To paraphrase that... "OH. MY. GOSH!"

DF Bug Reports / Absolutely Bizzare Crash
« on: November 07, 2007, 06:01:00 pm »
I was scanning through one of my towers when I saw one room completely covered in items. I examined closer and found that they were clothes. The room's cabinet was also full of clothes. The peasant to whom the room belonged was in bed with her child and when I checked her inventory she was completely naked...
All that's strange enough, but I checked back a few minutes later, the clothes were still on the floor but when I checked on the peasant she was fully dressed. The second I opened her Inv, the game crashed. Damn! I want my hours back  :(

Anyone got any idea what could have caused that? I think it seems too much of a coincidence that I was examining a "Magic, Undressing Peasant" the instant the game crashed but I can't think of any logical reason as to why it would cause the game to do so...

Ta'!

DF Suggestions / Hired Help
« on: November 30, 2006, 05:58:00 pm »
Another kinda military themed idea is mercenaries. In my less competent forts I always get a little jealous seeing caravans marching in with what look like armies of swordsmen. I think it'd be pretty neat if you could hire mercenaries in a similar way to the way you buy animals. Perhaps buying a contract rather than a wooden cage containing a pissed-off soldier. The contracts could be fairly expensive and require yearly renewing.
Mercenaries should start off arround competent or proffessional level but should develop mucgh slower than regular dwarves so as to keep things ballanced. And of course there's always the chance of a tussle between the local military and your "hired help".

DF Suggestions / "Well, I don't want to do THAT again..."
« on: November 30, 2006, 05:51:00 pm »
I don't suppose I'm the only one who's annoyed by the fact that my soldiers tend to spend arround 400,000 seasons recovering from broken hands after sparring accidents gone wrong. Now, personally, I like this but when half your military is calling in sick due to bruised ankles it does get on your nerves. I'm not proposing Toady change or nerf the system, but I do think there should be some sort of benefit, like an extra rank in toughness, shield or armour proficiency to represent the dwarf learning form his mistake. Of course, in ym fortress, after a couple of seasons all my soldiers would become indestructilbe super-gods...
What do you think?

DF Suggestions / Tithe to the Underking!
« on: February 04, 2007, 03:55:00 pm »
How's about the parent civilization makes demands of our fortresses every once in a while? It would work something like the preferred trading items only failing to fulfill the demands would result in less trade, less immigration and possible conflict. I think it would make the game more challenging and interesting. What do you think?
Incentives might be gifts of rare materiels, soldiers, artifacts etc.

DF Suggestions / Economy Expansion
« on: January 04, 2007, 06:42:00 pm »
Right now all the economy does is allow my dwarves to buy over-priced rubbish to litter their floors/containers with. Sure, there's rent, but how does the economy actually impact on the game right now? I suggest that the economy is expanded to include aspects of dwarf life other than shopping. I say dwarves should be charged for the food and drink they consume, parties they attend, etc. Also, how's about dwarves getting evicted if they can't keep up with their rent?
To fix the huge piles of coins I have lying everywhere why not give each dwarf a purse than remains on their bodies. This would let them pick up the scattered ones and twos of coins relatively painlessly and allow them to have their money at hand at all times for transactions.

DF Suggestions / Fortifications?
« on: January 04, 2007, 06:28:00 pm »
This isn't so much a suggestion as a question. I can see very well that fortifications allow my crossbowdwarves to fire out of my fortress. This is presumably through slits in the rock. However, are incoming shots impeded in any way?
During a recent siege I witnessed goblin arrows flying right through my fortifications as if they were butter and landing in one of my sworddwarves as if he was meat.
Does this happen to everyone else or were the goblins I was fighting eagle-eyed sniper maniacs capable of firing diagonally through straight slits, presumably rebounding from wall to wall several times before sticking a dwarf.
I guess my suggestion would be to make a percentage of incoming arrows stick in the fortifications.
What do you guys think?

DF Suggestions / Random Acts of Violence
« on: January 01, 2007, 07:12:00 pm »
Here's a "feature" that I strongly believe should be implemented as soon as possible.
I have come to notice that my police forces really don't do much. Other than gibbing kobolds and locking up psycho-dwarves during "dog-die-season" they do even less than my armed forces.
I propose that if a dwarf who is suitably unhappy takes a drink there will be a small chance that he will go into a rage. (Perhaps also if the tax collector attempts to steal his shiny coins?)
This will give my guards something to do and more importantly allow drunken brawls to take place in my fortress.

Slaves to Armok: God of Blood / LSTAR's Spring Cleaning
« on: January 18, 2008, 09:37:00 am »
I played StA:1 recently. I broke my bow on a rabbit's head and walked about for a bit. I liked the way you could get a description of things' internal organs. That was nice.

Okay! I admit it! I was just tired of seeing qwertyuiopas' name here all the time! I will have my immortality!

(And I'm well aware of the irony, and that that's not in reference to what you think it is...)
