DF Bug Reports / Metal Bridges
« on: August 29, 2006, 10:57:00 am »
It takes four steel bars to be able to place a 1x7 bridge, but only two are actually used.

DF Bug Reports / Rescued/imprisoned loop
« on: August 24, 2006, 04:27:00 am »
One of my farmers threw a tantrum and punched a few cows, and was sentenced to a beating and 35 days imprisonment. Later I saw him being taken to a bed, ecstatic about being released and rescued, with two broken arms and a mangled lower body. I gave him a nice room to recover in, but a guard came and dragged him out of bed. Turns out he still he 33 days to serve. Halfway to the chains, an agile metalsmith comes flying by, snatches him, and puts him back in bed. This went on for a while until I finally put a statue and a bed next to the chain he was assigned to.

DF Bug Reports / Mechanics never finish linking levers
« on: August 22, 2006, 09:32:00 am »
I've been linking up a bunch of levers, and I have three mechanics devoted to it. Two are novice, one is skilled, but none of them ever finish. They have been linking up the same two levers for a year now. They have no other jobs and I always see them in there working on them. They don't seem to have any trouble building mechanisms or setting up traps, just linking levers.

I just watched my mason who part-times as a mechanic (novice) go in there and finish one first try. I started linking about 6 levers at the same time, and all of the others have been done for quite a while. I am guessing my mason finished the other ones and just hadn't had a chance to take a shot at these two with three "real" mechanics full-timing them.

edit: Dunno if it's relevant, but my error log is 86 lines of "BUILDPATH SAME SQUARE VIOLATION".

DF Bug Reports / Save, load, build channel, crash
« on: August 21, 2006, 08:47:00 pm »
After saving and then loading my game again without exiting, I crash as soon as I hit u on the build screen. If I exit before loading or just load again after crashing, it works fine. It also wouldn't let me make a farm plot bigger than 1x3, but that worked fine after cancelling and trying again.

DF General Discussion / DF speedrun: bridge rush
« on: August 28, 2006, 06:45:00 pm »
I beat the demons in the second year, mid-autumn, 40 dwarves. This can definitely be improved upon, I over-prepared and had a hard time finding enough iron.

I started with 5 unskilled peasants, a proficient mason/architect, and a proficient mechanic. 5 picks, no axes, some food, a couple seeds, lots of beer, no pets. I lost 3 miners to the initial cave river flood (in my first attempt I lost all 5), and a migrant mason to a fey mood.

Here's an overview of my fort, ready for battle:

oh shi

They're taking the bait.

In this fortress, all of the levers are labelled "Pancakes."

Victory: spoilers

Casualties: 1 miner, 2 doors.

DF General Discussion / Bugged barrels from human traders?
« on: August 19, 2006, 02:47:00 am »
I have been buying out every caravan that comes along, bins and everything, and a human caravan showed up recently with a bunch of "( Barrel (Material))" that didn't seem to contain anything. I just figured they were regular empty barrels, and I can always use more of those, so I bought all 10-20 of them.

Now it's almost winter and three dwarves have died of thirst while standing in my main food pile, on top of a bunch of barrels, with Drink as their job. I was totally mystified until I noticed they put the "empty" barrels in that food pile. The barrels claim to contain "()", which has the description "This is a ." so I think they are the cause of my problems. Dwarves seem to stand on top of them and "Drink" but never get any less thirsty. Eventually they go to a different barrel and are fine.

I marked all the leather, crafts, drinks, and food on the trade negotiations screen the year before, so maybe they tried to bring me some stuff that doesn't exist? The humans normally bring a ton of food in barrels, but they only had the bugged barrels when I bought them.
