Forum Games and Roleplaying / A Flexible Mind: A Shadowrun Suggestion Game
« on: September 26, 2015, 12:02:25 am »
A bar of white light greets you as your eyes adjust to the blindingly bright light in front of you. The world is a blur, but after a few moments your vision clears. You find yourself in a cell of some kind, thick steel bars, and an old fashioned lock adorn the steel plated door. The walls of the hallway across from the cell look sterile and white. Your head is spinning, but you think you can hear someone clicking away at a computer just out of view of your cell. Your hands are cuffed, and you're in a white jumpsuit with the numbers '03-118' printed on it. Who are you? What are you doing here? Why are you here? Your last memories are fleeting, but you recall something about focusing on objects before everything went black.

I feel ill, my head is ringing, my palms are sweaty. If the bank weren't on the way home, I wouldn't have even bothered. The line is longer than I'd like. The wide expansive lobby was mostly silent, save for the people actually getting helped, and the faint chit-chat of the people in the far back near the office cubicles. Everything was awash with my migraine, and I felt it getting worse. Security called out, but I wasn't paying attention. The deafening shot from behind changed that, as I span, seeing the guard flop down with a spray of blood, scattering his partially drawn pistol slide across the floor. The man yelled something, but the ringing in my ears blocked it all out. The butt of a shotgun told me everything I needed to know as to what he said.

My head stopped ringing for a moment as I felt a sharp pain from where his shotgun tapped my temple. It was like the blow to my head stopped my migraine, making me feel right again. As I laid on the floor, weakly feeling the man tie my hands together, I asked myself the stupidest existential question I could possibly have asked, who am I?

I'm now on hormones to make the transition to female, and I decided to do a little experiment as I go. I've started taking a picture a day and later on once I have a decent amount of pictures, I'll string them together into a gif. Why? I don't think I've seen many (if any at all) transitions that show every step of the process. This will be a very slow moving project, so I'll only be doing weekly updates.

If anyone has any suggestions for things to do in addition to a dead-on shot, let me know. I wouldn't be against a moving stop motion gif as I'm transitioning, which will be a pain, but it's a once in a lifetime chance to do it.

Lastly, if someone has any random questions about the process, let me know and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

The sound of the alarm next to you jarred you from your slumber. Groggily you shook your head at the notion of getting up, but your alarm insisted, screaming it's blaring tones as you tossed, almost too tired to care. Almost. You slam your hand down on the alarm, shutting it up for today. You sit up from your fluffy otherwise empty queen-sized bed.

Looking up you notice your calender. Empty. Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Absolutely nothing is happening this week. Your decision to be a private investigator is starting to be a bleak choice. A heavy sigh escapes your lips as you push forward, stumbling out of the room in a bit of a daze. With a few short steps down the hall your in the kitchen, and you find yourself slamming your fist down onto the coffee maker, hitting the on button with the fury of a thousand sleeping monkeys, which is to say not all that hard. You grumble as you lean out the front door into the still dark morning and into the mailbox, pulling free the newspaper that the newsboy kindly wedged in there. You quickly swagger back to the dark kitchen, flick a light and start leafing through the pages like it was your job. The fact was that you didn't have a case... In fact you're starting to wonder who you are... What makes you special...

Geez. Getting all existential here.

Spoiler: Who are you? (click to show/hide)

The newspaper oddly has the same headline as yesterday... Damn it, the paperboy pulled a fast one on you and put yesterdays paper in your box. What a dick. Does he have nothing better to do!? What was that headline anyways... 'Hospital Closed for Safety Reasons'. That's right, something about a gas leak... and a two block barricade. It doesn't sound right, but no one can get close.

Well, you read this yesterday... Nothing scheduled... What now?

Life Advice / Finding a voice and keeping it
« on: March 02, 2014, 10:22:19 am »
So I'm going to be going through hormone therapy, but I have a deep male voice and apparently the hormones have little effect on your vocal cords once puberty sets them. I know how to sing with my throat rather than my chest, but I know little of maintaining it outside singing or increasing my range in general. I'm not going the falsetto route because falsetto is rather forced with little control. If I'm going to do it I'm going to want a full range to work with. I'd settle for a passable deep female voice, but I'd like to push myself higher in range once I achieve that.

Any suggestions on how to build up your vocal range and be able to use it in your daily speech?

Creative Projects / Starting in ELECTRONICS!!! (Suggestions needed)
« on: June 06, 2013, 10:13:36 pm »
Hello! It's been a while. Some may know me as that one guy that draws sometimes, but that's not why I made this thread. I'm hoping to get into a technical institute next year, and I figured, 'why not make awesome machines and robots while I'm at it?' So here I am, nearly broke and trying to save up to move to Calgary with no experience in electronics beyond basic theory.

What I need is a basic, cheap project to get the ball rolling. If I can get into the habit of doing something somewhat academic every day then it won't be so crushing when I get back to school. It can be anything from setting up a servo-based claw to programming a microcontroller to spin a servo in intervals. Right now I have no equipment beyond random powertools and screwdrivers. No breadboard, no nothing. ANY help would be immensely appreciated.

Life Advice / Looking for Criticism for a Youtube Channel
« on: January 26, 2013, 06:38:34 pm »
It's been a while since I've been on the forums. While I was away I started a youtube channel for Let's Plays. The problem is that I don't have any comments, only a few views, etc. I have no idea if I'm doing alright, or what I would need to improve.

Here's my channel. Anything constructive would be nice.

Life Advice / Finding horror games with empty voids
« on: October 29, 2012, 01:03:27 am »
I'm trying to find horror games that feed off a fear of depthless voids (Kenophobia), and the unseen things inside it. It doesn't need to be dark to achieve this so much as a feeling of absolute emptiness around you, or ahead of you.

Games like Amnesia just aren't cutting it, with me becoming more and more callous as I play. Without feeding off my specific fears I find myself prepared and ready to counter what the game is throwing at me. If the game plays at my phobias then I won't be prepared at all. I'd prefer ambient horror that tries to scare you with a situation or place rather than a specific object (monsters, etc.).

The one I've found so far is The Stairwell (SCP 087). The graphics aren't fantastic, but I have a hard time moving forward into a limitless expanse without panicking. After about 4 flights I had to stop and was tempted to delete the file for a second. Sure I haven't finished it yet, but it terrified the living crap out of me.

So my question is, anyone know of another game that plays off a fear of nothingness?

General Discussion / Movember (Mustaches, and Beards!)
« on: October 21, 2012, 10:42:02 am »
So it's soon going to be Movember when people grow facial hair, either for prostate cancer fund raising, or for personal enjoyment. Either way I figured that there should be a thread for this in which people planned what they're going to do.

Personally I might try and grow a handlebar mustache and mutton chops. I'll play around with ideas until the start of the month, but there will be chops.

General Discussion / Some quick advice for a picture
« on: September 12, 2012, 11:18:44 pm »
I know that this should be in Creative Projects and maybe even under my art thread, but I wanted some quick advice on what I'm doing right and wrong with my drawing. I'm going out on a date tomorrow and they wanted to see my drawings, so I'm rushing to finish this one by tomorrow evening. Any nitpick would be appreciated.

The crocodile isn't finished, but I'm working on it. I mainly wanted to know if I got the wizard right.

Life Advice / Hopping out of a closet
« on: September 07, 2012, 11:01:50 pm »
To put it simply I need to come out of the closet. I'm a pansexual and I actually want to get out there and date someone. I would go on a dating site, but if I don't clarify it now it might come across as a shock to the people I know. All I want is to let everyone know before I try a dating site.

So I have to ask, how would you go about telling your family and friends that you might start dating another guy?

Creative Projects / Fool's Art Thread: Bi-Weekly Madness (LU:15/09/2012)
« on: September 05, 2012, 10:17:02 am »
So I may not be leaving my city after all, which is kind of lame, but a necessary evil. To get out of this boring city I need to get good enough to be hired as a concept artist. I don't want to rush myself, so this won't be a daily thing so much as a bi-weekly thing. I might make it daily if I wasn't working, but my rent tells me no. I'll also be doing anatomy studies on the side, which I'll also be posting with the bi-weekly picture.

Any suggestions for what to draw would be amazing, and criticism would be appreciated, no matter how small a detail. Be critical when critiquing, I won't get mad if you tell me that I got everything wrong if you're right.

I'll also be making the same post on my dA account to get more suggestions.

Now... any suggestions to start this out?

Creative Projects / An unnamed Guild Wars 2 Comic

So I've been working at a comic for the last month, but only really trying to finish the second page within the last week. Here's what I have so far. Ignore the design whiplash with the characters. I only had reference screenshots for the last few days.

The Daedalus Station was built in 2463 by the CEC to accommodate the new method of orbital mining that has only helped to speed up our expansion into space. Planet cracking as the method is called speeds up mining efforts by at least sixty percent. This lead to a massive demand for trade stations that can easily move from system to system as mining vessels spread outward into the unknown. The Daedalus is the first of these station ships, and if the project is successful we at the CEC are hoping to branch out into the universe with several other station ships.

This station's purpose has and always will be to collect and transport materials from distant planets, but that isn't all it does. Ever since the discovery of rare isotopes buried in the moon of Fenrir III a new medical wing has been constructed to utilize the rarer materials for medical research. Many breakthroughs in the field of medicine have emerged from the research at this station, including the cure for several different forms of cancer. While progress has slowed our hopes have not been dashed as new materials pass through our hands everyday.

The station is equipped with auxiliary thrusters to prevent drifting while in orbit of a star as well as a series of heavy thrusters to travel from system to system as needed. Powering these thrusters are the largest engines ever constructed, the Artemis and Apollo engines, which generate enough energy to power Titan Station three times over! A tethered tram system connects the twin main engines that power the entire ship, allowing faster access for engineers who are needed for the engines' daily maintenance schedule. If for some reason both of the main engines are shut down for repairs there are secondary power supplies located throughout the station to keep everything running while the engineers fix the problem.

It's now the twentieth anniversary of the Daedalus, and it is looking for more crew to join it and the CEC on a journey into the unknown. If you think you have something to contribute please send your applications to the local CEC branch.
