Since loading my latest fortress, I've suddenly become spammed with pathing interrupts "could not path". I have dwarves starving to death sitting on top of food that they cancel eating because they couldn't find a path. I don't have a dining room, so I don't understand what hold up is. I also have a Maceman who cancels picking up equipment even though he seems to be wearing all of the best equipment available.


Also, I figured I should note, that the caverns on my map are acting strangely. There is an aquifer pouring into one of them, and every time I load the game a part of it collapses.

I've tried reloading and nothing's changed, is this fort a lost cause of the lamest type?

DF Gameplay Questions / Sparring Observation

  I noticed some of my civilians who have never been in combat gaining experience. Are they observing my soldiers sparring and learning just while passing by the barracks? If so, is there a good way to use this to train future soldiers among their ranks?


   Also, there was an unconscious Draltha in a weapon trap recently. A woodcutter walked right on up to it without being interrupted, and when he stepped on it the trap seemed to go off again, finishing it. I want to believe he Mario Bro-stomped that sonovabitch on his way to fell some shrooms, but is that even possible?

  All of a sudden cats and dogs started falling all over the map. It was really interesting to watch as they splattered on the ground, I assume they spawned from a great height. Anybody else get this? Not sure if it's a feature or a bug....

  I have butchered quite a bit of animals. I have both a tanner's workshop and several dwarves with tanning enabled. I started watching the butcherings, and noticed that no raw hide was being produced. Is this dwarf as good as dead?

  Also, what could cause this?

  Sometimes after disarming a goblin they'll die inside the cage. Are my dorfs reclaiming an embedded projectile and causing them to bleed out? That's the only thing I can think of that makes sense. The less sensible idea is that goblins need to graze...ON TERROR

  I enjoy digging huge trenches on the surface to make it a little safer for my woodcutters/hunters by forcing incoming traffic to travel over some traps while having an indirect route.  I noticed there are corpses that remain in traps that my dorfs seem to ignore. Does that mean they're still jammed?

  I've dug a goblin gibbing ground death pit. I've read somewhere that you can use their bones for stuff if you kill them this way, but my dorfs seem to ignore the room as it gets messier.

    A goblin snatcher was discovered with a baby in a bag. He immediately STABBED THE BABY WHILE FLEEING. WHY!?

   I've never seen this before. The snatching happened outside, unless my lions don't count for spotting sneakers.
 

  Also, I stranded a Liaison while building my death maze. I didn't bother getting him down, I hate being interrupted besides I don't need anything in trade. After a while, he "left unhappy" and became a Potash Maker. He was then struck by melancholy. Then he somehow got down, but now one of my geese (?!) is stranded in his place. That is, unless....did the Liason turn into a goose? Nah, that couldn't be...

 

  Ah, just witnessed a second snatcher. They stab and grab. I get it. I was confused because he had a mutilated corpse in his bag. He cut off the baby's foot, bagged it, and it bled to death in the bag.

 

    Also both mothers were out and about on the surface.

DF Gameplay Questions / Cavern Randomly Collapsing On It's Own

   It had reached a point where almost no natural floor remained. Only hint I think I have is from creatures caught near the collapse.


"Caught in a magma mist" it was something like that, is that abnormal or is it the new collapse mist message?

  Is this a less subtle way of complaining about un-smoothed floor? I kid, but can a forgotten beast extract cause this somehow?

  Anybody got some stories to share? I'll share one that occurred recently for me. I gotta say, I'm loving the new combat logs.


   I stationed my squad in the room with a goblin cage and pulled the lever. Immediately a sword struck it's heart and blood sprayed in a wide spiral about the room. A speardorf cut off the  goblin's right hand and bit the left, shaking the goblin around by it as blood continued spraying wildly. Just before I was certain the goblin would die to blood-loss, one of my dorfs kicked it's skull through it's brain.

  I almost felt sorry for it, but then I remembered all the innocent dorfs who fell to goblin ambushes and pulled the lever that released the NEXT naked, unarmed goblin before my squad of fresh recruits.

Is deforestation an issue?

Does it matter if my justice administrators are set to active/training or not?

What's the best weapon for my justice uniform?

How much does quality effect armor? Artifact Bronze piece or common Steel piece? Also, can't seem to get dwarfs to equip artifacts.

"Dorf McBeardfist cancels pick up equipment; equipment mis-match" -What is this?


Also, in my current fort there are a couple of dorfs in a room getting thirsty/hungry with no job, and I can't link up the levers in that room(claims I don't have enough mechanisms which is bullshit). Other dwarfs come and go, so they aren't stuck....
  Could it have something to do with me re-using those levers over and over again to link up cages in that room?






For a cheap laugh...

A drowning dwarf's last thought was "Was recently comforted by a lovely waterfall." (I actually managed to save her, by luck my legendary miner was near enough to dig her a ramp out. )

DF Suggestions / New Military Order: Escort

  I really want this so I can better protect my weavers/miners. Possibly hunters, or I need to find a way to forbid the novice hunters from hunting dangerous stuff like cave crocodiles.
