Most animal people in Dwarf Fortress are created from the animal person variation thing that converts the feral creature into a animal person. In the process of this, even though almost all animal people are given the humanoid layout, a good chunk of them (more then half?) lack the Humanoid_Joints flag that gives them wrists, elbows, knees, etc. that can be damaged in combat or locked and broken via wrestling.

I believe this is an oversight, as the Rodent-Man and Amphibian-Man (two animal people who were "created from the ground up") have humanoid_joints, making them valid wrestling targets. However, the Rat-Man and Green Tree Frog man do not have such tag, making their joints impossible to wrestle.

Incidentally, the Bat-Man still has humanoid joints added onto his raws even though he was an OG animal-man who later had his raws converted to use the creature variation system. (But he had humanoid joints back then, too)

I'm proposing almost all animal people, if they don't have nobones, and have a humanoid layout, be given humanoid_joints. Animals with digitgrade legs turned into animal men, might be a bit iffy (i.e. their legs look different from a humans) but Satyrs and Foul Blendecs have visibly different leg layouts yet still have humanoid knees and ankles, so I think Humanoid_Hoof can be included for adding humanoid joints to.

I'm not sure on insect-men such as ant-men however.

EDIT: My concern is with insect-men, don't endoskeletons have sever-on-break or something? Just worried it might lead to a lot of snapped-off arms and legs if they get humanoid joints, to an excessive amount.

DF Gameplay Questions / New Adventure Mode Icons
« on: October 01, 2014, 01:27:12 pm »
What do they mean? Sometimes I see like !'s and ?'s moving around. I assume it's noise but I'm not sure.

Also, sometimes in combat I see a dark blue ! flashing over someone. What does that mean? I know it used to mean the dwarf was suicidal from insanity. But this isn't fortress mode, this is Adventure Mode. Did I beat them to the point they went insane? I've googled it and found nothing. Same with the vision cones, I assume the red one means you'll be spotted, but what about the yellow one? I've also seen purple and blue cones.

Also why is it I only sometimes see a little arrow showing the movement direction, and sometimes I don't? Does it have to do with certain skills?

Also when is the oder sense used? I use it all the time and never smell anything, near ponds, near people I've killed, even near food and gotten nothing.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Flowing well water = better?
« on: July 14, 2012, 02:30:19 pm »
I decided to setup a well in my hospital, I plan to let water drain into the container from a river nearby, the problem is the water will have to flow across Z levels and I read doing that will destroy the natural "Flow" from river water (Obviously the river will remain naterually flowing, just as soon as the water channeled from it changes Z level said water stops flowing natrually) What are the effects of this? I read on the wiki all well water is instantly clean and desalted, etc. However I'm unsure if this is true considering forum posts I read. Will non flowing water become contaminiated? (under "Normal" circumstances) Will I have doctors end up cleaning dwarves with dirty water, infecting them, and killing them, then have the unhappy thoughts from "Stagent water" cause a tantrum spiral, etc?

Or is it perfectly safe and fine to channel a river down to the hospital?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Help training my militery?
« on: July 07, 2012, 10:48:48 pm »
I have a army of 7 idiotic dwarves, they keep getting ANNILIHATED everytime theres a seige! I reclaimed the fort 5 times already! Can someone please help me? They get their ass kicked EVERY SINGLE TIME. I try having them spar but they gain XP so slowly I might as well not even bother! I cannot seem to get them armor either because it never fits and the smelter system is terrible, all the options are red even with fuel, and even if i DO get armor the dwarves act stupid and put two shoes on one foot, etc.

What happened to the 40d days where you had to assign a weapon, armor, and be good to go? I remember vividly having legendary soldiers in only a few years of training.

This issue seems to be limited to me, I see NO ONE ELSE complaining of this issue and to be honest, I'm considering quitting.

Is there ANY way to get them to train more? They justs it there like "Organizing dodging "demon"stration (Properly labled for the devil this new militery system is) and 3 years later, their only dabbling! Can someone please give me some assistance on how to make a man out of these wimps? I never survived even an ambush in the +15 forts i've played and its putting me off. Is there any way i can temperoraliy disable seiges and ambushes, theifs, etc while i manage to find a way to get my army on its feet?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Ambush! What do i do?
« on: November 23, 2011, 05:30:57 pm »
I have a goblin ambush on my fortress, no matter what i do they always one shot kill my hammerdwarves who suck for some reason (Urist McHammerDwarf strikes at goblin mcgoblin, the shot is parried! Goblin mc goblin stabs urist mchammerdwarf in the head with her sword, tearing apart the brain)

No matter how many times i savescum my 3 men army always gets wasted by the goblins.

Any way to stop this? I saved right at the ambush so im not sure what to do.
Is there a tool i can use to kill off the goblins (My militery doesnt seem to be ready yet.)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Civilization screen.
« on: November 22, 2011, 08:32:01 pm »
I just embarked.

Should the civilization screen only display one dwarven civilization if i am in reach of other civilizations?

Or are they only added once the diplomat meets with my leader? I just want a nice area with acess to all races.

DF Suggestions / More types of injuries
« on: December 08, 2010, 07:55:19 pm »
Why not more types of injuries (a suppliment to my "How organ injuries should work" thread)

Like for example right now to suffocate from a lung injury has to be both lungs damaged to the point of no longer functioning, why not make a throacic cavity so sucking chest wounds and collasped lungs are possible?

How about more hazards in general, as in more "MInor" injuries that require treatment (I only play adventurer mode) Like for example the ability to stop bleeding with a bandage or something.

And what happened to the old throat wounds? Renember that, when throat wounds caused suffocation in 40D?
Now that never happens, like the throat doesnt controll breathing like it used to, bit of a shame, i loved caving throats in with my hammer!

DF General Discussion / Anyone else find these bugs annoying?
« on: November 14, 2010, 06:09:16 pm »
First of all the new militery system is a pain, I cant figure it out

Secondly that annoying "Water needed to make farm plots on soil" problem wasnt fixed yet.

What else I find REALLY annoying is how you cant figure the militery system at all.

I wish I had a save of a mature fort, starting out is impossible for me, i NEVER had any forts last over a year, they have no rooms, just one big ass square with beds in it, rooms are hard for me as I get all this stone I cant use, and I cant make a stockpile as if I try and dig out a area for stone I only make more :/

« on: September 16, 2010, 10:05:24 am »
I am not really sure where to put this actually but I noticed on the bug tracker when it lists and you can change the filter you can select the version number and 0.31.14 is listed there.

Bug? or something else?

DF General Discussion / Anyone else find some errors kinda funny?

Urist Mcbaby cancels clean self: too insane for example

"Nemesis Unit Load Failed" sounds like what happens when the elves befriend dwarves.

DF Suggestions / Adventurer mode "Vomit" button.
« on: August 30, 2010, 07:04:47 pm »
A button to vomit at will would be a funny idea (if food poisoning and rotting will ever be added)

You would press a "Vomit" key (is the v key even used in adv mode? I cant renember) then the direction you wish to vomit in.

Bulemic dwarves anyone?

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / How to catch myself on fire?
« on: August 20, 2010, 01:25:47 pm »
sitting IN A FIRE does melt my fat off but how could i light MYSELF on fire? even with a leatehr loincloth dropped in some fire trying to make it ignite so I could throw it at elves or whatever, the leather loincloth just slowly degraded and didnt ignite.

How would I go about catching myself on fire?

In fact I tried to burn a tavern down by igniting the trees near it but so far all that happened was the wall became "warm" whoop de do.

DF Suggestions / Ability to attack yourself
« on: August 05, 2010, 05:48:41 pm »
I know this idea sounds just strange but think of the possibilities!

Urist McHungry severing his own arm to eat.

Urist Mcinfected amputating his own foot to survive.

Urist McMelencholy commiting suicide in the militery by getting his crossbow and shooting himself.

Urist Mcadventurer Commiting suicide after being caught by elves.

Urist Mcpirate gouging his own eye.

it would have alot of strange possibilities, In adv mode you get a list of what body part to atack.
