So. This thread's for my SIDEWALC project, serving as a hub for organizing playtests and such. Not much to say, except that I'm planning on running one at 8 PM (GMT-5. Functionally -6 because Daylight Savings Time) on Saturdays, at least to start with.

SO. I've been working on, for the past two or so, a tabletop game for Bionicle-related stuff. Basing it off of an old project of mine that never got off the ground called 'SIDEWALC' (From Strength, Intelligence, Dexterity Endurance, Willpower, Awareness, Luck, and Charm, the system's stats.). The system's pretty rough as it stands, being kludged together from a VERY basic system, with only six pages of rules and tables.

Anyways. If this garners enough interest, I'll make a playtest thread. I'm also gladly accepting input on what species, items, or such I should add to the next release.

This project is defunct.

DF Modding / Tissue errors.

This is my first time modding in... well, over a year. Any help that could get me out of this rut would be greatly appreciated.

Well, taking Talvieno's Creature & Civ generator, and Sphalerite's Plant script (Modified & updated courtesy of Zaratustra), I asked myself, "What if I genned a world using only the results from these where possible?", which led me to remove everything except for vermin, domestic creatures, and Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, and Humans. The result is, well, a world gone mad. Now, 'Ghewoo Okfee' means 'The Planet of Myth' in one of the languages generated with the new civs, but for all intents and purposes, it might as well mean 'Batshit Insane'.

This world was genned with a slightly modified version of the Medium Region parameters. 10000 embark points, 175 mineral scarcity (Because I'm a sissy. :V), 600 erosion cycles, 25 civs.

Now, in addition to trying to figure out what's going on in this world gone mad, I'm also going to attempt to learn the taming and minecart systems (Which I've put off waaaay too long).

These posts are going to cover variable amounts of stuff. At first, I'll probably cover it year by year, with the occasional interlude to provide summaries, then when things pick up, I'm going to switch over to doing seasons instead. As a warning, it may take me a while to get into the swing of things; early entries will probably be disjointed.

Entry 1: Embark & First year

So, seems like a fairly nice world so far. Most of the other civs are willing to trade, and there's one that's just like 'nope, not gonna have anything to do with you at all'. Can't help but wonder about the Grilhas, though. Like, if they're massive and absolute killers. Or tiny and just rely on sheer numbers or something.

Herp, forgot to set the window back to normal before taking a screenshot. Enjoy the long text. :V

...Eblees. Dunno why, but they sound adorable.

Already, we find a critter. Hmm...

Snake-like, hmm?

...That... That doesn't seem very snake-like. <_>

Anyways, picked a fairly good spot. Plenty of coal by the looks of it, although it seems like we've only got tetrahedrite for ore. Traps it is, then.

And another critter!

What is it with this world and four-armed things? This one has wings, though. And apparently no skin. ._.

Apparently, there's no fish. Which means I'm gonna re-assign Urist McFisherdwarf here to mining. Don't know why I bother with bringing them with me anymore, this almost always happens. ::)

While waiting on the miners to dig out some basic accommodations, I decided to check on the wagon, to see what it was made of. Because why the hell not. It really highlights an interesting trait of this world; A lot of the 'trees' seem to actually be sturdier, giant versions of various herbs and spices. Cinnamon Shaft, Castle Garlic, etc.

My fist migrant wave arrived 2/3 of the way through Hematite, and it was fairly typical; fairly useless. Mostly dwarves with fishing-related skills. One with woodworking experience, though, so it wasn't a complete waste. Anyways, too spread out for a screenshot. And the yak calf that was brought along with the wave grew up in only 2 days. Heh.

So far, the summer's been boring, except for these... things.

Can't help but picture the Esevill as some kind of waddling, scaly, tuskless, eye-less walrus-person, using echolocation. Only instead of high-pitched chittering like a bat, my mind keeps imaginaning as it saying 'derp' over and over again. The Truckamblay, on the other hand, just kind of come across as a cyclops naga with mitten hands. Figures. :V

Either way, I must domesticate both of these. Only time will tell if I succeed.

My attempts to build an above-ground farm seems to have uncovered a bug (Which has probably already been reported, but still.). Seems that when a construction like a wall or a floor is deconstructed, it teleports a number of building materials to it. <_>.

Well, as it turns out, I got my first thief on the 1st of Moonstone, right at the start of winter. I was in a bit of a bind before the caravan came along, having only 4 edible units of meat, 16 edible units of fish, and 2 edible units of plants. I'm not proud of myself for it, but I dismantled the depot before they had a chance to pack up and leave. At least by next year I should be able to actually trade for goods instead of stealing them.

Dwarfing request rules!

Requests are first-come, first-serve. Post what kind of dwarf you'd prefer to be dwarfed as (Gender, profession, the usual {And custom profession/title if you want that :P} ). I'll dwarf five people per in-game year, tops. Because I've gotta focus on the LP. :V

Niralthur Prefecture is the easternmost territory in the Republic of Arrak. Situated on the western coast of the continent of Ashinra, it is a place full of ruins from the great elven empire which ruled over most of Ashinra and several other neighbouring continents. The prefecture is a place where one can still find adventure in the otherwise generally peaceful Republic, and rumours and tales of treasure and adventure abound. Be it the last bastion of elven civilization far to the east, whispered stories of the strange, chaos-tainted wastelands at the heart of the continent, or even the rumours of a lost city of the elves at the bottom of Lake Endryl, there is adventure and excitement for those who know how to look. You are new arrivals to the prefecture, having arrived in the city of Oakthorne, situated along the banks of the River Kelm. It is nowhere near as cosmopolitan as New Albion, the prefecture capital, but it is still a rather large settlement.

Note: These are only the deities for starting characters. There are many more. If you feel that none of the deities presented are suitable for your character, PM me and we'll work something out.

Houserules:
    - No level limits based on race
    - A character may expend two proficiency slots to gain proficiency in a weapon not normally allowed by their class.
    - Attributes are determined by 3d6, in order. You may then swap two of the attributes, then distribute five points as you see fit. You can spend one of said points on an attribute already at 18, in which case you roll for exceptional (Which you would normally do if you rolled a natural 18 for that attribute (Eg 18/xx strength or intelligence or whatever)
    - Exceptional scores exist for all attributes.
    - One may take proficiency in dual-wielding a specific type of weapon at the cost of two proficiency slots, doubling the amount of damage done in an attack, at the cost of a -1 to-hit penalty
    - One may take proficiency in unarmed combat, doing a base of 1d2 damage.

So, the original LaFotM died in a cataclysm of shipping and meta, so I figured it was time for a hard reboot. With better rules.

Things go missing. It's a basic fact of life across the multiverse. Sometimes they're found again, but sometimes they seem to vanish from reality. These things do indeed vanish. They end up in a place known by many titles, but for convenience, we'll call it the Lost & Found. Everything that's ever been lost and never found again ends up here at one point or another. Entire worlds composed of mismatched socks, galaxies of loose change, and stranger things still litter this infinite void, alongside more conventional worlds and structures. Life is abundant here, and entire civilizations have risen and fallen in the endless history of this place. But for most, survival here is a struggle, most settlements being nothing more than close-knit tribes of people of all species and outlooks.

The idea behind this should be fairly obvious, but I guess I might as well give a bit more information.

The idea is that the players take on the role of new arrivals to the Lost & Found, waking up in a distant, isolated part of it, and must struggle to survive and hopefully find a way off the ball of various detritus they find themselves on. Any kind of character is appropriate, short of deities or other beings of comparable power. That means no Mary Sues. They will be handled PPC style.

This will be free-form.

Some basic rules:

1. NO CANON CHARACTERS. OR ITEMS.
2. NO META.
3. NO GODMODING. ((*COUGH*Taricus*COUGH*))
4. NO MARY SUES. THEY WILL DEALT WITH. BRUTALLY.
5. CHARACTERS FROM AN ESTABLISHED SETTING ARE OKAY, BUT TRY TO KEEP REFERENCES TO CANON EVENTS IN SAID SETTING TO A MINIMUM.

Brecan Greene rubbed his forehead as sat up, only to find himself at the bottom of a rather large crater. He stood up, looking around, before sitting down on a nearby rock.

"Well, I've really mucked things up this time..."

General Discussion / Things that made you go 'Whoa' today Thread
« on: August 28, 2012, 05:21:04 pm »
Basically, I figured we could use a thread for things that made us go 'whoa...' in a kind of awed manner recently.

I just achieved a very brief state of almost transcendental self-awareness while thinking about relativity. I became intensely aware of the positioning of my body and its movements. It was kind of awe-inspiring, to be honest.

You wake up to find yourself in a simply-furnished room, with one hell of a hangover.

What's your name, gender, age, and profession?

Roll To Dodge / Stranded! RtD (Signups closed)(Turn 2)
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:34:51 am »
You are the survivors of the crash-landing of the Magellan, an exploration vessel. You had just finished a survey of the system URIST 54224, when you crashed on the fourth planet in the system. This planet has a thinner atmosphere than Earth, lower gravity, and its day is much longer: 346.11 hours. In the region you crashed in, the temperature swings are extreme: During the day, temperatures soar to a sweltering 46.4 degrees celsius, and at night plunge to a bone-chilling -65.4 degrees celsius. Large swathes of the world are covered in deserts, across which blow fierce, howling winds, driven by the great differences in temperature between day and night. The sun is starting to set now, and the long, cold night broods on the horizon.  WELCOME TO HELL. PLEASE, ENJOY YOUR STAY. YOU WON'T BE LEAVING ANYTIME SOON.
Rules: This game uses the standard RTD rules, along with sanity and health meters.
Spoiler: Character Sheets (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: professions (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Templates (click to show/hide)
Note: This will get silly. Insanity is most likely inevitable.
Edit: You can suggest templates and/or professions if you don't find any you like.
The ship is too heavily damaged for it to be likely that it will ever operate as a spacecraft, let alone aircraft, ever again. You may be able to salvage it for parts and supplies, though.

Players:
1. Darvi (Character:Bob Clarkson)
2. Dwarmin (Character:Desmond Grey)
3. Taric (Character:Taric)
4. Nirur Torir (Character: Doctor Torir)
5. Athra (Character:Georges jefferson)

Forum Games and Roleplaying / YOU ARE GADGETEER
« on: March 23, 2011, 12:42:10 pm »
This is my second attempt at a game in the same vein as YOU ARE WIZARD!.

You are Gadgeteer! You suffered a rather nasty head injuiry a couple years ago, and have mostly recovered. You just can't seem to remember your name, what you had in your workshop or what they did, or what you were doing when you got the injuiry. Or why you were a gadgeteer to begin with.

You are standing in front of your workbench. There are many thingamajigs, whatchamacalits and doodads on it, as well as your toolbox and a half-finished gadget.

There are various cabinets and storage units scattered around the workshop.

What do you do?

-----

Inventory:

25 thingamajigs (Purpose unknown) (On workbench)
50 whatchamacalits (Purpose unknown) (On workbench)
75 doodads (Purpose unknown) (On workbench)
1 Toolbox (On workbench)
1 half-finished gadget (Purpose unknown) (On workbench)

DF Suggestions / Inheritable trait templates
« on: March 21, 2011, 09:22:59 am »
I was thinking recently, and got an idea.

More or less, it amounts to inheritable trait templates.

Basically, you take certain traits, like skin colour or hair colour, and define whether they're reccessive, dominant, and if dominant 'how' dominant (a numerical value.). This would allow for more variation and surprises, and get rid of that whole 'everyone having the same skin, eye, and hair colour' problem we have now. (I know of the other way to do it, but I'm too lazy to go through all the creature raws like that.)

In essence, it would be in the same vein as body plans or tissue templates.

Comments? Good? Bad? Neither?
