DF Modding / How to select from multiple races for fortress mode

I am using this this mod http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=140725.0 and it has more than one playable race. how do I get to pick what I play as in fort mode? because I started a fort but ended up as the Talyxians without any sort of prompt to pick or anything. how do I play as the other races instead?
