This is the first time I have played in many many months. (Haven't played since minecarts and only briefly after vampires.) I've been wondering if world gen has substantially changed.
So I've been playing on this world for a few days and have several shale layers and various other layers below. I found it odd how all I could find was magnetite and black opals. I pulled out DFHack and did a reveal. Apparently every shale layer is _ONLY_ magnetite large clusters and black opal small clusters. Beneath that are diorite layers containing ONLY prase small clusters, gneiss layer containing ONLY rose quartz and so on. With finally from Z 58 down to the magma sea around Z 145, layers of granite with ONLY native silver veins and and clusters of yellow zircon and clusters of honey yellow beryl.
Is this normal now? Is variety in stone layers gone? Or is this just a bug and I should re-gen. I mean its nice I will have infinite iron to make steel with as soon I can build a pump stack from the magma sea (I'll have to burn wood for a while), but this feels all rather like cheating in a way.
Also, are magma pools no longer on every map? I seem to remember you were guaranteed one every map (or I was always very lucky).
