Other Games / Grid Wars (With DF Tileset Now)
« on: February 25, 2010, 05:00:56 am »
Ok, I think this is fine to talk about and post. Did a few searches but didn't pull up any topics or posts about the game though so that always makes me leery (we have tons of game topics around here, why not one for this?)

Info: http://gaming.wikia.com/wiki/Grid_Wars
Download: http://gridwars.marune.de/
Download v54 + DF Tileset: http://www.megafileupload.com/en/file/198770/GridWars54-DFPack-7z.html
Video of Tileset (half finished): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrPb3-Klj7o

Wikipedia and Cnet both have download links to this game so it should be fine, right? If not mods, just delete or lock this...

Never heard of Grid Wars? Well it's basically the PC clone of Geometry Wars, and it's free.
And it's fun. Supports controllers of all types as well as keyboard and mouse should that be your thing.
Oh yeah it's also pretty easy to mod (graphics / sound).

I'm not very good at the game my self, but I did have fun throwing together a DF Tileset for the game. I used the Bisasam 24x24 Tileset for the sprites since it was the highest quality ASCII sheet I could find.

Most of the icons have been updated, though I did leave a few alone, and some I couldn't change at all.

Cheers though, have fun :)

Adventure Mode is still a focus but not the primary one, moving to a new board.

This topic has been moved to Play With Your Buddies.

General Discussion / Free voice morphing software?
« on: January 14, 2010, 11:31:49 pm »
Well, I tried searching on google for some software to morph my voice in real time but so far every site I've been to is extremely suspect. There doesn't seem to be any advice or recommendations from a reliable source and I'd rather not install a bunch of programs testing them out trying to find a non-malware one that works (I'm also on a fresh format of the HD so I'd like to keep things as clean as can be).

Any one have any suggestions for shareware / full versions?

DF General Discussion / WorldGen Extreme: Number Pushing for Science
« on: January 04, 2010, 06:04:24 pm »
So a hobby of mine recently has been to tweak worldgen files & entity population limites and then attempt to gen the largest most lively worlds possible just to see what happens.

Finalizing Gen 1 -

Civilization Map Year 10 -

Civilization Map Year 250 -

I don't know as much about the worldgen / entity files as many people around here so am wondering now, what is the largest world you can gen? Is there a maximum limit to the size of the world and what it can be pushed to? I will say I've never had a world gen succed if I allowed it to continue to long, if starts to approach 5million total events I've had to end it or it always crashes.

Can the engine handle more than 5million events? How many people can fit into the world at once?

DF Gameplay Questions / Export Map and Gen Info [problems]
« on: January 04, 2010, 11:49:02 am »
So I'm trying to export the information for this world I genned (any world actually) and the game refuses to do it unless I turn the custom tileset I'm using off in the ini.

Is that normal? I could have swore that I was able to export maps when I was using the MaydayMax tileset a few months ago.

Granted it will export it if I go into the options and just use curses (graphics:no) but was hoping I wouldn't have to.

This is using 40d16 version and I wasn't sure what forum to ask this in. Not sure that it's a bug as much as my own stupidity :P

DF Gameplay Questions / Few minor questions
« on: October 13, 2009, 06:27:13 pm »
1. Anyway to assign wardogs to a champion? Tired of having to load up my recruits up with all the dogs I think they'll need before they die.

2. Can I stop my god damn dwarfs from suspending construction on things that I tell them to build? Walls, shops, floors, roads, etc. I'm tired of having them only build 20/30 pieces and I have to go back 30 minutes later once I think of it and turn unsuspend it. I don't know why do it and honestly if I find a dwarf quitting a job like that again I'm going to drown his lazy ass.

3. Is there a way to clean up sand? It makes the screen even more cluttered and hard for me to see what is going on. It's no biggie but honestly I'd like to turn the tiles off or even assign dwarfs to go sweep it up, I don't care just to get rid of it

Been playing for a few weeks now on and off and these are really the main things that have been bothering me. I did search for some of the answers but got a lot of posts from 2006 - 2007 and was hoping new information was available.

Cheers.
