Tilesets and Graphics / Tileset creation and transparencies
« on: July 01, 2017, 01:32:26 pm »
I've been working on making a tileset that suits my tastes mostly by ripping things i like out of other tilesets. That works fine until i get to the bit where i want to add new tiles of my own. I try to grab a shade of grey from another tile and it's.. dark grey. Same as any other lighter shade. Obviously it's using some sort of transparency mask but when i check the color in photoshop it's just the grey. and no other alpha blending info or anything to that effect.

For that matter, i notice all of the tilesets have a transparent background to them which, once again, i cannot get the transparency numbers for.

What gives? What am i doing wrong?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / changing the color of layers in a save
« on: August 28, 2014, 10:10:28 am »
ok, i confess. I hate the color of the false adamantite. Microcline can also be green irl so i swap the 7 blue with 7 green and make it green. Easier on the eyes too, still realistic (yes, realism is important to me even with dwarven physics in the game.

how do i mod the save so existing layers change color? I've modded the raws, but.. i have save i like. please help!

I made this because i hated the X's for stairs. so here you go, use if you like. It's just the X, the rest was made by phoebus' tileset generator.

i hope you like it.

DF Gameplay Questions / how do the new hauling / cart systems work?
« on: July 30, 2014, 12:57:55 pm »
Been away from the game a while now - how does one get a cart track to run and dump and so forth? How do you get a dwarf to use a wheelbarrow? Thanks in advance!

DF Modding / Question about walls in tilesets
« on: July 11, 2012, 01:35:28 pm »
I'm trying to figure out how to make my own walls for a tileset - i've noticed the graphics for engraved and non-engraved walls use the same tile. My question is - what quality about the engrave graphics makes them disappear and be 'normal' walls? Is it transparency or something else? If someone could explain the theories behind creating wall graphics i'd greatly appreciate it, and i'd release my finished product to the community :)

DF General Discussion / anyone done this before?
« on: October 18, 2011, 04:50:29 pm »
Just wondering if this would work.. create a zone, make it a pasture. Build a raising bridge in the zone. Attach lever. Pasture animals. Pull lever. Animals go flying? (i'd test it but uh.. can't right now)

DF Suggestions / Heads on pikes/spears
« on: April 03, 2011, 05:32:03 pm »
I need the ability to put the heads of invaders on spears as a taunt/warning to said invaders. Elves, goblins, trolls, demons... there need to be a way to cut the heads off the corpses and stick them on an upright spear or spike and let it slowly rot. Come on, dwarves have been known to kill each other to make artifacts out of the bones of the one they murdered... this is totally acceptable, so should rotting head fetishes be.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / the super-soldier thread
« on: March 30, 2011, 09:03:44 pm »
Hi all. After playing for a year or so i've finally come up with something to contribute to the community of dwarf fortress: The Super-Soldier Dwarf Program.

At some point everyone who spends any time enjoying this game learns of the "danger room" - a method which trains any dwarf subjected to it into a legendary armor user/shield user/dodger/weapon user. I tried this myself, and while it was fun for awhile, i decided against ever doing it again because it made the military aspect of the game a major yawn. This was punctuated with one dwarf killing two forgotten beasts at once. I went a bit overboard and had two squads of these danger-room trained dwarves all in adamantite armor with adamantite weapons. Such a dwarf turns out to be indestructible.

I then had a thought... danger rooms may ruin the fun of the military for some, but there's still potential for fun to be had by people who have turned their noses up at it in the past. Enter the super-soldier program. It's a simple idea: Make a danger room. Use its behavior that has been described as an exploit, a bug... and make it viable. You train one dwarf with it at a time. If an ambush or siege comes, you send the one dwarf out. He/she alone gets the armor and the weapons, and racks up quite a kill list. This thread is where i will post the exploits of my super-soldiers.

My first subject is Asmel BelalKubuk. She's odd amongst female dwarves because she keeps her hair shorn. That's right, she's completely bald BY CHOICE. Should she ever perish, i shall post her kill count here. If you the public also choose to implement the super-soldier program... please post your super soldier's kills as well. Amusing battle stories also work.

Strike the earth! and when enemies come knocking send out your one-dwarf-army.

DF Suggestions / for the love of god, implement goblin camp's UI
« on: February 13, 2011, 01:12:01 am »
Oh great toady, thou who hast destroyed days and weeks of my life with this entertaining bounty... hear my plea and behold the prototype for how it should be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mm-dPes5NgE

In all seriousness, this would boost the playability of DF by a large amount and it's fairly simple. The menu hotkeys should stay put, of course.. but this is an excellent, crisp, and effective UI. Please give it a large amount of consideration. Thanks!

DF Suggestions / Love the game but...
« on: January 19, 2011, 07:55:28 am »
Toady! Please please please make things work right before you keep on adding all these other new features! Hospitals are so AWESOME but they don't work completely.. need to be able to make casts! Dwarves without feet or legs should be able to use crutches! Not suture with adamantite or dress wounds with adamantite cloth!

And soap.. please fix soap. Making soap is the spammiest thing possible. They try to pick it up, they can't. Repeat. A lot. Infections happen because doctors don't use soap to clean wounds and.. ugh.

/vent

please! love the game, love the new features, but old ones are still in need of desperate attention!

DF General Discussion / catapults - what am i missing?
« on: May 31, 2010, 02:26:00 am »
besides the GROUND? i can't hit freaking anything with a catapult. Normally whatever i fire just sails to the edge of a map. Aren't they supposed to be able to fire over walls? Haven't seen that one either. Has anyone gotten these things to work or am i just wasting my time?

DF Gameplay Questions / the steam titan war rages on
« on: May 27, 2010, 12:29:20 am »
my military is thirsty, to the point of... when i reload the game, they die of thirst rather quickly. I got a bit too obsessed with building the collapsing system to kill the thing and so.. yeah, dying dwarves.

At this point i'm running out of ideas. I can't get them to run to a water source or the food stockpiles (as the titan is between them and the fort) and they won't run to a water source i designate.

Crap, i'm even ok cheating just to make them not thirsty. Is there anything i can do? This is like, a super elite military squad that's dying of thirst and.. it's not soemthing i want to happen.

DF Gameplay Questions / the unbeatable steam titan
« on: May 25, 2010, 06:11:02 pm »
Its been a season now and he still won't die. My dwarves are getting good training off of him, at least 3 have gone from novice to axe/hammer lord by now. My question is.. will it ever die? it's in the way. It's not killing anyone, and the merchant guards are having fun, but good lord. I can't collect my wood! Anyone know how to kill this thing?

things are set up as normal: they have ammo assigned, there's an arsenal dwarf who has nothing to do, i made quivers--even though there's no place to equip them on the military EQ screen - this seems to be the biggest problem i can see as a possible cause. There's an archery range. Most of the time, though, they don't equip a crossbow or anything of the like. This is driving me nuts. I want murder holes. I can't use them. Any suggestions?

DF Gameplay Questions / healed dwarves won't leave hospital
« on: May 11, 2010, 11:00:28 pm »
their wounds have healed to the point of just having scars, if i remove the bed they are sleeping in they'll go do one job, then go right back to resting in the hospital. How do i get them to get working again?
