im playing a modded version with df hack included, Unib has all desired materials and started construction of mysterious object, but halfway through it he leaves the workshop. i savescummed and the behavior repeated, there were some keas harassing dwarves and traders nearby, but Unib didnt give me any interruption messages, just lingers by the trade depot blinking purple !.
anybody had similar problems? is this a know bug? possible workarounds?

i made this thead on creative projects, but i figure it needs another one here to reach the right audience

quoting from the other thread:
i'm developping this boardgame, at first for a very abstract art exibition, but now i'm planning to sell this on local street fairs and renaissance fairs, and maybe one day a kickstarter or somming. It's been tested by about 8 people, 6 of wich found it fun

It's a chess-like thingie. Two players on a 8x8 board, with 12 pieces, 6 for each player. There are 6 visually distinct pieces, one for each player, and each piece move in a way only the owner knows, at least at the begnning of the game. As they play, players start to figue out the oponents pieces, and on your first games, it is a good idea to note down the oponents moves. Games tend to be short, so we always played 3 rounds to decide a winner.

I haven't decided on a name, i've thought up the two on the thread title, but i'd apreciate some input. I'm also planning to start a thread on Forum Games, but i'm having trouble finding the time to host a forum game so i'd like to tempt you into setting up a game among yourselves. An arbiter might be useful but i don't think it is needed and i can't afford to be more than a spectator, so, at least two of you would be interested?

I'd post the rules of the game in a more detailed manner, but i don't want to have a huge first post and i'm still writing it all up, so i'll end here.

i'm working on a warcrat 3 mod and a pen and paper tbs. it's set in a low fantasy ancient world with civilizations inspired in iron age scandinavia, classical mediterranean, ancient middle east, and ancient egypt. picking one of these base archetypes, you control the specifics of your own civilization, designing the army you use and choosing social policies, religion, etc.
you start controlling a city state, and conquer cities and villages on a world map, which you manage by distributing their population through several activities: food production, manufacture, infrastructure maintenance, military maintenance, trade, and research
each sufficiently large city will have one or more noble houses, these have relationships between themselves and might hate each other, sometimes forcing you to chose which one you want to favour. these provide nobles that you can employ as city managers, army comanders, diplomats, and ministers\advisors, and these nobles have different atributes: a certain house may ofer a fantastic governor, while it's enemy house has a great general, and employing one will anger the other, etc. these houses can influence the loyalty of the population of the cities they inhabit too, so you might have to go with the house that has no decent noble to offer just to avoid a rebellion
these cities produce different resources based on the terrain they're surrounded by and special resource sites like mineral outcrops, etc.

i'd like to request some suggestions for these resources, these are the ones i came up with

grain - basic food source
fish - basic food source. comes from cities near the sea. food variety increases happiness in cities
beer - basic booze. you can sacrifice part of your food production for this resource, armies carrying it have a boost to their morale and increases happiness in cities
wine - like booze but can only be produced in mountainous areas near the sea and it's moralle boost is higher. it's a luxury item and some nobles demand it
olive oil - food source. improves happiness in cities, but like wine can only be produced near the sea in mountainous areas, but only on temperate or warm lands. it is also a luxury item and some nobles may require it
horses - makes cavalry production cheaper and increases overal city productivity. can be raised in lands surrounded by grassy plains
iron - extracted from iron outcroppings or northern bogs. makes iron equipped armies cheaper and increases overall productivity in cities
copper or tin - like iron, but for bronze equipped armies. productivity increase in cities is smaller
gold and gems - from mineral outcrops, these provide a direct influx of monies to your treasure
smoking herbs - produced in warm woodlands. these provide a great boost in moralle and hapiness to armies and cities, but are highly addictive, and cities and armies introduced to it will suffer a large penalty if deprived of it
wondrous elixir - produced from aromatic herbs and psychotropic herbs from desert oases. these are highly sought after by nobles, but like smoking herbs, are very addictive and once introduced to it the nobles will demand it
eastern silk, northern hides, western expensive dyes, and southern coloured glass - expensive trade goods and luxury items, they boost the happiness in cities and improve the loyalty of your nobles

Forum Games and Roleplaying / You are Frel, the young hunter
« on: June 11, 2011, 06:31:51 pm »
A player in a game of mine is away for a week and relinquished control of his character for the time being. Luckily, the character was away from the main group, so i though i'd give him a little side adventure. this is where you guys come in, you get to suggest which actions he takes, the dice decides how lucky he is, and i translate the fate the dice gives me into game events.

Frel is a thirteen years old boy that belongs to a mesolithic tribe of nomads. As a rite of passage, to prove his maturity and worth to the tribe, he was abandoned with a group of boys his age in the middle of the woods on a mission to bring back trophies from the surrounding lands.
Those trophies would demonstrate one's worth at the job he was raised at; boys raised to be shaman would have to bring a rare herb from a mountain to the north, the boys raised as craftsmen would have to bring a well crafted item made of obsidian, found on a river to the east, and boys raised as warriors would have to bring a bone amulet that the cannibals in the south wear around their necks.
A hunter's trophy would simply be to bring back a successful and well fed group... This is where it gets tricky, Frel has lost himself from the rest of the group and left alone to fend for himself.
Your job is to keep him alive long enough for my player to come back.
__________________________________________________________________________________________

It's Frel's second day on the wild, he is on a thick forest, following a creek downstream. He caries a bow and five stone tipped arrows, and has just hunted a hare. He is uninjured. It's getting late and he is somewhat tired, but there are still some hours until dusk.

13
Your thirteenth winter has passed, and with the spring the rites of passage have started. The tribe celebrated your adulthood and they gave a feast in your honour. After eating as much as you could fit in your stomach, you are left in the wilderness to hone your skills and forbidden to come back to the camp without a worthy tribute to the tribe.

The high shaman and the chief escort you and your companions to a grove. Before they leave, they give you some pointers.
The chief starts:
It is a great honour to face your challenge alone, but it may be also a stupid decision. We live in a tribe because we need each other, and although the warrior may take pride in his strength, it is the hunter that feeds him, and although it is the hunter that feeds, only the crafter possesses the art to make the arrows the hunter needs. Without the shaman's herbs, none would be safe from the spirit of the prey the hunter has slain.
The weather is still cold, make fire to keep yourselves warm. Eat well, you may live many days without food, but your mind and your arm will weaken quickly. Drink every day, it is the water's magic that puts life in your veins, and you will see no more that three dawns if you neglect your thirst.

The shaman also gives you advice
Forget not the spirits, young men, you must pray to the prey you kill, or his meat might poison you, pay your respects to the tree you fell, or it's wood will rot, greet the spirits of the grove you sleep in, or they will summon wolves in the night, and thank the ancestors for the knowledge they gave you when you use the skills you've learnt, they will bless your actions. Let not their lenience fool you, they may not punish your first mistake, but they don't forget, and when their wrath descends upon you, you will regret not having listened to me.

To the north there is the mountain from where all creeks descend, it's white mountaintop is thawing. There grows the flower that young mothers take to withstand the pains of birth, this is an acceptable tribute for a shaman, and if you're in pain, you will also find use for them. The creeks tumble down coarse stones, they are of little use to us, but if you follow one of those creeks to east you will find a stream that brings black stones from further north, these flake very sharply and are very useful, a fine object made of these stones makes an acceptable tribute for a crafter, and when your arrows run out you will certainly find use for these. Following the stream to the south lives a tribe of ugly men, but they decorate themselves with beautiful bone trinkets. They will ambush you, and they will eat you if they catch you, but they don't use arrows, fight them with spears, for they will be to close to draw your bow when you see them attacking. A trophy of bone trinkets is proof of a warrior's might, and a warrior's might is a good tribute to the tribe. Feeding you well is enough tribute from a hunter, return alive and with all your tributes by the end of the spring, and testify that your hunters fed you well, and we will say their tribute has been given to the tribe. We shall leave now, you must not return to the camp before you possess one of each tribute, and all of you that are still alive possess your tributes, even if you have to kill the incompetents yourselves.

ok, the game has started, choobakka and psycho jelly havent replied in a while so i'm not counting on them
currently on game are mocman, yoink, and me, i'm willing to take two more players.

there are no properly defined rules, but here are a few general guidelines
- you can write whatever you want, but respect what has been written before you
- do not kill or otherwise directly control the other player characters without their consent
- you can contest what someone writes, either because it breaks some guidelines, or because you generally don't like it, this guideline exists to prevent bad roleplaying like mary sueism, etc, and to keep the setting to the liking of everybody, the points contested are then debated by all the players, and all the players should try to reach a consent
- we're here to have fun, try not to antagonize anybody, specially when invoking the above mentioned guideline

original OP:
i don't know what you guys would call this, i want to play a game where i can contribute to the story in more that a mechanical sentence describing the actions of my character, but i don't want to be the game master either.

i'm in the mood for either a post apocalyptic fantasy a la darksun or a paleolithic\early bronze age setting, where magic is rare and mysterious. for example, superstitions make sense, but there is no fireball throwing wizard class.

we'll start like this in the first posts: we'll describe in broad strokes the setting we're in, as if we were all game masters, then we'll each define a character and start adventuring.

anybody up for it? i propose we start with only four people, if anybody else is interested enough we can add them later.
ingame posts shall be typed in bold, OOC posts shall be typed in regular font. ingame posts at least should be written in proper english.
