DF Dwarf Mode Discussion / Milking GCS?

Can GCS be milked or is it still usable in silk factory by other means?
I got one, let it out behind fortifications, but the bastard isn't spitting any silk. :/

I used to have massive silk industries in previous versions of the game a few years ago.
Though, I think I pitted the bastard then and it was mad as hell. Started spitting right away.
This one was just levered out of cage. No dwarven contact thus far.

DF Suggestions / Carpal Tunnels and Trading

How do you deal with the carpal tunnel syndrom inducing depot trading?

I got loads of crafts to sell and I have to designate each and every one of the items to bring to the depot separately, and yet again to sell or offer them. Why not have an option to EXCLUDE items or "select all"?

Can't this be made more healthy? If there ever was an award for bad interface design, this game deserves it.

Just noted one of my milita captains has 426 days prisontime due for 2 murders and vandalism. What's your record prisontime sentence for dwarven criminals?

DF Gameplay Questions / Where's all my FB's gone?

I just started an Untamed Wilds river, volcano and brackish lake combo environment, now year 6,
pop around 100, fort value 7.5 million and I have not seen a single FB. I've dug tons of adamantine too.

This world is in year 56, due to everybody dying out, so I decided to end worldgen early to get
all civs. Some of my oldest dorfs were born in time before time. :D

Anyway, I maxed the civs, the titan numbers to 1000, and other megabeast numbers to 100,000 both
in the worldgen in the hopes of getting plenty of fun. But sofar I've had none of it from FBs!

My pop cap is 100 and i've already hit it. Got a baroness and trained some war elephants. A couple
of small sieges have taken place in year 4-5, so gobbos are not dead yet, although I checked legends
and the megabeasts were like wiping out a few settlements per year in the world.

Earlier games have brought me upto 3 megabeasts or FBs per season. This world should have maximum
amounts of fun. So where's mah megabeasts at?

Are the DF 0.31.12 (July 25, 2010) version and other prior Linux versions available somewhere for download? Bay12games seems to have removed them from the website due to some licence issues or something.

Anyone give me a working URL? I'd like to try .12 again with working goblin tower embarks.

DF Gameplay Questions / Burrows for Legendaries

Anybody keep their Legendary dorfs in their separate burrows?

I'm thinking of limiting their movement to a specially protected burrow.

How do medical dorfs act, do they limit their treatments to the people in the same burrow?
What about treating and hauling wounded?
Do legendaries still fetch wounded if they're in a separate burrow?
Do medical dorfs treat dorfs from other burrows and give water, etc?

Having 200+ dorfs and 10-20 legendaries, it seems impossible to protect
all the legendaries all the time without specially limiting their movements into a secure burrow.

I would like to hear of any problems with this arrangement if others have tried it.

DF Suggestions / Butchering babies

How about an option to butcher the babies or at least forcing abortions at the hospital?
I've got 200+ dorfs and they won't stop breeding.. A while back I had 35 children alone.

I wouldn't mind if they got bad feelings for it.

How about Mason/craftworkshop task called "Destroy Rock"?

Would make destroying useless rocks much simpler than having to dump-designaet and haul it all under a bridge.

DF Suggestions / Worldgen with forced sites

Make the worldgen have options to force site creation with features that you want.

For example: Major river, volcano, goblin tower. And various wanted biome areas.

I know such sites are possible, because I had one in 40d, (only with small river and dwarf tower).
I don't care for the consistency of the world as much as long as I get the wanted site and features
for my fortress.

Do volcanism levels prevent the placing of some civilizations?

Namely, I edited my volcano numbers to be 8192 (must have that riverside (major river) volcano) and am having trouble placing them all, so I put volcanism min/max to 100. But now I only seem to get dorf civs and I want them all. (Although the titan numbers might effect things too, I tend to maximize all available fun stuff.)

I suggest reimplementing the goblin towers and cities as embarkable areas. Destroying or taking over them in Fortress mode has been one of the most epic fun times ever. Hasn't been possible since .13-.16.

My king just went alone to greet a Forgotten Beast that came in and got blown to bits. He also turned back to peasant upon death so I disassembled his coffin. Now I only have a duke. -- Is a new king supposed to come from somewhere or am I reduced to a duchy? I became a capitol a while back too. Population is almost 200 where the cap is.

Also, he had no wife nor children apparently.

I've got a ton of elks in cages but can't seem to either tame them or butcher them. I'd like the meat and the skin and bones though. Shouldn't the game allow butchering of these animals somehow?

DF Gameplay Questions / Attracting Magma Men?

I've been pitting humans into my magma pit and one Magma Man has been lurking in somewhat closer, but so far has stayed deep.

Is there any way to attract the magma men and catch one in a cage trap?
I kinda want one for my zoo, although I suspect this is one of those bright ideas that will bring down my fort in a roaring blaze of great balls of fire.
