DF Adventure Mode Discussion / No slab? WTH?
« on: February 21, 2012, 06:50:14 pm »
In my current world there was only 1 (ONE) necromancer... In the legends he's listed as the creator of 4 of the 5 existing artefacts (4 useless books). The last artefact of course is the slab with the secrets of life and death!
All the artefacts are listed as "stored in *whatevername*.

I spent a couple of hours depleting the tower of all the corpses, kiting them outside and shooting rocks at them, then throwing the corpses away so they wouldn't get reanimated...
Killed the necromancer (on the 2nd floor) easily... and the tower is completely devoid of slabs! Indeed, I only found 2 of the 4 books that were supposed to be there... what gives?
The 2nd floor has stairs up, but the 3rd floor is only air, so you can't actually go there.

Any ideas? Am I missing something?

DF General Discussion / Cannibal elves?
« on: April 02, 2011, 04:49:09 am »
Hi, every now and then I see on this forum references to elves eating corpses... is it some kind of long-standing joke, appropriate racism (only appropriate because they're bloody elves of course!) or actual in-game behaviour?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Disappearing elves?
« on: March 31, 2011, 06:58:30 am »
I built a drowning depot (water drops in from the roof, manually pumped from an adjacent murky pool, nothing fancy) for my dear elven merchants who angered me by not bringing giant eagles as gifts (actually they did not bring a single animal...), set a dorf happily pumping cleansing blue liquid inside the depot (locked doors of course), and... after drowning on and off for a while (water was not 7/7 everywhere), they just disappeared! With all their stuff, and animals and everything!

Has it ever happened to you?
I'm on version 31.25

DF Adventure Mode Discussion / Invinci-blocker?
« on: September 12, 2010, 07:57:12 am »
I noticed that in Deon's Genesis mod you can play as a Naga adventurer; I don't really like snakemen so at first I overlooked the fact that it has 4 ARMS... And then a little idea popped into my mind:
What happens if I build an adventurer that holds 3 shields at the same time?

Basically, an unstoppable war-machine! Even when gangbanged by 10+ enemies, no hits pass through the Shield Wall... Only thing to fear is melting by fire (but dragonfire gets always blocked) or FB syndromes!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Nicknamed dwarves referenced in artifacts
« on: September 07, 2010, 04:37:20 pm »
I just noticed that dwarves referenced in artifacts (but I guess also in engravings and staues) always have the correct nickname, even if you change it after the artifact has been made: is it normal?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Amazing military performance
« on: September 05, 2010, 08:49:02 pm »
Ok, long story short:
- military composed of 10 axedorfs and 10 sworddorfs, all in steel (+ silk coat)
- involuntary breach of HFS (84 levels below surface) while looking for light blue stuff
- a legendary miner distracted the vanguard of the denizens, decapitating 2 of them before getting gangbanged
- in the meanwhile, the military disregarded my order to station at the top of the staircase descending to HFS to regroup: they started going down said stairway, one by one.

I expected Fun.

My casualties, in the end? 2 miners, 3 axedorfs, 2 sworddorfs.

Their casualties? 100.

Since they didn't seem inclined to come up to visit anymore, my dorfs just sealed their way in and went about business as usual.

P.S.: does is matter that the fort is called Anusbrains?

Hey esteemed and revered fortress designers,
I find myself in a bit of a conundrum: my awesome fortress is fine, entertaining and thriving. I regularly repel sieges, titans and dragons, my military is top-notch with adamantine equipment, so no FUN from that (at most I lose a couple woodcutters to ambushes but nothing else). Everyone (111 dorfs) is AT LEAST content: the least happy of all is a baby who on dwarftherapist is shown as "content" with 95! So unless I start to seriously, intentionally mismanage no tantrum spirals to be had here...

My problem is: I cannot abandon it and revisit it with an adventurer: the game crashes on save, I think while unloading stuff... The save game is intact, and every time I abandon it crashes before completing the task... This is bad, I was looking forward to visiting it with an adventurer!

So, what should I do to make the fortress disappear in a glorious conflagration?
- I am already building a 4-pump-per-level stack to flood the world (painful grind, water is 40 levels down...)
- I have not breached any cave yet (I'm a very careful miner)
- I have (obviously) not breached HFS
- I am NOT going to pump magma up 80 levels, as much as I'd LOVE to [side note: is it possible to gen a world where magma is more accessible? I always tend to find it VERY deep and the pump stack building process is very painful...]

Unleash your creativity!
