DF Adventure Mode Discussion / I think i'm doing genocide?

Getting back into the game for the first time in years, and I see that there's a ton of new options available for adventure mode, so I roll up something called an As' Demon(?) I'm just messing around, so I went to a village and killed a sleeping human. It took a long time, but the human never woke up, and then I picked up his iron pick, and I've been going around one shooting everyone by taking out their neck with the pick, and nobody is waking up. Did I stumble on some kind of bug, or am I just really quiet?

I've been thinking of getting back in to DF after being gone for a few years, what kind of big changes are there now? I think the last major change that I saw was the introduction of carts, and the reworking of weight and move speeds.

wooden weapon traps are much better than steel because wooden traps don't kill the goblins and clog up the mechanism, but it does wound them enough to force them to run.

a lot of my dreams are about death, either me dieing, killing someone, or someone close to me dieing.
one example was last night were i turned a witch into a rat because she was immune to all my other spells and stabbed her to death with my pencil. other dreams involve me getting shot to death by nazis, getting dismembered by pacific islanders, and getting hit in the head by a brick. and in some dreams, after i die i go through a different after life, usually involves me roaming the world. Is this normal?

When I don't have food readily available, it is not hungry; however, when I do have food available, it is no longer hungry. Also, and this is the major one, when I lay down to go to sleep, my body won't let me sleep till 3 or 4 in the morning, then it starts bitching to me about how it didn't get enough sleep.
How much longer until I can just cut out my brain and put it into another body that isn't so annoying or, if all bodies are like that, a robot?

Is it possible to mod axles to be able to be made of iron so I can have magma safe axles? And if so, can someone tell me how, I have no experience with modding at all. Thanks in advance.

You're just walking along when suddenly you are 100% aware of how insignificant you are. You realize how you are just a speck of dust compared to the universe and that any thing you do will always be blown away in a cosmic instant. Later the whole instance then feels like it was just a dream.
Does anybody else have these feelings or am I just weird?

I spent hours designating and building a windmill farm, and right when I get it all finished a vile force of darkness comes with trolls. It was at this time that I remembered I forgot to place walls around the gears, so now the trolls that came with the goblins are just having a field day destroying the gears while the goblins get butchered on my traps.

I'm not asking what after-life you think is the correct one, because I honestly don't care what is correct, just what you would wish to spend eternity doing.
I wish that the Norse had it right, battling all day and feasting all night while waiting for Ragnarok.

The Stray Horse (Tame) has died of old age.
I have never had anything die of old age before, either my fort doesn't last long enough or they die of other causes. This isn't even my oldest fort, only 7 years.

I'm not that great when it comes to fortress defense, I just wall my self off and rely on the traders to clear up any ambushes. This leads to a lot of undefended gear outside my walls which either the macaques or the kobolds steal. I just got a nice sized immigrant wave which revealed about 7 kobold ambushes and 2 goblin ambushes, and the kobold archers are using steal arrows. There is only one glass maker running around now with just about a whole army chasing after him. It actually looks kind of funny.

on a related note, are ambush kobolds still immune to traps or is it only the thieves?
