DF Modding / Cheat Mods >.>
« on: March 15, 2012, 03:55:52 pm »
So in previous versions of DF, when I just wanted to goof around, I could modify the files so that my Smelter could spit our Adamantine or Iron or Steel with no input needed.

However, those edits do not seem to be working anymore. Does anyone know of a way to get this to work again? :(

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / The Dwarf That Didn't Exist
« on: April 06, 2011, 09:53:19 pm »
So I was watching my dwarves do their thing as per usual when I got an announcement that a dwarven baby had died of dehydration. I immediately went to my announcements screen and zoomed to the location only to find that it was in the middle of my dining hall. However, there was no corpse. I then went to my unit list and found the baby under the deceased creatures and looked at its relationships to find out who its mother was. From there I looked at her information and saw that she was "unhappy" and that she "has been dehydrated lately".  I attempted to recenter on her, but the game would not allow me to do so. I then went to my unit list and searched through it page by page for the mother dwarf, but she wasn't listed anywhere (not even under the deceased dwarves).

Anyone else had anything weird like this happen?

TL;DR baby dwarf died and its mother apparently doesn't exist anywhere on the map.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Creepy Outpost Liason
« on: April 05, 2011, 06:27:55 pm »
So my Outpost Liason just arrived at my fort.  Rather than going to meet with my Duchess or Mayor, he proceeded to go into the bedroom of one of my dwarves and simply sit there staring at a dwarven child.

Pedo much?

DF Modding / Mod Question
« on: September 20, 2010, 10:27:06 pm »
I was thinking earlier while doing some yard work about Dwarf Fortress and the lumber industry in it. I was hoping someone might be able to tell me what parts, if any of this, would be possible via modding.

Trees only produce one log in DF and each log can only create one thing, but in the real world a single tree can produce enough wood to make many many items.

So I was thinking, what if one modded trees so when chopped down they produce a single Felled Tree which then must be taken to a shop where it is broken down into a number of logs?

I then thought about the mechanics of dragging around a felled tree. They're big and bulky. Perhaps it could be modded so work animals (horses, donkeys, mules, elephants) could be trained to carry/drag the felled trees to the shop. They could be assigned to wood cutters and follow them around to help drag the trees back.

But then, I don't know what parts if any of this could be done via mod and what would have to be done in the programming of the game by Toady. So, again, if someone could tell me what parts are possible via mod that would be cool.

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Learning Curve
« on: September 15, 2010, 10:34:30 pm »
I just came across this by chance but felt everyone here would love it. I've often described DF as such: "Some games have a steep learning curve. Dwarf Fortress has a learning sheer cliff-side."

This image is a perfect representation thereof.

Yeah, the name sucks. :P

I wanted to do a community game fit for newbies, so I made this game. It's a good embark location, I think. Elephants wander by occasionally, but they seem content to mind their own business. Only hostiles to come by so far have been a few Kobolds which were quickly eaten. The embark location is a volcano near a temperate forest with Marble underground. No river, but plenty of lakes.

So, basically, if you want to play, feel free to post and I'll add you to the list! :D

Oh! Rules for those new:
1. No using cheat programs :P
2. 1 Save-Scum per turn to be used as you wish. (Save it for catastrophic failure, I'd recommend)
3. Turns are 1 in-game year from Spring to Spring. When the next Spring comes up, pause game, save it, upload it, and I'll throw a link into this post.
4.  We'll keep going around through players, adding new people as they wish to join. When last person's turn is complete, it will come back to the top.
5.  Select an available dwarf to represent 'you'. Rename it to your name or somesuch.
6.  Following your turn, you'll need to make a post to this thread from the point of view of your dwarf about any events that happened in the fort during your tenure. Screenshots are encouraged!
7.  Oh, and you have 1 IRL week to complete your turn.

My diary entry will be coming later this afternoon/evening.

Players:
1.  Briggs (first turn completed) Diary #1
2.  Still Standing (first turn completed) Journal #1
3.  TheJackal (first turn completed) Journal #1
4.  LAAT501legion (first turn completed) Journal #1 (Multiple posts)
5.  Fivex (first turn completed) Journal #1
6.  Lafiel (Active)
7.  MarineMorton
8.  BurningLed
9.  Eagle_Eye

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Elves and Underground Wood Cutting
« on: August 05, 2010, 07:56:06 am »
I know elves get all pissy if you cut down trees on the surface, but is the same true of subterranean woods? Does cutting down Fungiwood and Towercaps count towards the 100 trees when they give that demand?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Crutches?
« on: July 02, 2010, 01:00:38 am »
I've got a dwarf in my fort whose left foot was taken off by a Kobold. She's alive (and surprisingly ecstatic despite her serious wound), but she just lays in the hospital all day everyday. Do crutches not work, or something? My hospital has a full supply of crutches but the dwarf hasn't been given one or anything.

DF Gameplay Questions / Nobles
« on: June 06, 2010, 06:41:58 pm »
My game is about 12 years in (DF2010) but I've not had any nobles show up. I've got over 100 dwarves, but all I have is Expedition Leader, Chief Medical, Captain of the Guard, book keeper, broker, and Sheriff.  What do I need to do to get more nobles? Particularly the Dungeonmaster?
