DF Suggestions / Fences

ive always wondered why can dwarves not build any fences for their fortresses.
especially now that i have fortress which entrance is a long bridge above river id like to build fences around it.

i developed this idea a bit further and perhaps dwarves could build regular wooden fences you see on yards, they could give a bit cover, like fortification
and then there could be rope fences (if thats a real word for it) like you see in musee and around some of the sightseeing places, it would reduce the chance of ppl dodging into other side of fence (aka, water or MAGMA) and it wouldnt give any cover. this rope fence would be exactly what i am looking for as im planning to build tower or something so my marksdwarves could keep an eye on enemies crossing that bridge and i wouldnt want gobbos to get cover from fortifications

DF Modding / I created DEATH

its my first time when trying to edit any of the 31.?? raws and i tried to create Death, (y'know, robe wearing guy with a scythe, grim reaper, DEATH and what ever)
I wanted it so that there will be only 1 death and he'd be super tough and deadly. so far he is invincible but cant kill a thing. though that must be because he is made of cotton candy but i havent finished his attacks yet cause im a bit confused of that part.

I tried him in arena mode, i made him fight against blizzard man but i think blizzard guy fell unconsious due to over-exert and Death beat him for over ingame day and Blizzard man lost all of his teeth in a process... but he didnt die.

so i spawned 1 dragon to kill Death but it wasnt enough, I spawned 7 dragons more to scorch the Death but he still didnt die so i tried to pour magma on him and nothing... so in the end i had to encase him in magma. I made Death a scythe and a longsword (ofc custom weapons so that they would be powerful and fitting for Death) but it seems that i cant try those before i nerf Death.


just wanted to share this...

EDIT: bah. not even 30 dwarves in full adamantine gear can kill 1 Death

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Damn those hippies

I just recently started new fortress and has almost finished my first year in it. This is my first fortress in couple of months and my fortress planning skills are quite rusty.
Elves just arrived at me with all their goods crap and as I hadn't done anything except obsidian shortswords and cut gems I tried to sell my swords as them. I forgot that swords need wood to be constructed and Elves got furious and called me a brute.
Elves got so scared of my brutality that they left without packing their goods.

Now my fortress is full of Elvish crap such as random clothing, wood and what not... also 1 Bonobo.
Guess i have to store all that stuff into darkest corners of my fortress and sell them back to elves if they dare to visit me next year

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Animal Fortresses?

Whats wrong with my worlds when all of the human fortresses are full of random animals and there are no soldiers at all. I've had this problem since 31.19 or something like that and that occurs in every world i gen? I usually use default large region world but it has also happened on custom worlds and default pocket world.
its quite annoying because i cant recruit any1 into my party so im forced to travel alone and on daylight.

Hello, i was wondering if it was possible to mod workshops so that you could, for example, create steel golems in metalsmith's workshop or stone golems in mason's workshop.
or then create a whole new workshop, Golem Foundry that could be used to create living weapons of destruction to protect my dwarves.
would it be possible in any way?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Caverns in .18?

I played adventure mode in .16 or .17 version when they got released and i found caverns cool new addition and it was fun to wander in them, killing anything that moved, or try to survive.
then, there were cavern entrances in every little cave that i could possibly find.
now that i started adventurer in .18 i cant seem to be able to find my way into cavern anywhere, have they been removed or how can i get into one?
Id like to discover deepest corners of the earth, and perhaps find my way into a circus full of clowns and die of happiness like a tr00 hero.
Do i need to make a fortress and dig a staircase straight into cavern layer or are there still ramps leading down there?
i have already discovered countless of caves, and even couple of labyrinths and temples (though in Genesis mod, but still) but havent found any ramp leading into great darkness.

DF Gameplay Questions / removing downstairs?

Ive just recently started a new fortress in 31.18 and im completely lost now as last time i played was 40d couple of months before any of these new 31.?? versions came.
so could some1 explain me how do these burrows exactly work? I looked from wiki, and it did help a bit, but im still a bit afraid to try them for anything

another question is that how can i remove downstairs :S

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Hoth, god of misery and torture!

Downloaded new dwarf fortress earlier today and its really cool.

I found temple in my hometown. they were called servants of Hoth, God of misery and torture. I joined their cult because hoth sounded like one of Cthulhu gods.

my hometown didnt offer me any quests so i travelled far away from there and found little village that also worshipped Hoth and their Leader gave me task to kill Monitor beast. He said that monitor beast was lurking in his own town and i didnt know how would i know that nor what it would look like. I retired for a while  and looked from the legends what Monitor beast was and Legends said that Gor (name of the monitor beast) tricked the humans to believe that he was Hoth, God of misery and torture.

have any1 else got quests like this?

DF Modding / Tried to create trolls... got ogres

ok. so i was trying to mod once again. I wanted to have Trolls as playable civilization in dwarf mode and adventure mode. Basically i just copied Dark Dwarves from the wiki but made them bigger and added them few more weapons that dwarves couldn't use. well after i was satisfied with the raws, i generated new world (really small one to save time) but to my surprise, there was ogres that couldnt even speak...

and there seems to be something wrong with some of their clothes because everytime i visit their fortress some of their leather clothes burn away and they die in some strange clouds. and that happens every time i visit it, its not just like every1 wearing leather dies instantly but only some, one or two and one or two random guys walks into deadly mist that comes from burning clothes. same happens with goblins.

can any1 help me with this problem?

hello!
is there a possibility to mod hammers and maces so that you could make them out of stone blocks. i dont want it to be Obsidian but some other like Diorite warhammer. I dont see why warhammers and maces should be restricted to be only iron or steel or adamantine because they are blunt and need only something heavy that can break Elve's bones

DF Bug Reports / Sheriff's weapon rack and armor stand problem

I have a problem in 40d16 (and earlier version but cant remember what version it was. atleast 6 months old version)
its that my Sheriff seems to require armor stand and weapon rack even when i have built both of those to him and assigned. they are in his office / bedroom and i have tried pretty much everything i thought that might help.
he has accepted everything else he demanded but he doesnt want my obsidian weapon racks / armor stands.
i had this problem with my previous version also and its always with these weapon racks / armor stands

Hello once more fellow cave dwellers.
I dont know if this has been suggested before but i didnt find any other thread about this thing.
Could it be possible in any way to shoot unwanted dead bodies / body parts of your enemies with catapults or attach them to ballista arrows. If there were also some battle morale system implemented it could cause moral loss to attacking enemy if you shoot heads of their friends at them. this could be nice cool way to get rid of your dead / living enemies. ofcourse living and screaming elf would cause more moral loss than dead

DF Modding / adamantine quality items costing negative amount??

Hello my fellow dwarves, humans and even elves
I have played this game for around 6 months or so and i wanted to try to do some item moddings last day. I made completely new common stone that should be on layers like Diorite or marble. it was supposed to be melted on bars and that it would have 550% damage and block percent. I made that to help me in dwarf mode and adventure mode later because im too impatient to build big fortress (usually i get tired after one or two years) and to help me kill epic wrestler giant in adventure mode.
My new epic metal also had value of 600.
but when i tried to start new fortress i noticed that I had these epic metal weapons and armors availavable when i was customizing my first 7 dwarves and buying booze. strange thing is that weapons costed all 4000 but anvil and plate mail costed -24651 (around that) and i could actually get infinite amount of goods by buying few anvils and plate mails. And it also replaced former steel (or was it iron) weapons in that preparation screen

how is that. what did i do wrong??
