DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Debugging tips for crashing saves?

I have a bugged save here http://dffd.bay12games.com/file.php?id=14079 that crashes after 2 minutes. I added it in a comment on http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=10880.

Are there any standard debugging tips to try to work around crashes? I saw somewhere someone suggested forbidding everything; I tried that, crash still occurred.

Are there other things to try? Is there a general list of debugging steps somewhere?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Outsider seeking to take an artifact?

This is new to me. My seach-fu is weak and I can't find anything about this mechanism on the wiki.

A visiting marksdwarf is asking to take one of my artifacts (I presume?) to fulfill his quest.

What are the upsides and downsids here? I know giving away an artifact will make the creator unhappy, but I'm actually not sure which artifact this is or who it belongs to.

DF Gameplay Questions / Do trees block vision?

I was just about to build up a little pillbox tower for my marksdwarves to keep a lookout from. The biome I'm in is heavily forested, though, so I'm wondering now if trees will block their vision/range? I mean a lot of the trees will eventually come down, but I'm curious if I need to start cutting now.

DF Gameplay Questions / What does "Force" mean in the relationships list?

I have a vampire, so I'm going through everyone looking for suspiciously long relationship lists, and came across an elf poet with "Olova Amethaceca" listed as "Force":



Anyone know what this means? I haven't come across it before.

DF Gameplay Questions / Construction from a specific direction

So back in the day (last played in 0.34-ish), I used to use the suspended-construction method of getting the dwarves to not stand in a specific spot when constructing walls. That doesn't seem to work in 0.42.

I see the wiki about this hasn't been updated, either.

Is there a method that works?
