DF Gameplay Questions / Gigantic Food Stacks
« on: October 17, 2012, 01:44:50 pm »
Greetings,

I have a question regarding barrels etc. In my food stockpiles are large ammounts of food which are not properly stored inside of containers. For example a stack of 'Bushleave Stew [70]' lies around in the open. Is there a container large enough to store this amount of food or can I break up this stack somehow? I fear the rats and hamsters may be dining like kings on my freaking valuable stew. (18.200 basic value, seriosly? ^^)

Thanks!

DF Gameplay Questions / No Clothes from Wool Cloth?
« on: October 14, 2012, 06:30:46 am »
Greetings,

I have a problem regarding my clothing industry. My dwarfes are not able to produce clothes from wool cloth. I have an ample supply of "Sheep Wool Cloth" and "LLama Wool Cloth" but when I'm trying to produce something from Cloth I receive the error: "Needs 1 unused Plant Cloth".

Why is that and how can I produce clothing from wool cloth?

Thanks for any help!

DF Gameplay Questions / Create a whole planet
« on: August 05, 2010, 11:49:18 am »
Yeah well the title says it all. As for now only regions are created with deserts on top (or bottom) and glaciers on bottom (or top). Is there a way to alter the parameters in a way to create a normal planet with glaciers on top and bottom and deserts in the middle? This would be cool... I looked up the different parameters but did not find the answer, so maybe you guys can help me out ;)

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / House-in
« on: August 04, 2010, 08:36:59 am »
Greetz,

after I created a new world I wanted to make a few experiments. First of all I wanted to see how a human settlement looks like. So I embarked into a human town. Right on top of the roof. Great ;) But at least there was a staircase. All in all it seems like a cool idea to embark into a present settlement. Lot's of meatshields and I think FUN is guaranteed. My second experiment had something to do with drainage. I thought about how to drain a part of the sea. I thought something like this:

wwwww
wXXXw
wXFXF
wXXXw
wwwww

w = water
X = Wall
F = Floor

As you may see I wanted to dismantle the floor to the right and sink the walls into the ocean. Then I could drain the inside with pumps and dig into the ocean. But my second experiment did raise some problems. Look here:

A thriving human settlement with some small houses. I digged away all the sand under the house and channeld away what was holding it.

But this turned out to be a bad idea:

Poor fella ~

I thought, this does not look good. Let's check the cellar.

LOT'S of wood. Sweet... But unfortunatly the building was gone.

So, does anyone know what would happen to an iron wall which becomes "caved-in" into the ocean? Will it turn back into iron blocks as well? I will have to do another experiment, but I thought I could raise the question before I try it.
If this would not work, do you guys see another possibility to drain a part of an ocean (which does not freeze)?

DF Gameplay Questions / Sand Pile
« on: July 26, 2010, 11:44:49 am »
Greetings,

I'm searching for a way to create a stockpile which only saves sandbags. Problem here is that the sandbags are saved as furniture. And I can'T make a stockpile for bags with only sand in it. Or can I?
Any thoughts on this one?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Floor for dummies!?
« on: July 20, 2010, 04:35:30 am »
Greets,

Is there a way to create a buildable floor ontop of water without draining it? Fe on rivers? If I'm right then a floor will fill a tile when there was no open space under the tile. Unfortunatly water is "something" under the floor. I may have to drain it or redirect the river?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Murdered in cold blood!
« on: July 17, 2010, 05:00:04 am »
My mayor is a total lunatic! He murders everyone whose sleeping in his bed! What should I do? Up until now he has struck down two sleeping dwarfs. Is this some kind of death sentence because I don't have set up any cages yet? Does anyone other ever have had such an incident? If this goes on all my dwarfs will be killed!?

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Some questions
« on: July 15, 2010, 07:19:09 am »
Greetings!

Well I'm new to dwarf fortress and have some questions which I couldn't clarify via the Wiki up until now.

(1) How can I dispose of corpses? Visitors of my fortress are standing kneedeep in rotting goblin corpses and nobody seems to care. I can't dump them, i can't throw them on refuse and I can't throw them on a graveyard. Why?

(2) Reports coming in that someone can't wash himself because he can't reach a certain area. This is known bug I think, but should it still be occuring in 31.10? Or do I have to consider something regarding this cleaning thing? I have a well, or do they need some kind of washingroom to clean themselfes?

(3) A while back a Beaverman visited my fort. But it wasn't your ordinary mad beaverman which kills everything in sight. It was a diplomat. He entered my fortress and I thought he wanted to talk with my mayor. But on his way in he smashed my trade depot and 2 weapon racks. I thought WTF? Ok but I can't kill him in the end it's a diplomat. I didn't wanted to create an incident and let it slip. He entered the lower parts of my fortress, smashed two doors on his way to my dining room and set down.
I thought, seriously WTF this is an unpleasant visitor. But he didn't attack any dwarfs and I thought, well as long as he just sits there... maybe he waits for an audience. Then I forgot about him. Maybe 1 month later he started to go mad as he entered my sleeping area and smashed any furniture on sight. In his rampage he entered a room and began with the demolition work. I thought, "Now I've got ya!" and build a wall to trap him in the room. After he was done he left the room. On his way out he smashed the wall I built.

There was no way around it, I gathered my squads and attacked him. It was a fierce fight, and one of my 30 dwarfs died in the action. What a fat basterd...
So my actual question, may I face a raging beaverman siege in the near future because I killed their diplomate???
