Forum Games and Roleplaying / Anything Can Happen
« on: January 05, 2017, 01:48:07 am »
Some of y'all may've seen this game around before, but for those of you who don't know, Anything Can Happen is a roleplaying game where there is no GM to police it, no rulebook, and no dicerolls (unless you want to, of course; see "no rulebook"). Just play however you want to, and anything you say happens. I fully expect this to devolve into a madhouse by the end of the week. So, without further ado:

ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN

A tall man emerges from the shadows of a run-down harbour town, with a lit cigarette clamped between his teeth. He takes a long drag, and, pushing the hems of his duster aside, sits town on the one mooring bollard that isn't covered in gull-shit.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Anything can happen v.?.?

((Y'all remember Anything Can Happen? Probably not. I ain't seen many of the other former players 'round these parts recently. Anywho, I reckon the title 'splain's it fair well, but basically, this is a freeform GM-less RP. Feel free to do whatever y'all likes and to be as OP as much as y'all likes. Don't resist things gettin' wierd or shit, just go with it. Fer nostalgia's sake, I'll use the same openin' I used the first time I set one of these up))

You all find yourselves in the middle of a US ghost town. a tumbleweed rolls by. far away, you can hear airplanes. from one of the roofs, you can hear the chittering of the monkey of doom.

GO!

Hey, guys. So, last week my friend, who I haven't seen in a few months, texts me out of the blue, and says he's found a girl he'd like me to meet, and yesterday, after much thought and deliberation, I agreed to meet her. We've now set the date and time, and I'm frightened out of my wits, because, as some of you may know, I've never dated before, and in fact, never had the nerve to ask a girl to dance at a wedding, let alone ask her on a date. I was just hoping for some advice and encouragement from my internet family.

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Deep questions game
« on: November 20, 2013, 08:45:54 pm »
So, I just had an idea for a game; we ask each other deep questions, and answer the question above, much like the corrupt-a-wish game.

I'll lead in with this question: If you were told, without a shadow of a doubt that you were going to die in exactly 24 hours, without pain or suffering, would you be ready? And if not, would you be able to get ready in those twenty-four hours?

General Discussion / So, it's mustache month.
« on: November 02, 2013, 09:03:08 am »
How many of the beard-capable male population here will be growing an epic 'stache?

Doesn't matter if you're raising money or just doin' it for fun.

I shaved the evening of October 31, and am just waiting for my cheek-and-chin stubble to come up to a shaveable length. God my beard grows slow.

Also, what varieties do you like best? I favour a scotch-style ale.

By the way, I am so tired of all the IPAs clogging up the craft beer shelf at my local store. I've nothing against IPAs, I don't mind them, but I want to try something new, gorramit!

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Google Translate, Poet
« on: June 27, 2013, 08:08:45 pm »
So, someone on another forum I frequent came up with the idea of running a text through a bunch of different languages in Google Translate, and calling the result a poem. Here's my attempt:

Ode to Spot

[English --> Afrikaans --> Danish --> Dutch --> German --> Icelandic --> Norwegian --> Swedish --> English]

A question that started bumping about in my head today: What will the world/[your country]/society look like in 48 years?

Forum Games and Roleplaying / Narrative By Trope: The Reboot
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:05:41 pm »
So, I missed the fun I had creating Noirescent a year ago in Gatleos' game "Narrative By Trope", so I figure'd it would be a good time to try it again with a new story. Below, I've posted the rules from the old game.

The Falling Dark

The Falling Dark was a Scottish Live-Action television show, set after the end in Orkney. It ran for three seasons from 2005 to 2007, before it was cancelled.

A film adaptation is planned.

Needs Wiki Magic

This series also provides examples of:
Everything Trying To Kill You: All over the place. Basically, if there's a break from all the unresolved sexual tension, it's usually caused by this.

Exactly what it says on the tin. I want a change from Debian to something more interesting, and if anyone could give me some sales pitches on their favorites, it would be great. Just leave out Ubuntu. That one's boring to me now.

General Discussion / Interesting Linguistics Question
« on: April 18, 2012, 11:21:50 pm »
Like in the physics thought experiment in this thread, I have had an idea. Hopefully you guys can help my puzzle or theorise through it:

Say you had a selection of children, all together, none of whom have yet learned to speak, and, for purposes of this experiment have been completely excluded from all linguistic input, yet have food and sanitation etc. provided to them.

How (if at all) would they develop communication among each other? Would it be the closest approximation the world would have to cave-man speech? Or would they never learn to speak? These and other possibilities...
