I wasn't sure if this was intended, so I figured I'd check here first before wasting Toady/Footkerchief's time with a bug report.

Basically, it is what it says in the title. If the leader of a goblin ambush party is captured or killed, then they will all huddle round his cage/corpse and refuse to try and advance or retreat. They will still respond to dwarfs coming too close, but otherwise they will stay there for up to several months before finally leaving.

If this isn't a bug (which I suspect it may not be) then I suggest that the behaviour is changed so that they will at least try to run away if their leader is killed, and until they are able to free other enemies from cages then they should also flee/continue on if the leader is captured.

I just find it frustrating to be basically stuck in a stalemate with some goblins. I can't attack them because my military is not strong enough, and I can't just ignore them because they are blocking the main entrance. There are weapon traps right next to them, but it will take at least a month in-game for them all to wander into them. Their leader and half their squad have already been thoroughly dismembered to death but the rest of them just seem to be standing around in mourning.

Anyone else had this problem?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Unlikeable. Liked by no one.
« on: April 05, 2010, 05:29:47 pm »
I have just started a new fort in DF2010 (I'm on my second year) and while everyone else is reasonably happy, this one weaver seems to be seriously lacking in friends, and therefore unhappy. She has a single friend and 2 grudges already. Everyone else is just listed as an acquaintance. There is nothing in his profile to indicate why he is so unpopular. It even says "She is very friendly." in her profile.

Anyway. I figured I'd post this here to see if anyone else has had an incredibly unpopular dwarf, and is there anything I can do about it?

DF Bug Reports / [0.31.01] - Errors in Compressed Files on Disk
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:40:46 pm »
Just tried to load my game after saving it normally (no crashes while saving or anything) and I get the error:

"One of the compressed files on disk has errors in it. Please restore from backup if you are able."

Now, I haven't got any backups (will set autobackup on in future) so any ideas what I could do to fix this or why it occurred in the first place. I'm posting this in bug reports because as far as I know I didn't do anything different to normal.

The tasks in progress when I saved were mainly just normal stuff. The only issue that could be a problem is that I had about 5

in the caverns under me walled off for lack of a functioning military.

Anyway, thanks in advance.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Flaming Catapult
« on: March 29, 2010, 06:42:06 pm »
I have just had an awesome idea for a new weapon - the fire catapult. Essentially it is a normal catapult, but loaded with burning coal/lignite and set to fire from an altitude so that it will rain burning death upon the enemy.

The setup for this would be fairly simple. A catapult would be set up in the fortress inside a room with a single door allowing access. There would be a stockpile full of coal/lignite stones with a system to dump magma over them  to ignite them activated by a lever by the catapult. A dwarf would be sent to ready the catapult to fire, then he would be locked in the room, told to pull the lever to ignite the ammo, then ordered to open fire. He would grab the only accessible stone, completely oblivious to the flames, load it, and send it flying into the enemy, hopefully setting most of the map on fire.

Ideally the dwarf would be naked so he wouldn't get set on fire by the loading operation.

Now, tell me if this would work?

First, sorry if this bug has already been posted. I tried searching, and I have looked for it in the bug tracker, but I didn't see it anywhere.

When trying to link a floodgate to a lever I have found that initially, despite a floodgate being highlighted in the list, the main view is still centred on the lever. Scrolling in the list moves the view to various floodgates, but they are not the correct one. When selecting a floodgate, the correct one is highlighted in the main view, but only after I have reached the screen to select the mechanisms to be used. Also, when an incorrect floodgate is shown, there is no cursor shown over it to indicate which one is selected.

I am using 40d19 with some small changes to the raws to increase the frequency of some creatures and allow them to breed. I don't think this will affect the interface, but if anyone wants to see the raws I can post them. I'm 99.9% sure there are no duplicate entries, since this is the only bug I have encountered so far in this world.
