I'm just saying; only really major things like pathing and hauling are higher voted. Just disambiguating these four tiles would bring about an absolute revolution in DF graphics:

15 ☼ Unmined Gem Cluster*, Rough Gems and Raw Glass, unmined bituminous coal*, mined bituminous coal*, currency symbol, masterpiece quality symbol, spider webs, turtle*, 'sun' symbol in engravings, gear assemblies, fireballs

88 X Bin, stone floodgate, shop post, building footprint, nausea/winded/stunned/unconscious/migrant indicator, text, up/down stairs, keyboard cursor

126 ~ Unfinished rough stone road, river, magma, flows, dirt road, farm plot under construction, sand, furrowed soils, blood smear, guts

247 ≈ Rough stone road or bridge, water, river, lava, glob, fat, tallow, farm plot, furrowed soil, vomit, blood pools, sea foam, others?

Edit: I'm not dismissing the awesome work Baughn is doing towards font support, but even that will be limited by other graphics issues.

DF Modding / Tree Saplings - Confusing by design?

Some trees have a [SAPLING] tag, some dont. But they all produce saplings.

And seemingly only 4 specific trees allow use of the [SAPLING_TILE], [SAPLING_COLOR], and [DEAD_SAPLING_COLOR] tags...

I'm confused... Is this how its supposed to be or is it broken? O.o

Recently I've started giving my dorfs squad insignia by using the extended characters that show up as icons rather than letters. It really helps figure out who goes where! :)

DF Modding / Rough Gem tile - Where in the raws to change it?

The wiki indicates that rough gems can be remapped from the ☼ tile, but I cant figure out where to make this change... Halp? :)

I know this is covered by "full graphics support" but an interim measure that would really help would be to put the tiles used for the world map into their own separate sheet.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed how DF strains under path calculation when units are traversing caverns. Maybe tweak the generation to produce large open caves instead of so many narrow twisty little tunnels everywhere?

I'm sure this has been suggested but as usual I cant find it amidst the sea of posts :P

In most of the awesome tilesets there are extensive graphics including decayed and skeletal states but they are not used for corpses rotting away. In fact corpses dont show up at all, just the letter for that creature...? Also applies to a lot of caged animals.

When you examine them, they should be inscribed with some details of how the creature died!

It is a most excellent way to display the heads of your fallen enemies!
