DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Exploiting Bucklers for armorsmith exp.

I have noticed that bcklers take only two-three frames to make, even for a no-skilled armorsmith, and that this make it way too easy to get a high-skilled armorsmith.


Does anyone else consider buckler-churning an exploit?

And the seige of the goblins in the early winter of 1071.


INstead of some gallery of screenshots, I decided that this battle would require a movie.

Well since the movie goes so damn fast, I'll give you a list of what happens:

1. Carver, my wrestler/operator/Greatest warrior and his squad are sent on a suicide mission, I only really expected him to survive, but, alas, hi9s entire squad are lazy bastards that can't show up to a fight.

2. After seeing that Carver is royally fucked, I equip my two legendary miners and send them out, they kill a group, get mobbed, die.


3. Goblins flood into the fortress, my elite marksdwarf, legendary metalsmith and furnace operator are able to beat back a horde of them while some VERY, VERY, VERY lucky war dog trainer/lover goes to the front gate and starts having his dog rip goblins up.

4. I cheeck all the dead, the rest of those 7,000 frames are me chasing them off and writing "woo!" into a wall.

So I'm finally starting to play Fortress mode (I've only been playing adventurer) and I really cant seem to do anything without failing within a few hour's play.


So could any of you people provide me with reasonable builds and how to get good starting equipment? ( No, not the Dwarfipedia guides)

So let's say we have a civilian dwarf of which is 1 exp from becoming a masterful (blank)master, what if he was not drafted and he gained that 1 exp and turned masterful, would he be auto-drafted?

DF Gameplay Questions / Retired adventurer turn ruler?

I had no idea this could happen, one of my very, very old adventurer I retired because he lost a limb fighting a titan (one I played in 1050, the year now is 1063-64) Is now a co-ruler of a Human country, how does this end up happening? Is it because he was in such good favor with the king?

DF Bug Reports / Perma-Siege due to caged goblins.

Has anyone seen this before? I had a siege back about three years ago and a couple (two) godlins got trapped in cages, and later killed by my military, but now, I have been in "Siege Mode" since the siege happened originaly, and I find it to be very game-breaking to never get an immigration, siege, or merchant passing-by.


So year, mark it down and the like, and help me to find a possible solution.

DWARVES BEING INTERUPTED THROUGH PERFECTLY SAFE WALLS

RED: STUPID BASTARD THAT ABSOLUTELY REFUSES TO SHOOT HIS HAND-MADE BALLISTA AT A CLUMP OF ENEMIES

YELLOW: SAID HAND MADE BALLISTA

PURPLE: 100% SAFE FORTIFICATIONS

LIGHT BLUE: GROUP OF GOBLINS THAT HAVE ALREADY MOVED OUT OF RANGE BECAUSE OF DUMBASS ABOVE.


Oh, and as an added bonus, my best markdwarf, the green circle, has decided to stand in one spot swinging his hammerbow instead of refilling his ammo because he seems to think he can hit them from afar with his fist.

DF Bug Reports / WHY ARE YOU STARVING

Well, I recently got my bookkeeper and Mananger, and the economy is started, ect, ect.

But Now all of ym dwarves are starving to death, except my legendaries and nobles.

There's plenty of food, and they all have enough money to eat, but all my dwarves do is work until they starve to death, usually while sleeping.

Also, they are still drinking, just not eating.

What the hell is this, eh?

Blue is the brave solider who was injured by an elephant whilst training, red circles are the buckets, and, as you can see, one is right next to him, and the other is off in the furniture stockpile.

Tell me what to do, please, he's a great solider that I dont want to lose due to some stupid ass bug.

DF Bug Reports / Inflate Error -3

I was just recently playing on Adventure mode with my god like Pikemaster/Axe Lord/Mace Lord/Elite Archer.

I just tried to save before confronting a dragon, but the game quit on me. And now whenever I try to start up any mode of play, I get this message and DF quits on me.

I am playing in a totally unmodded DF. Can anyone help?
