Is there way with DFhack to remove catatonic?

DF Gameplay Questions / Monarch
« on: February 24, 2019, 04:49:53 pm »
So, according to the wiki, I need to get a metropolis. However, on the page, it says that the fortress needs:

Pop   Jobs: Craft/Metal/Wood/Gem/Stone/Food
140   5 of   50   /50    /50     /20   /50    /50

But what are "jobs"? Is that the amount of tasked jobs at a workshop? The amount of citizens that have that specific job?

DF Gameplay Questions / Magma-Safe Critters
« on: February 22, 2019, 08:27:39 pm »
Are dragons magma-safe?

Other than fire imps and magma crabs, are there any other critters that are magma-safe?

I'm asking for a friend who is definitely not me building a magma moat.

DF Gameplay Questions / [resolved]
« on: January 18, 2018, 05:12:29 pm »
UPDATE:
Adamantine can hide in areas that DFhack's Reveal --thus Prospect-- can not find it. It still exists, but is hard to properly find.

=========================================================================
My map has no adamantine on it at all!?

Is this a fluke? Or does DFhack prospect not pick it up? I searched using reveal, and I could not find a gateway to hell either. My map has no adamantine. There are several black spots on the map that are maybe 22x11 tiles wide.

I embarked on a 5x5 tile map. Having no adamantine is not a huge issue for me, but just odd.

DF Gameplay Questions / Meat Markets, Wall Climbing, and Human Outcasts
« on: January 15, 2018, 03:52:06 pm »
2 questions here:

1) the climbing page on the wiki says that creatures with climbing can climb up a wall and around certain setups. Can a creature climb two z-levels or only one?

2) I embarked on a rainy, mostly warm area with reindeer to get my butchery going, but after several years, the reindeer pair have not produced any offspring. What could cause this? The yaks I bought off the dwarven caravan have been breeding well.

3) I have Rocs. A pair of them that have made quite a handful of Roclings. While they have skills, they are not intelligent and do not have CAN_LEARN. Does this mean it is ethical and allowable for my dwarves to eat butchered Rocs?

4) There was a petition for a lord consort (human) to live in my fortress. He is married to someone, but none of the civilizations have anyone who matches her name. She is not in my fort. How do I look her up?

DF Gameplay Questions / Distraction

DF Gameplay Questions / Alcohol Poisoning?
« on: December 24, 2017, 07:41:00 pm »
I just downloaded the new version and started playing. My dwarves (mostly children) are getting drunk and puking whenever they drink? Is this a bug?

NOTE: I'm not sure if it is cave adaptation yet. The dwarves haven't been underground for more than maybe a bit of a season.

DF Modding / Domestic Rocs
« on: June 20, 2017, 03:43:26 pm »
So over here, in this thread, I had modded rocs to be domestic by adding the [COMMON_DOMESTIC] and [PET] tags to them. I want to create an aerie fortress, and breed rocs (because I can).

However, when the first traders arrived, one of the rocs went ballistic and murdered half of my population before being punched to death.

Is this due to the [MEGABEAST] tag? I tried doing research into it, but I can not find the quote. I have been playing this game for (on and off) 8 years, and I swear I read somewhere that if a megabeast tastes blood, it is forever unable to be a pet. Is this true? What did I do wrong?

ALSO:
My imagination is that the rocs are like giant (real life) ravens: "A small, foreboding black bird that feeds on carrion. It is social, very intelligent, and knows how to use tools". Is this the case? Should I add any tags to the rocs to make them more "intelligent"?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Stray Roc
« on: June 20, 2017, 03:13:22 pm »
Okay, so I did a little bit of modding and added rocs as a creature my civilization has. I started a map, brought a breeding pair of Rocs and everything is going great until the first traders show up.

They go about their business, coming across the river and making it to the depot when suddenly my male roc goes ballistic and murders a child, a yak, a miner and an herbalist before getting put down by the weaver via blunt force trauma to the skull. By the looks of it, the child punched the roc first, causing the whole fight.

What just happened? The combat reports deleted themselves before I could fully understand what happened. The roc received a name, at about the time it died. Is this a megabeast thing/part of the [MEGABEAST] tag? Is there a tag I should remove? This thread has a copy in modding as well now.

Here is the modded section:

Hello fellow DF'ers,

I have been around the forums a long time, and have clocked quite a few hours into the community and even more into the game over the course of many years. I have seen many megaprojects and have tried my hand at quite a few myself (here and here, albeit, those were the only 2 I ever uploaded).

In the recent year or so, I have wanted to dip my toes back into the world of Dwarf Fortress, but I tend to over micromanage the game and I just don't have enough time to put into it. This is where this thread comes into play. I want to set up a fortress that will be able to run with minimal input from a person while still maintaining itself. Growth will come when I assign new tasks for the dwarves to work on. With the power of the forums, I want to know your tips and tricks for successfully maintaining a long running fortress, and how you set up the manager screen (j -> m [if I recall correctly]).

In my future plans, I am going to be soon replacing my motherboard, RAM and processor. They still work, but they are getting old. I was toying with the idea of setting up a headless box (or one hooked up to the TV in the living room) and letting it run cycles in the background. IF I WERE TO DO THIS, what would you recommend for remote login? Is it possible to do a Twitch Plays DF? I want serious feedback on ideas, and I am open to a lot of suggestions.

Thanks,
Althis

Fortress Plan:
Invaders will be turned off for a long period until I get the fortress working, and I remove the kinks involved with learning how to automate it. I will begin military training on pretty soon as well as provide elaborate trapped entrances.

For the most part, I am going to avoid breeding animals due to FPS death. Unless they are giant. Or mythical. Or war trainable. Maybe.

There will be a population limit. However, I want there to be generations within the fortress, so I will need to enact a social program to get dwarves to marry and produce children.

More Information!:
I am not looking for complete FPS saving information. I want the game to run, even if it is slow. I want to make this fortress as self sustaining as possible with as little human interaction as possible.

That being said, I still plan on putting in interactions into the fortress from time to time. The idea is to create some kind of elaborate structure, either/both above ground and below ground. This means that once every few hours, I will log in and make sure that the game is running smoothly. I am leaning towards having the game running on the TV in my living room, so that I can watch it as I'm doing homework or whatever.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / What to do With Non-Butcherable Bodies?
« on: July 10, 2016, 06:35:51 pm »
I have a huge stock of troglodytes that I breed and use for training exercises. However, the bodies still remain and I have no idea what to do with them. I can not butcher them because they have the [CAN_LEARN] tag.

So... What do I do with them?

If you are playing, and you press CTRL + s , a window will open that you can type into. However, nothing seems to happen. What is this? Any ideas?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How to Capture Flying Creatures?
« on: July 04, 2016, 02:07:08 am »
I need the help of some master engineers.

There are flocks of ravens and giant peregrine falcons that wander around my map, and sometimes come near my dwarves. I want to catch as many of them as I can so that I can make an eyrie/aerie.

In all of my years of playing Dwarf Fortress, I have never thought up a working method of capturing giant birds?
