DF Wiki Discussion / No page for "Curse"
« on: April 26, 2017, 10:46:12 am »
I went looking for info on mummy curses and what they do and noticed there is no page for them. Sadly I have not experienced any curses and have no info for a page (or addtion to the mummy page) but I thought I should mention the absence of this information.

Other Games / Toejam and Earl: Back in the Groove - Kickstarting Now
« on: March 03, 2015, 10:58:12 am »
It looks like the original designer of the Toejam and Earl series is trying to put together a true sequel to the first game, this time without executive meddling.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1578116861/toejam-and-earl-back-in-the-groove/description

It's only $15 to pledge for the game itself and the whole project has the delicious reek of super nostalgia.  Anyone else looking forward to this?

Other Games / Shin Megami Tensei IV
« on: July 10, 2013, 12:06:07 am »
So i saw there was no thread and this comes out this month.  I've got it preordered and all already.

Interesting note:
If you register a copy of Shin Megami Tensei IV and Fire Emblem Awakening before August 31 you'll get 30$ of eshop cash (North America gets this).

If you preorder from amazon you get some ridiculous looking armor as an added free DLC.

Here's a video of the unboxing:http://youtu.be/KFMGHbo0ItY
Even it it is $50, the 176 page book had sold me due to its size.  The bonus cash simply sealed the deal.

The subject pretty much tells the story here.  Just wanted to give everyone a heads up because it is only on for a day or two.

Other Games / Animal Crossing: New Leaf
« on: June 05, 2013, 09:49:44 pm »
In a few days the newest Animal Crossing game is dropping on the 3DS.  Is anyone else going to get it?

It'll be my first AC game and I hear there is some extensive multiplayer options.

Other Games / New Game Bundle: Winter Wolves
« on: September 17, 2012, 09:07:30 pm »
http://groupees.com/ww

Basically this is a nice and cheap pack of Visual Novel style games from a Western company.

Thus far from my testing these are somewhat hilarious and well done, albeit with slightly weaker than normal art and possibly less quality drama.

But they are very cheap, especially given this is Winter Wolves we are talking about.  This may well be the only time these are discounted from their normal exaggerated prices for a few more years.

As always I am flying the visual novel banner.

(On a side note Heileen seems to set a new standard for unintentionally hilarious.  One animation makes the sailor juy appear to be humping the text box.  I at first rationalized he was on the ship and the up down motion was the waves.  But then he up and declared he was going to go and get on the ship...  Was he like hopping or something?)

Other Games / Juniper's Knot
« on: August 20, 2012, 08:19:52 pm »
"A short kinetic novel crafted in a month by Dischan, Juniper’s Knot is a story told from dual perspectives: that of a demon and a boy. It begins on an autumn morning in a silent town. "

http://junipersknot.dischan.org/

This only took me about an hour and a half to play through but is was rather well done and quite interesting.  I'm recommending it to any of the usual sort who like visual novels and also to anyone who hasn't tried one before as its brevity is an asset for newcomers.

Honestly they just did a good job making this.

(Note: Kinetic visual novels have no choices to make, this is essentially a story merged with pictures, music, and sound effects.  Altogether this means its about an encapsulated experience rather than an interactive situation.)

DF Suggestions / Fake goods
« on: June 30, 2012, 05:56:12 pm »
So as I walked through the market today, I listened to all the shouts of authentic dingo meat and real cat bone rings and it occurred to me "If all these guys are trying to convince me their stuff is real, surely some of them should be selling fraudulent merchandise."

Cause while authentic donkey brains are amusing, imitation donkey brains would make it even more ludicrous.

Also cause it makes logical sense.  If everyone must convince you the are selling legit items, someone must sell fakes.

Other Games / Analogue: A Hate Story
« on: June 28, 2012, 06:58:43 pm »
I've considered posting about this in the past but given it is on sale from steam today I finally got around to it.

Simply put, this is the best Visual Novel I have played, and I have played a very very large number of them.

The music is astounding, the plot dark and amazing, the characters enjoyable, the puzzle is slightly challenging but not annoying, it has five endings, and the character frame moves bring the characters to life so much that it brings other VNs to shame (excluding Quartett).

It was a good deal at 10$ and it's only 6$ today, go forth and buy it if you even remotely like visual novels.

And now for spoiler discussion in spoiler tags.  I'd ask that everyone who already played it be fairly rigid in using them and that anyone who wants to play it ever doesn't read them because the unveiling of the games secrets is what pulls it all together.

So I've playing the Mushroom Kingdom mod, as a shyguy :), and my team was sent off to slay a Titan.  This Titan turned out to be made of Emerald and we killed it.

Suffice to say, I am now dragging a 14065L Emerald named after the Titan.  I sadly only have a speed of 99 and wish to do something with it that would be amusing.

And so I ask you all, what should I do with a 14065L Emerald the likes of which could shatter national economies.

(I'm not sure if it has actual value.  I may try to get it to a store to see.)

DF Gameplay Questions / Halting Wereape Contagion?
« on: June 07, 2012, 12:36:47 am »
So I had a wereape appear at my fortress a bit ago.  It proceeded to beat the hell out of a wood hauler before changing into a peasant and running away.  We then hospitalized the wood hauler.

Now the woodhauler has busted out into wereape form himself and is beating a mason.

I'm dispatching the military to slay him but I would like to know what injuries warrant quarantine or euthanasia for the mason.

(On a side note I feel pretty dang awesome to have of all things wereapes rampaging my hospital room.  This is way more amusing than silly old vampires.)

Update: It bit off the mason's arm.  I'm guessing she is infected then :P

And now the mason is dead and my Giant Louse is bravely defending some civilians.  Still I'd like to know what causes infection spread for were critters.  I am guessing bite but I don't really know.

So I'm just starting this thing up and have a decent world generated.  I had to stretch out the map to about x2 normal size to grab a volcano and a regenerating water source.  It has Untamed Wilds and Joyous Wilds and is only afflicted with an aquifer near the brook.

The goal of the fort is this:

"DWARVES IN SPACE!"

To this end I will in the first year dig out some basic survival facilities in the dirt and start the space elevator ribbon.

These facilities will only include the following:

1. Food/booze storage.
2. Farming
3. Beds and dormitories

Rules:
Workshops may be constructed on the surface but no defenses of any sort, even door or barracks, may be built on the surface or underground.

The only physical connection the fort may have with the ground is the 1 tile wide staircase.

Supplies and fluids must be either delivered via a secondary launch tower that shoots them into the station in carts or by pumping them over it and pouring them in (no touching!)

Goals:

Eventually obsidian farming and watering should allow space farming.

Windmills as solar generators to power automated cart systems.

Launch tower to take mined rock and shoot it into the station.

Orbital magma systems.

POSEIDON:  A system to dump water down the giant stair line to fling off goblins.

Marks dwarf stations that  can target the stair to fling off forgotten beasts.

Orbital mine cart bomber platform.

Other various Hijinks!

Currently need:

Players to sign up for turns.

(Note that while this seems peaceful and easy, the fact that the military must be barracked in the station  and the lack of ground forces means that any invasion is liable to cause FUN.  And until someone builds orbital farms food may be a concern, something unheard of in more recent years of dwarf fortress.)

http://pokemon-online.eu/

I'm sorta mystified that there isn't a thread about this already.

This is a free, online, multiplayer, battle simulator, for all of the core Pokemon games.

You can even set stuff up to build teams from specific generations and alter EV points.  Thus it is poke battling at its finest without the horrors of EV grinding or trying to grab up specific event only types.

I recently gave it a try and it is pretty awesome.  Perhaps this could use a Bay-12 team?

I'm neotemplarvellum on their system, send me a message or challenge my admittedly shoddy team to battle.

Other Games / Devil Whiskey
« on: April 06, 2012, 07:52:26 am »
So I just got Devil Whiskey from the gamer's gate pack and have thus far found it to be awesome but lacking in faqs and walkthroughs.

I propose that we collectively add in our helpful discoveries.

Here are mine.

1 Get the manual for the town map alone.
2 This helps you find the temple that heals you.
3 Make the slot 1 member have good social skills so he can haggle, loot cash auto flows to him and thus this saves management.  Or turn on the pool cash option.

My current issue is figuring out how to get portable heals.

Righto it is year 4 of my fort and we have over 430 living animals (yay awesome new pc, no slowdown), mostly due to massive eggsploitation. (I also only farm booze crops, everyone eats eggs and meat, and cooked meals.)

I have so many that I just plant 30 or so animals outside the walls to exhaust gobbo archers of their bolts and to make the melees spread out chasing them.  This seems to work really well, albeit with horrific animal casualties that get regenerated the next month (I send in the babies as they are more expendable).

Does anyone else do this?
