DF Gameplay Questions / Thawing Machinery

Does anyone know if it's currently possible to thaw out frozen windmills/screw pumps etc? It would be nice to be able to use windmills on my glacier fort...

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / First Caravan from the Holds... and one Elf

So, my first caravan arrived, slightly before I was really ready for it, but that's fair enough. Then I noticed something slightly odd about my Dwarven Outpost Liason. Rather a tall chap... fairly skinny looking... pointy ears. Hang on a carping second...

 Somehow, my Outpost Liason, from the Dwarfholds, is an Elf.

Any suggestions as to how? I've heard of snatched Children with Goblin forces... but an Elf with a position in Dwarven society?
