« on: February 25, 2012, 11:51:30 am »
When you compare them to swords of metal, I say this because I just found my first batch of obsidian that I can harvest without causing some red, hot, liquid !!fun!!

« on: February 24, 2012, 06:14:51 pm »
so apparently my recent adventurer got killed by a were monitor twisted into human form.

Now I know this means the monitor lizard, but I was scraching my head until I googled it. It would be kinda nice if it was monitor lizard instead of just monitor.

DF Gameplay Questions / Is it even worth it to have a fortress guard?
« on: February 05, 2012, 09:34:57 pm »
It seems that all fortress guards ever do is kill and imprison my dwarves for stupid things. Right after I assigned a fortress guard he started punching about 4 people to death for things they did years ago.

DF Gameplay Questions / How do I properly set up a hospital
« on: January 23, 2012, 01:05:12 am »
Ive got a few doctpors, some beds, some tables, soap. However, I dont know how to reserve materials for hospital use. Whenever I look at hospital information it says it has 0/ (whatever number) of supplies. I tried making a custom stockpile but that didnt really work.

DF Suggestions / mine me more ore ye treehumpen elf!
« on: June 20, 2011, 06:21:10 pm »
Ever wanted to dig out some lava without losing any of your legendary miners? need some cannon fodder during a siege but dont want to make your dwarves sad? want a use for those stupid elfs?

I give you, SLAVES!

if you capture an enemy in a cage a dwarf with the slavemaster labor on can turn him into a slave. dwarves put as slavemasters will need a weapon though. The higher the slavemaster skill is the more slaves you can have before there is a chance of a slave rebellion (explained further down)

Slaves will live in a slave quarters, its a zone saying where the slaves will sleep (it doesnt need beds although this will make the slaves unhappier) and they can do what is designated as unskilled work. such as wood burning, woodcutting, farming, hauling, butchery, tanning, smoothing, military, and mining. However, crafting can only be done by dwarves and slaves never reach legendary.  slaves also cant have moods.

If you enslave members of a race that think slavery is unethical then they will get mad at you. and possibly siege you.

Slaves are permanently capped at unhappy. they can never be content, happy, or estastic. the unhappier slaves are the more likely they are to revolt. the number of slaves on the map  also increasas the chances of revolt. also slaves eat less than your dwarves and they drink water. dwarves also dont get unhapyy when slaves are killed.

whenever there is a slave revolt a large portion of the slaves on a map will suddenly turn hostile and use whatever they were working with to attack your dwarves. (so woodcutters will have axes and miner will fight with picks) the slave revolt stops whenever all teh revolting slaves are dead. Note: salvemasters have a chance of making a slave stop revolting when hitting them. this is based on skill level.

whenever I try run dwarf fortress.exe. I get the error message. "side by side configuration is incorrect" (pharaphrased) this only happens when I download off of SDL

When I download off of Legacy I can run it fine. However there are no tilesets for Legacy and I find it nearly impossible to tell whats happening onscreen without a tileset. can anyone help me? Im running windows vista

I have a starting fortress that will mainly be supplied by my hunter. ( I have a butcher, a bone carver for more arrows (and crafts), and a tanner because I dont like wasting things.) but I also have a farmer for the long term food supply. I havent tried fish as a source of food.

So the question is, what is the best source of food for a fortress just starting out?

Well as of current there is only one "build your own settlement" gamemode, and that is dwarf fortress. Will there be any other races that you can play as in the future? will we be able to build our own towns as a human and our own dark towers as goblins etc?

Well I wanted to try an ARR in an adventure mode since most of them are of dwarf fortress mode This is my first attempt at doing this and constructive criticism would be appreciated

Introduction:

Dear journal (ive heard a few people whispering this was a diary. Nonsense! it is a journal... which is much manlier than a diary!)

Ive grown bored of peasant life. I want to fall out of the routine of go milk the cows, get raided by barbarians, go tend to the crops, get stolen from by soldiers chasing the barbarians, herd the sheep, its the same old boring routine.

So ive er "borrowed" some equipment from a few armorsmiths and weaponsmiths. My friend, Leroy, decided he wanted to come with me. I guess ill let him stay with me.  Although he is a bit useless at the moment considering I only borrowed enough for one person oh well if worse comes to worse i can always run away and trip him.

So off we embark. To ADVENTURE!

DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / How to survive the glacier.
« on: August 06, 2010, 11:47:12 pm »
recently i started a fortress and unkowingly put it in a very cold region. which means no underground farms, and my hunter ran out of ammo, and my main source of food was going to be underground food. Any thing youll can say to help? ive got a bucher a hunter, a brewer, 2 miners, a farmer, a woodcutter, and a woodcutter. so anything i can do? a way to melt the ice in the lakes? just gather plants food? make some more bolts? make my miners go on a killing spree against nature?
