DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / My Fort is full of necromancers

Within my first two immigration waves I got three necromancers, already revealted, enyas and all- whats going on?

DF Gameplay Questions / Mud turning rock to dirt

I had a bit of a leaky staircase for a while, and by the time I got it all sealed off, my stairs had all grown cave fungus, as had some floors around them. So I build some constructions to clear the mud off, only to find, the previously stone staircase has been turned to silty clay loam. This is less than ideal. I want stone staircases, and didn't particularly want to have to build them all manually. Is there any way to fix this? A few drops of water should not convert an entire granite staircase into dirt.

And if there's no in-game way, can anyone explain how to use dfhack to fix it? I can't seem to get it to change anything.

This Axe Lord has been lying at in the cavern for a year now. His ghost is haunting me, hasn't caused any trouble but...why won't they bury him? He's not the only one, either, my staircase are littered with troglodyte and lycanthrope corpses.



Dwarves Gather Refuse and Dwarves Gather Refuse From Outside are both on. The Dragon corpse /was/ moved, for example, but the Giantess right next to it was not, to say nothing of now four unburied dwarves. My refuse stockpile has lots of room, too, and no orders set.

My craftdwarf workshops don't appear to have anything that says instruments. Where do I find them?

I don't imagine they'd make them immune or anything, but maybe some kind of defense? It doesn't seem anachronistic.

DF Gameplay Questions / New controls

The new DF has lots of menu options that weren't there before, but the hotkey listed for me on, for example, choose symbol art the embark screen, or the "view unit" and "view job" options on the unit list, is just a ?. Hitting ? brings up help, like always.

May be related to my other thread?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Shy Goblins?

So I'm now finishing off the Autumn of year 3 at a single fortress. A single squad of goblins attacked me, giving me a "vile force of darkness" instead of an ambusher warning, way back in my 2nd summer, but since then I've hit 80, and had three more migration waves to boot, now I'm at 120, and still no siege. Not that I mind the time to finish my castle, but I am hoping to finish it sooner or later. Is this a bug, or just the RNG going soft on me?

Despite having something like 300 bars of charcoal, much of it visible in my stockpile, (I checked), my magma smelters are giving me a "no fuel" error when I ask for steel. They have magma, I've been using them for years.

I'm assuming fortifications will keep climbers off of my roofs if I put them out over the edge, but I hope I can get somebody to confirm it works before a siege comes, heh.

Worms keep puttering around in my food stockpile, despite it being solid obsidian and everything barreled up. Could they be coming from the roof? It might be loam, but I was under the impression the game didn't notice such things.

Is necks being chopped off new in 40, or am I just noticing it? While awesome, I'm pretty sure its definitely impossible to throw someone's neck ten yards away and still have both their heart and their skull in the piece you've got.

An awful lot of creatures are just not reacting to my presence at all. A pack of wolves and thrips people let me kill them one by one without so much as budging from their spots.

All my legendary soldiers started naming their stupid non-nethercap shields. Can I forbid them, and they'll just leave the old shields in the piles forever while they make new legends with their new magically cold shields?
