So this is going to be something of an old-school Godhood game with only a few modifications to the standard formula. The following rules apply:

  • Each day (measured from Midnight Eastern Time), each god receives one Act as long as they have at least one active worshiper.
  • Each God starts the game with 3 acts.
  • So long as a single worshipper of them remains, a god cannot be destroyed. Even if they are forgotten, a god can only be destroyed by another god spending an Act to consume their Essence. This adds that god's Authorities to the consuming god's Authorities, as well as adding any remaining Acts the consumed god has to their pool. This process also increases the maximum Acts the god can hold by 1.
  • Any god that has no worshippers and has 0 acts at the start of a turn will fall, becoming a mortal and losing all their memories of being a god. There is a small chance that a fallen god can return to godhood at the end of that mortal's life, if they themselves become a figure of worship. A god can deliberately Fall (called Incarnating) in order to interact with mortals directly, or prevent gaining Acts beyond their limitf if they are forced to be out of contact for an extended period of time.
  • Acts begin as Cosmic Acts, capable of preforming any feat not specifically denied by these rules, and will reduce in power with each passing Aeon, more restrictions being added over time.
  • No god may preform any of the following actions, even with a Cosmic Act: Suborn the will of mortals, Harm another god directly, Grant Acts to Mortals, or directly affect the Creations of another god.
  • Directly interacting with Mortals in Godly form is dangerous, often causing unpredictable effects on the mortals involved, up to and including instant death or insanity. For this reason, directly influencing mortals is... discouraged outside of Incarnations or Falls.
  • No god may create a space, area, or dimension which other gods cannot reach or influence. All things must be able to be touched. Additionally, a God may not use an Act to limit, curtail, or reduce the power of other gods or gods in general.
  • The Overgod has final say on the adjudication of Acts.
  • Any Act beyond a god's maximum that they gain is transferred to the Overgod. The Overgod's Acts are always considered Cosmic Acts, except that they are not limited by these rules, but can only be used on the occasion that one of their Children provokes overt action.

Those who wish to join, please fill out the following information.

God Name:
Describe what your God "Looks" Like:
Your Gods Possible Goals in the Void:
Potential Domains (Light, Knowledge, War, etc.):

You may include other information if you believe it relevant. Five Gods total, three required for the IC thread to be opened.

Additionally, please include an example Act and flavor text for consideration.
The act itself should be bold and no more than one sentence.
The flavor text should be italicized, and serves a more narrative purpose, helping determine adjudication.

Gods are accepted based on quality, not first-come-first-in, and the game will only start when three quality gods have been submitted.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Eventide University IC: The Fourth Awakening
« on: February 05, 2018, 05:11:34 pm »
The place: Eventide University. A large, brick structure initially built only a few months after the appearance of the Tears in order to house and educate the creatures that had begun appearing across the world. Since then, it has become a place of learning not just for Dimensional Beings, but for their children and anyone interested in the new world of magic that had seemingly appeared overnight. One would expect that such a school located in the generally-closeminded south of the United States would be frowned upon by the locals, but it had, perhaps wisely, been decided to build the school on the outskirts of the city of New Orleans, which had, as one can expect from the city’s history and culture, been quite welcoming to their new neighbors, to the point that many alumni in those early years had decided to stick around and build their lives there. As a result, not only has the city become one of the most magically-populated places on the planet, it had even stopped getting regularly levelled by hurricanes due to a sizable population of wind and water spirits helping to either break their backs while well out to sea or simply divert them away from the city itself.

Presently, several vehicles are pulling up the long drive to the university itself, within them several members of the newly- accepted class. Some local, some from far-flung climes, each with their own history, nature, and outlook that would no doubt shape the character of their education. All of them find themselves raising their eyes to the sky as the school appears on the horizon, or more specifically to the black clouds that hover over it, an angry red… thing in its center. This was another reason this school had been built here. A Tear, relatively benign compared to many others, and perfectly suited to research. Luckily for some of them, it threw the grounds into a perpetual, red-tinged twilight, the source of the school’s unusual name.

Soon, they would reach the school, their transportation finding its way to the front of the school and letting them out, all but one car, which would instead circle around to the back, the two… students? Prisoners? (To be honest, neither the ones transporting them or, likely, the girls themselves knew quite which they were, if not perhaps both) inside only let out once those escorting them were quite sure they were secure and ready in case the two tried anything. Ultimately, they’d all find themselves led inside, to a central auditorium, and from there to their seats. All these students would find themselves seated together, though the two who had been brought in under guard would be a few seats away, isolated, somewhat, from the rest.

It is quiet, for now. They’re supposed to be here for something of a welcoming speech, but that has yet to start, and would likely be some time coming, so for now, they have time to get to know each other, and consider what path their studies will take going forward...

Alright, so a few things right out the gate this time:

Yes, I know, another one of these. Hopefully this will go better than my previous attempt that started all this mess. I've gotten significantly better at keeping my games under control since then, so hopefully that benefits things. A few differences this time:

The school is not a high school. I know, right? shocker. It's a college now. You all have gotten past the awkward first steps of learning that you're whatever you are and getting used to the changes your body is going through, and are ready to move on to the wider world. This means that characters will hopefully tend to be more mature than previous iterations of the game.

Second, we're at least going to start with a -significantly- smaller cast than previously. I'll be accepting between 3 and 5 characters based off of compatibility and narrative opportunity to start things off, though I may allow people to join in later as things get more into the swing of things. You'll note that I did not mention that mechanics would be part of that decision, and that's because of the third change:

I'm completely revamping the previous stat system I used for games before. Because of this, applications will be character only. Essentially, don't worry about making your character viable or mechanically sound, just figure out what sort of character you want to play, and once we know how things are going and what kind of characters we're ending up with, we'll work on the crunch.

In-universe introduction to follow.

Edit: In order to prevent cluttering up other peoples' chats with this terrible idea I made a discord.

Pop in and discuss characters or something, I dunno.

Life Advice / Law Question 2.0: On Harassment, Libel, cyberbulling, etc.
« on: August 31, 2014, 11:27:04 pm »
The subject of this thread is really very simple. I have a question that I'd like answered by the legal people here on B12, and would be interested in getting an answer about it.

Put simply, when, exactly, do threats and defamation reach the point as being legally considered libel or harassment?

This is something a friend of mine is currently going through, and I'd honestly like to know just what sort of bounds those on the other side have to reach before action outside of just reporting them to the given sites and such, which they've tried?

At what point does bashing someone on the internet become harassment, and when does it become bad enough to count as character defamation/libel, and how serious would these claims be if brought up?

Thanks in advance,

Ragnarok

NO RULES.

NO UNIVERSE.

ONLY MADNESS.

<<This is a gaiden thread. For ALL the forum games. Freeform and shit.

Because having one for RotMG and TA wasn't insane enough.

A ridge, overlooking a city in ruins.

Children stand upon this ridge, looking down upon the destruction and pain spread out below them like a morbid tapestry. The whole city had been leveled, almost, the only buildings remaining standing littered with holes and ruin.

They'd been too late.

They could tell... feel, more than see, that there was nothing alive down there now. Nothing but the twelve Daybreakers who were heading into the hellhole left behind, to kill whatever had caused it.

"Welcome to hell, fish." Vivian looks down at the ruins before her, eyes narrowed, breathing slowly.

{*}Twilight Academy{*}

School Phase Thread

All of you, no matter whether you were chosen to be part of Alpha Team or not, stand before the gates of Twilight Academy. It is unlike anywhere you've ever seen before, so vastly removed from the things you thought of as mundane that you can hardly comprehend it.

Yes, Magic exists, as do gods and the like, but something like... this... is unheard of, impossible, even.

If it was just the insane design of the thing, it would be understandable. At first glance, the place seems to be made of a dark grey stone, smooth and polished, which forms four large walls that enclose the School proper, which is best described as a castle, but... not really.

See, the castle itself is huge, its main building extending what seems to be hundreds of meters into the sky, but even that isn't the crazy part. The crazy part is that it seems to... move, whenever noone is looking, new towers being formed and dissappearing, some normal, to certain vailues of normal, others simply sticking out of the sides of the building like tumros, sideways... and yet somehow, you can see forms walking through them as if they were perfectly upright.

of course, fitting with its impossible nature, the castle is on a rock floating in a void of empty darkness, save for an artificial sun that blazes down from high above, lighting and heating the building, feeling rather pleasant, like a warm summer's eve, upon your backs.

There are dozens, almost a hundred children of all ages around you, from clamoring children to downtrodden teens, from cheery cheerleader types to the kind of incredible beefcake that seems to have more slabs of muscle on his body than most people have skin cells.

Those of you in Alpha squad have been gathered together by a girl, appearing to be somewhere around the age of fifteen, wearing a red cloak, hood pulled back from her face to show off brilliant, bright blue eyes and bright brown hair, almost blonde, a shy but happy smile showing in her features. "Hey... You all are Alpha, right? Hi, I'm Fortuna... I'm supposed to be your sponsor here. I actually graduated last year, so I'm here to help you all get aquainted with the place and help you out for a little while until you all are ready to go out on your own... I hope that we all work well together, okay?"

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Magical Burst: A New Era - Game Thread
« on: June 14, 2013, 10:32:14 am »
OOC THREAD

A new age is dawning.

It does not dawn in fire, or violence, or uprising.

In fact, save for a handful of people, the world does not know the dawning of this age at all. To the majority of people, the sun rises, and sets, the moon travels across the sky, the stars shine, just as they used to. The cities are safe havens against the wilds, and the darkness of the universe is held back.

But much has been forgotten in the name of progress. Sorcery is all but lost, what few remnants remain relegated to the realm of superstition and legend. The heroes who had been exalted above all others were forgotten as well, their great deeds only rarely remembered, even in myth.

This is the world as it is, teeming with humans, with souls, each a beacon, each a wellspring of power untapped. Creation, for the moment at least, is a safe, peaceful place to be.

But there are those who would change that. Creatures, beings of power beyond belief, who wish for nothing else but the destruction of all that exists. Once, they were defeated, cast down into the blackest pits of the abyss. Again, they rose up, but again the world fought back, divided at first… but in the end, the threat that they posed was enough. The world unified, for a time, enemy standing with enemy, fighting beside each other for the sake of their world.

And they won. Once more, the foe was cast down into oblivion, crippled; their power disrupted, their forms, such as they were, shattered and broken. It would take millennia for them to regain the power they once held.

But time passes, marching ever forward.

In time, the world changed.

Now, there are no more heroes.

No more children of sun or moon are chosen,

And those of the Stars have long since left Creation.

But still the Foe wakens.

They fight to free themselves once more of their torment, to destroy creation, and with it, themselves.

They expect to fight their old foes once more, but they are gone.

The world needs new protectors, and so have the Gods made new beings, to do what must be done, and safeguard the world. They created the Tsukaima.

The first defenders worked in the open, as powerful, godlike beings of supreme power. So would these champions work in the shadows, choosing those mortals who have the spark within them and granting them power to fight what must be fought to hold back the darkness of nothingness.

Across the world, countless stories are beginning, and ending. A war is being fought, a war for the shadows, the dark places of the world, where few dare to look, and where fewer can survive.

This is just one of those stories.

One of many… but one story among thousands can make all the difference in the world.

All of you are students at Seifuku Sa Renai Taiyō High School. The school year is currently mostly over, and strange things have begun to happen recently. This is where your story begins.

IC THREAD

So, after signing up for a rather more freeform Magical Girl forum game on these forums that is run by Scapheap, a strange mood came over me and I felt like trying to GM again (never tried running a forum RPG, so this is a new one), and specifically to GM a game called Magical Burst, which is a story-based game inspired generally by the Magical Girl genre and specifically by Puella Magi Madoka Magicka.

The interesting about this game is that it is DARK. Horribly, horribly dark, fittingly with its inspiration.

So, I have a few questions for you all who sign up here, starting with a very, very simple one.

There are two different 'versions' of Magical Burst out right now.

The first, original version, currently in its third edition, can be found Here. it's a bit simpler than the second version, but isn't quite as feature-rich as it, either.

The second is a edited version of the ruleset written by a 4channer who goes by the handle 'Gilgamesh, King of Heroes', entitled Magical Burst: ReWrite. This version is MUCH more full-featured, with different classes of magical girls, an expanded skill system, and generally just a LOT of extra stuff bounding around in there, and is available Here.

We'll need to decide which to play before we roll up character sheets, so I'll leave it at that for now. Vote!

So that's done, and it looks like we're gonna play ReWrite!

ReWrite Manual

For characters, make a sheet using This plaintext format and post it here in a spoiler, please. I'll look them over at a later date.

ALSO! A standard group of Magical Girls is a team of three, so that's what I'm going to start with. Because of this, I'll be taking the BEST applications, not the FIRST applications, though they're likely to be one and the same, since I doubt a whole ton of people are going to be coming in.

Life Advice / Legal Questions
« on: March 04, 2012, 01:56:47 pm »
Alright, so this isn't advice on MY life, but on someone else's, mostly just asking for the answer to a question... Simply because fucked if I know whether this is actually possible or not.

This person's senior class is being denied their class trip because of a couple students from the year before's stupid shit. I don't have all the information I'd like, but I'm not a lawyer so I don't really know what to ask. Anyway, the meat of the question is: can they go to court over this, and if they did, do they have a solid platform to actually win?

I know we have lawyers here, so you all who went to school for this shit, what do you think?

14
Right, this is my first forum game, so it may suck:

The premise of this game is that that you, my fellow dwarves, are in charge of redesigning the defenses of Jurassic park to preclude the stupid shit that happened in it last time. You have been given a near-infinite amount of money to fund this redesign, and, of course, you have access to Dwarven builders so that you can take advantage of their ability to utterly ruin physics.

The origin is actually a conversation with a friend of mine, in which we at one point decided that the main fault of the failure of Jurrassic park was stupidity on the person hired to build its defenses, namely the need to turn off all of the gates to get at the DNA.

Each round, we will focus on a specific topic, and you will provide ideas as to what defense or defenses are put in place. For example, one round may be automated defenses, another may be walls, and so on.

Once someone else posts here, I'll put up the first topic.
