, meph, and vettlinger because they have distinct adventurer sprites. If you use any other graphics you might need to manually implement them in.

2.Get a photo editor, preferably Paint.net.

3.edit the existing .png and make your character look how you envision them.

4.save that .png and put it in the region you want that character to be  at.

bonus: if you want to have multiple unique adventurer in a party you can edit animal man since some are rare to nonexsitent and simply retire them at a location and have your adventurer go and retrieve them. Now you can have your very own dnd adventure!

I felt like sharing this to people who are like me and want to make a story using unique looking character.

DF Suggestions / There should be procedurally generated food recipes.
« on: July 11, 2019, 06:22:36 pm »
Food like music, poetry, and art can tell A lot about a culture by seeing what they put in their food  we can see what type of ingredient they value and with that information we can in dwarf fortress mode create a strong trading partner over these ingredients. Like if a civ value Dingo meat for their favorite dish you can have a party of hunters hunting dingos in order to supply that civ dingo meat creating a strong bond with that civ making them less likely to attack you. This would truly create another layer to the world with seeing two of the same race developing diffrent taste bud according to their environment or foreign influence. Having one  elevn civ have a plant base diet while the same race from a different civ might develop a more carnivore/omnivore type of diet.

For adventure mode this will allow for us to be a chef and maybe after the spells or villain update we can as adventurers open up a shop( even though it would be boring  having that option just makes the world more deep) and have this pseudo-mode (Shop mode?). Making new recipe influencing how a civ eat, and maybe have a food competition randomly happen and you can participate in them.

Adding food recipe to the game can bring more depths to the game, allow us to bond with possibly hostile civ and nullify  their aggrisive territory expansion giving us more ways to influence a civ as an adventurer and  possibly birthing a new type of mode(¿shop mode? )This feature is a must to dwarf fortress and in my opinion should be top priority after the villain update is out.

I enjoy playing Ghibli 8 bit songs. They give the world of dwarf fortress some kind of mysticm and  adventure and the 8 bit just fits the graphics.

DF Modding / I need help adding graphic art to modded in races.
« on: June 28, 2019, 03:41:37 pm »
I want to add graphics to races from aeramore expansion mod. How do I do it?

15
I wonder what y'all think would be cooler? To engage in complicated ship combat where you have to buy or create cannon ball find gunpowder and men  to assign jobs on the diffrent part of the ship and you'll encounter pirates or being unfortunate to have to go against a civ armada. Or a simple boat combat where like final fantasy you have enemies spawn on your boat and you have to fight them. I prefer the complicated ship combat even if it takes 3 years to make. It would very cool to have the ability to be a pirate and it could be it's own guild with their hideouts being in  small islands that are no larger than 4 tiles.
