DF Gameplay Questions / Ore not hauled - why, oh why ><

Gentledwarfs, I have a problem.

I have idle dwarfs, which I dislike the most. Trying to find a job for them, I decided, that the scattered ore needs to be on a central place. Now, about a 3 later, only SOME ore has been hauled. Why the %&$? are my dwarfs so lazy?
Ore not forbidden, access is there (its in my fricken booze stockpile...), destination reachable, job enabled, dwarfs just idling around.

Would making many small stockpiles for different ores make a difference? I have no Idea what to try next :\
Is this a common problem? I know that I've had exactly that problem some time ago.

DF Gameplay Questions / Selling narrow stuff impossible?

I have to spam the forum again ><...
Gobbos bring me some metric tons of narrow clothing. The metal stuff is melted - of cause.
Now i've read, that everyone trades that stuff for something more useful. But my traders won't take anything of those narrow cloths :(
What am I doing wrong? Do you guys mod the traders to accept it? Do I have to modify in in my fortress (like decorate, if that's possible). Neither elves, nor humans nor dwarfs want that crap.

Again, the wiki doesn't tell me what to do :(

Now that I know about the bonus of personal preference towards item-quality, I look through every dorfs list before assigning jobs. I love optimisations ^^
Question is: Does animal-preference increase the quality of anything that's produced FROM such an animal? In my case: my meat industry will run with cows and I want superior cow-leather items.
One of my dwarfs has "likes nickel silver [...] and cows for their haunting moos". Does it work? Or does he need to have "likes cow-leather" (this preference exists aswell - have seen it with other leather-types).

Help! :)

(or give me an idea, where in the files I could look for that... I have no idea :(... the wiki doesn't know it)

I searched but my keywords didn't get me anywhere... is there a mod out there to turn those messages off? It just breaks my flow when I am doing some exploratory mining with vertical shafts...

DF Gameplay Questions / Carving ramps -> Framerate drops

I have quite a problem with carving ramps. Somehow, i get a really annoying lag whenever my miner tries to remove a ramp/ carve a ramp that somehow changes other ramps.
This Problem occurs in 40d and 40d11 and is driving me crazy.
I am now playing on "Dwarven Heaven" or however you call it (this site posted, that has so many features). It is the first time i really recognise this problem. But now i know about it, i can see it in every game i play.
Everything runs fluent untill the miner removes the ramp, when it stops for like 1/10th or 1/5th of a second.

Is this common? Is there any way to solve/bypass  the problem? Turning caveins off didn't help.

DF Gameplay Questions / Dwarf won't put down "named" Weapon

Hy!

One of my dwarfs is wielding a "named" bone-longsword that i have since the beginning, when one of my guys got hit by a mood. The Problem now is, that i want him to change to a Hammer to train his attributes some more. He is a champion, so i can't just undraft him and draft him again.
 
I tried to forbid it and change the weapon, NOT forbid it and change the weapon, just forbid it etc. He just keeps it.
He now found a hammer, lieing around. He walks towards it, tries to pick it up, shows a questionmark, goes away, turns around, goes back, tries to pick it up again etcetc.

HALP!
(btw... this game is so awesome, when you got a little into it  ;D)
