DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / My marksdwarves are not equipping ammo in the Steam version

I've created a custom uniform that only has "any crossbow" assigned as weapon, and assigned this to a squad. They equip their crossbows, their quivers, but then refuse to equip any ammunition. I've also noticed that the ammo management screen has vanished in the Steam version, so maybe that's the cause?
Anyway, anyone having the same problem? Anyone managed to solve it? Or am I just dumb?
