making this up as i go along,

You awake in a small eddy, spinning you forever in circles. You know not from where you came, nor how you came to be here.
You relax into the calm water as you look around you and make out your surroundings. You're lying in one of the only calm spots
of water, all around you water rushes past you, to cascade down an inmeasurable waterfall. The walls are smooth rock, with no
openings except for a small patch of dry rock near you and a slightly larger patch across the raging river.

You are completely naked except for a plain, gray loincloth.

You gaze about yourself as you ponder your name and your purpose.

Who are you?

You awake on cold stone, your eyes quickly adjust to the pitch-blackness and you see as if it was day.
You're in a natural cave of some sort, you're a male dwarf, naked all over except for your patchy beard. There's a jumble of junk in one corner of the cave and an exit in another. What do you do?

Your thoughts are black; dark and hazy.
You struggle to move your arm.
Eventually you push yourself from the ground and dust yourself off.
You are naked.
Looking around yourself, you are standing
Along a stony, paved, road
in what seems like the an inner-city slum.
What seems like sewage is lying in ditches
beside the road.

Wooden two-story shanties line the road
Leaning upon each other, threatening to
Fall over and collapse. A number of doors
lead off the road and into house.

Two thoughts come to your mind.

Where am I?

Who am I?

What do you do?

You wake up in a dank, dark cave, the floor is
wet mud and the walls are rough, gray granite.

You get up and walk outside. Outside there is a small
camp-fire in a wooded clearing next to the cave, four
tents dot the clearing around the fire. 4 clear paths
exit the clearing.

You look at yourself, you seem to recognise that you're
human.  Then you wonder who you are, and where you are.

You are naked.
What do you do?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Upcoming GURPS Game.

So, I have about a page and a half of notes on the setting, but I'm going to post a description of the setting now so you guys can suggest things and stuff. Anyway.

The Victorian Era lasted from 1837 until 1901. It brought with it the Industrial Revolution, great advances in transportation, medicine and sanitation improvements. But with this it brought great poverty throughout England, abuse of child labor and rampant prostitution. You will be dropped into a slightly romanticised version of this, it will mostly be historical with a few fantasy elements thrown in - mostly the stuff of legends (i.e. Werewolves). Fighting will take a smaller role in the game, with extra rewards being given out for diplomatic actions. There will be mostly custom classes, not many, I'm thinking of 4 or 5. Instead of classical class names I'm aiming for slightly more poetic names. Right now the classes I have are Gentleman, Musician, Brute and Surgeon.

The Gentleman is a character of grace and nobility. Well, on the surface anyway. With this class you have many choices of what your character should be, a smooth talking assassin? A charismatic thief? Perhaps a true gentleman. A gentleman would use rapier-like swords, small daggers, small pistols and their own charisma. The female title for this class would be Lady.

The Musician is a character of refinement and class. Underneath however, your character could be any number of things, a sly womaniser or a true musician. Musicians would use small daggers, pistols and at times their own instruments. Musicians could use their music to empower allies, while attacking his enemies, either by stunning, confusing or scaring them. At higher levels he can injure his opponents.

The Brute is a character of raw power and brutality. They could be bar brawlers, mercenaries, hunters, bandits and thieves.  A brute could use any number of weapons from longsword and spears to hammers, maces and their own fists.

The Surgeon would be the healer character. They can heal their allies using their skills and medicine, while they could use saws, hacksaws and knives to attack enemies. They can also - finding enough ingredients - make potions to sell, whether the potions heal, damage or are just drugs are dependent on what you find.

Anyway, still working on it. Feel free to suggest things.

Play With Your Buddies / Lets Play! Europa 1400: The Guild
« on: February 21, 2010, 12:02:42 am »
I'm going to have a try at an LP of this game, one of my favourite games. Fairly old, there is a newer sequal out but I do not have it, I also do not have the games expansion. Anyway, one we go!

But what is the Guild? Wikipedia sums it up best.

Quote
Europa 1400: The Guild (also titled Europa 1400 or The Guild) is a simulation game  set in Europe from the year 1400 up to 1815. In it, the player tries to guide a family dynasty to power and wealth, starting from one character of limited means. Players can choose from a variety of initial businesses (including iron smith, tavern, church and thieves' guild) and historic cities (including Berlin and London). As the family business and social standing grows, more options become available, even high political rank.

But first things first!

You and your family settled in a large city in Europa, which was it?

What is your and your families name?

Ever since you were a child you looked upon the rich and noble in the world and yearned to be them, that is your goal.

Also, I need names for the children as we have them. I will keep at least 3 names at all times of both genders. Suggest names.
First Child Male Name: Max
First Child Female Name: Mary
Second Child Male Name: Andrew
Second Child Female Name: Jane
Third Child Male Name: Mark
Third Child Female Name: Catherine

General Discussion / Where I adventure.
« on: December 14, 2009, 12:57:44 am »
Well, recently I got back from Tasmania. Names omitted where appropriate.

Getting up at 5AM I got ready to leave to our meeting place. My bags packed the night before by my Mum. Most of the ~60 other kids, most friends, were already there by the time I arrived at 20 past 5. At about 5 30 we got on the bus and left for Sydney Domestic Airport, a little longer than 2 hours the drive had an air of apprehension about it. We arrived at the airport and quickly got our luggage, we checked in and got through security before finally being herded onto the plane. My first time flying I had pretty much no problems, albeit I didn't like feeling like I was dropping at times. I was pretty lucky to sit next to two girls who had no fear of flying.

A little under 2 hours later we arrived in Launceston were we got our bags and boarded the bus, we went to a nearby little village where we went to a beautiful bakery and had pies and sausage rolls, along with things like milkshakes and the like. After lunch we wandered around the village and boarded the bus again, next we went to Woolmers Estate. There we were given a tour of the historic estate, after the tour we wandered around the grounds, including the rose garden. After this we went to cataract gorge were most of us took the chairlift across, the longest single span one at 308m. At the other side I saw a couple of animals, a lot of peacocks and a couple of wallabies. We left and went to were we were staying, we stayed at a motel. The girls and boys were separated into different groups of rooms and 4 shared a room. At 6:30 we had dinner, we all chose one of two main courses and one of two desserts; chicken and beef, or cheesecake and fruit salad. I had beef and cheesecake.  We had to be in our rooms by 9:30. Obviously almost none of us followed that.

The next day we had breakfast, a large buffet of cereal, bacon, eggs and the like. I had a plate of scrambled eggs and a plate of bacon, along with 2 glasses of orange juice and tea. Dilmah, black – no sugar. We left the motel at about 8:30 and drove to Sheffield via Deloraine. Sheffield was a rural town with fantastic cafes and bakeries, covering the walls of towns buildings were murals depicting the history of the area. We left Sheffield and traveled for hours until we got to Cradle Mountain Visitor Center. Where we walked around the national park and walked around Dove Lake. We were showed why the mountain is called 'Cradle' Mountain. The guides showed us an amazing stump, an average sized stump that was 1000 years old – it had no growths marks because the tree was a King Billy, they grow so slow you can't see them. We went on the bus and traveled to our next accommodations, Tullah Lakeside Chalets. The rooms were divided into 4 'wings', 3 of which our group stayed in. I stayed in the worst wing, however we had the largest room. We had a bench, 3 bunk beds, a toilet, shower and a sink. We had started with 3 people in the room, ended with 'officially' 5 people. At one point there was about 30-40 people packed into the room and by the time we fell asleep we had 11 in there. We had a dinner of chicken schnitzel with chips and vegies along with a dessert of icecream on applepie with fruit salad.

The next day we only had a choice of bread and cereal for breakfast before we headed of again. The third day was the longest day with hours of boring bus rides. We passed through Queenstown where it had one of two gravel football fields in Australia – the other in Coober Pedy. Queens town had sparse vegetation around because of the mining that went on there. We passed through before we came to see “The Wall of Wilderness” along with other sculptures by Greg Duncan. They were all of fantastic wooden carvings, the clothing looked like you could take it off the rack and put it on. The wall was a currently 100m wall that depicted the history of the area, the wall was about 10m high. It was planned to be 300m long. We continued on to Lake St Claire where we had a packed lunch and walked around the lake and the area before we drove to Mt Field National Park where we walked through the forest to a pretty large waterfall called Russell Falls. We travelled onward to just outside Hobart where we stayed at  riverfront villas. Most of use stayed in rooms that 4 people could go in each, however there was a Coach House and a Mansion where people stayed, 8 and 11 respectively. That night was probably the scariest of the whole trip.

As was usual every night people came to our villa, where 3 other guys stayed with me. We hung out with a couple girls until 9:30 where they went back to their own cabin. We talked until about 11:30-12, before then some drunk 20 year olds started trying to freak out the girls, knocking on windows and the like. Eventually the police came and they stopped. After that two girls came back into our room and we hung out. I was laying on the lounge and passed out at about 2. I woked up at 3 with one of the girls tapping me with fear in her voice telling me that “There's something wrong with [NAME], she won't wake up.” I got up quickly and went into the bedroom where she was asleep, the others were trying to get her to wake up. She was obviously breathing, so the other girl called the teachers on the rooms phone. She came quickly and we were shooed out of the room (apart from the other girl). Eventually the ambulance was called and arrived. One teacher asked us to tell them what happened while two others were in the room with the girl. I was asleep so I couldn't help, however I found out what happened. About 15minutes after I passed out the girl fell asleep, so the others sat around talking until a couple minutes later, one of them claim, that the door opened and a black figure ran out.

A few more minutes later the girl ran outside, eyes closed, across the road before running back, opening the door and back into the room she fell asleep in. They went in and checked and she was sleeping peacefully. So they went back into the lounge room and discussed what happened. They went in and checked her again however she wasn't sleeping peacefully. She was breathing erratically, her fists were clenched and you couldn't open them, her eyes were shut tight and you could not open them. She was in the fetal position shaking and whimpering. The others kept comforting her and every few minutes she started resting peacefully before shaking and whimpering again. Eventually they decided to get help, they woke me up and rang our teachers, who then rang the ambulance who came and checked on her. An hour later she woke up in the hands of our teacher. She says she has no memory of what happened, she was as scared as we all were. They stayed and checked on her for another our before they took them to their own rooms to get some sleep. The people I stayed with tried to get some sleeping but I only got 2 hours before I woke up for breakfast. Remember that one person that thought he saw the black figure? At breakfast his story changed to it being a little girl. After someone else asked if it was. :|

General Discussion / Strange Creature I found
« on: November 25, 2009, 11:03:51 pm »
So I was walking down at out local (saltwater) lake today, and came across these strange... Marine creatures. I was able to capture them and well, they look nothing like I've ever seen before.

Sorry for the crappy picture.

It's difficult to tell but they're blue, but at night they look kinda green, and about 3-5cm long. When you poke them they curl up into a ball and back, their undersides are white. On each of their right sides they have this clear curly appendage of some sort, sticking out of them.

Does anybody have a clue what they are? I'd like to know for curiosities case, I'm contemplating emailing pictures of them to the head of Biological Sciences at the local uni, just so I know what they are.

Play With Your Buddies / RTW:EB - Cassae - AAR/RP
« on: November 16, 2009, 03:29:52 am »

Flames flickered before me in the raging fire. Around me sat my two brothers, both excellent fighters and commanders. Around us sat advisors and
commanders, war was coming and we knew. Tribes from the north and west had cornered us in this little corner of Briton. A shaky peace has existed
between us, yet our agents have infiltrated and reported a build up of forces on both sides.

Before recalling my brothers our forces were scattered, small groups of soldiers loyal to I, roamed the countryside. My brothers gathered them and
marched for our capital. They came inside our great city, they protect us. Yet it is not enough, from outside we fear the besieging of our great capital
from those that seek to enslave us. We shall not let this happen!

Our family is small, but we are strong. I am the son of Caradog, the former High King.

I am Barae, I am a proud veteran. A proud warrior, as all Cassae born should be. I am a man.

I am the youngest of 3, my brother, Senata is set to inherit the kingship after me. He is stern, yet likes a drink.

The eldest, Margorix, is the most devout of us. He is inspirational and diplomatic.

Our small forces, consolidated at our capital, are not enough.

Barae stood up, “Brothers. I have gathered you here to ask for your advice. Roads are being built, troops recruited. Our spies have told me of heavy
defenses at our closest enemies and our diplomat has gone overseas to gain help. This tenuous peace between are neighbours is too end. Our forces
are currently small, so I ask you, what shall we do?”

OOC: So this is a kind of successive game of RTW:EB described here: http://www.bay12games.com/forum/index.php?topic=44662.0
it will be RP, descriptions of battles and turns must include a small RP description and pictures. 2 generals are currently up for grabs as seen above,
PM for your choice and I'll say if you get the character in this thread. First in first served, if you miss out you can grab an agent (1 diplomat, 1 spy).
You can also grab a regular warrior and RP him or perhaps an advisor.

House Rules:
No Cheats
If you're not the faction leader don't fuck with it.
Don't play others battles.
Don't ruin the save for others - unless you have an RP reason for it.

Play With Your Buddies / Interest for idea?
« on: November 11, 2009, 05:45:24 am »
So, an idea.

Using Rome: Total War, the mod RTR:PE (for BI), it'll be a campaign where a person would take over a general (or captain). I'll generally play the campaign and request/command the generals, however each turn I'll assign funds from towns owned by the general for them to recruit troops with (they'll tell me what troops to choose), when the generals get attacked or attack an enemy, the game will be saved and the save will be sent to the player to fight out the battle how they wish. The save will be sent back to me and then go from there. When the faction leader dies (who will start out to be me), the person who is the faction heir will then command the campaign from there. Anyone interested? Additions? Questions?

I'd like to DM a DnD game, but, I've never DM'd before, so bear with me. Would anyone be up for a relatively short beginner campaign? I'd accept the first 5 people to join (I'd have a character). Regular fantasy setting, DnD 3.5e, Core Rules. Semi-regular meetings, hoping for weekly 2-3 hour sessions. You can use this for classes/races/spells etc. You can use this to gen your character. Albeit the beginning campaign will be short, one dungeon long, if/when we complete one we'll go to a next campaign, using the same characters (or different). Maybe working my way up to a custom world. Anyway, we'll be using GameTable to play. More details will follow when we have enough people joined.

I will PM the people on the waiting list soon. Or if you guys wanna make up your own groups of at least 4 players, go ahead.

Play With Your Buddies / Lets Play! Sid Meier's Pirates!
« on: July 15, 2009, 05:22:43 am »
So here I am, starting a Pirates! LP. Anyway:
Starting Difficulty: Adventurer
Skill: Wit/Charm
Starting Date: 1640.

Hello there. I am Ozymandias, most likely you've heard of chapters of my stories, perhaps scraps of it. Know this, I am Ozymandias, King of Kings, God of Caves, Chosen of Armok, Wizard. Now it is my turn to tell a story, a story of how I gained my latest title. King of Pirates.

I gained this title not in my first incarnation, where I became a God and the Chosen. No. I gained this some many years, many many millennium into the future. I was born to some family, they do not matter, I was a normal child in my first years, for then I did not know my destiny. Sometime later, when I was in my teenage years, 13 or 14, I had a peculiar dream. In it Armok appeared to me...

On top of some sort of platform I was, surrounded by a red mis I could not penetrate. The red, metallic floor fest incredibly smooth. In front of me was a throne, on it a black, humanoid mass. It said to me:

"I am Armok boy. For eons you were my chosen, for each of your incarnations you have served me. Going back to your earliest, when the vicious elves and sturdy Dwarves walked the earth. There you raided and pillaged in my name, you forged a great empire as the God of Caves...

But lets focus on the now. You, are Ozymandias, worthy of everything. Your destiny this millennia is to raid and pillage like times of yore."

This was when I woke up, renewed by a sense of purpose I trained myself, in sword fighting and all manner of things. My tongue becamse as sharp as my sword, I learnt sailing and captaining in a small fishing fleet. Finally I was 18, ready to please Armok. I went to the local tavern, they were signing people up for service. The year was 1640, a time for war, a war for profit. I went unto the bartender, looking for passage. Apparently I had to sign things. Thus I did.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

The man led me to a small group of tables, sitting at them were recruiters for various ships. There was exactly four recruiters. One for each major power in the carribean: The Spanish, The English, The Dutch, and The French....
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Which should I pick?
